  • Awesome consumer-grade saw
Size: Battery + Charger Pattern Name: Power
I have heated my home in Colorado exclusively with wood for 50 years, so I'm an experienced operator. I have owned the same professional Husky gas chainsaw for 27 years. More than half of my saw time is spent limbing the trees and cutting the branches into pieces small enough to lay down on the forest floor. So, as I got older, using the gas saw all the time was taxing. This saw is a perfect mate with the gas saw. Starts real easily, much quieter than the gas saw, doesn't lose power at altitude, and is much lighter. I would say it cuts about as fast as a 50 cc gas saw. It runs at full power until the battery is dead, which is longer than I need. Now the whining: The no-tool chain tightening "feature" common on consumer saws is some ad-wizard's idea to make a cost-cutting design seem like a good idea. Whenever you take the bar off (to clean the bar and flip it over), the tightening pin is in the cover and hidden from view. It takes some fiddling around to make sure the pin is correctly into the bar before you tighten the cover. Who goes out cutting without gas, oil, and a couple tools for field repairs? The included charger only puts out 1 amp, so a full recharge takes 6-7 hours. The pro saws (models ending in "XP") are really nice but cost 3 times as much! ... show more

  • Excellent Power, Great Tool. Batteries expensive.
Size: Battery + Charger Pattern Name: Power
I got this chainsaw to clear a rural plot of downed trees. I read reviews and this was the 2nd best one, next to the Stihl…but the Stihl was twice the price. This one was not cheap either! It turns out the cost is mostly the battery. The actual chainsaw is only about 1/4 of the total cost. More on that later… Power: If the chain is sharp, this has great torque to cut through thick logs. I did 2 foot round Douglas Fir logs with it(multiple cuts). Battery life: The test I read said it could do 208 “cookies” that were 6” around. I found I could work with it about 30-45 minutes of actual cutting on larger logs. I needed at least 2 batteries for a full day’s work…or at least until I tired myself out and stopped. Build Quality: It is built well, but I keep it in a case and service it between work-days(4 hours of work). Most of the exterior is plastic, including knobs and oil caps. Vibrations and wood chips drive into the mechanism, and loosen bolts. At the end of a long day I dropped it and it got all jammed up. I was done for the day as it wouldn’t work anymore. Back at my garage, I could take it apart and clean, vacuum out the wood chips, oil and sharpen the chain. It is easy to take apart and service. Once serviced, it was like new again. Rugged little saw, just keep it sharp and clean it down between uses and it will last. Gotchas: The batteries are insanely expensive!!! They are $310 each. The system has 2 types of batteries, which will work, but the smaller ones offer less time between charges. This takes the larger “BLi30”. The Edger takes “BLi22”. Nowhere on the Husqvarna website do they say this. I tried to be clever and buy the Edger for around $280 just for the extra battery (save $40 and get another tool) but the battery was the smaller “BLi22” which gives about 1/3 less battery time. I ended up buying another battery, another “BLi30”($300)…so now I have a total of 3 batteries. I can cut longer than my own stamina now(won’t run out of power), but I spent nearly $600 extra. So, consider that if you need to use this in off-grid or remote area. It might be easier to just use gas, if you’re on a budget. I think 2 batteries is enough, though. It was just a surprising cost that nearly doubles the overall cost. But, I didn’t want to be servicing a small gas engine and dealing with winter-izing it. The electric is nearly service-free and quiet. I have electric drills from 1960 that still work, so that’s nice. Plus it’s really quiet! [Edit] I’ve been using this weekly for about 2 months. All the above is still true. But, I have buggered the mechanism that sets chain tension. It’s easy to do. The entire mechanism is held in plastic. The electric motor has enough torque to rip the mechanism apart if the chain gets stuck or pinched. While getting pinched can be reduced by technique(I’ve gotten wiser), it still DOES happen. The screw that sets chain tension is set in a plastic channel with a stop. The torque generated by a pinched chain (pinched in a tree that settled during a cut) is enough to rip out the tension screw and deform the plastic channel. The deformed channel is now more likely to slip the tension screw. I basically have to take it apart about once an hour and fix it, now. The new part is $40 from Husqvarna, but it’s back ordered…so I have to wait 2 months! I’m limping along with this process: 1) Use it for an hour until it pinches or slips a chain.2) Take it apart, clean the chips out, re-set the tension screw back in it’s channel, re-Mount the bar, etc.3) Repeat. I wish Husqvarna made the tension screw inner assembly out of metal! It’s the Achilles Heel of an otherwise great saw. ... show more

  • Works as well as a gas powered chainsaw.
Size: Battery + Charger Pattern Name: Power
Excellent tool for cutting down small to medium size tree. Easy to use, handle and maintain. More power than you would expect from a battery operated chainsaw of that size. Battery life is more than I could hope for. Just make sure to clean it after use and check the oil levels. Well worth what I paid. 👍 ... show more

  • Great product
Size: Battery + Charger Pattern Name: Power
I like this saw. Light and powerful. I usually buy a cheap gas saw, use it for a few years then throw it away when it quits running. This time I wanted to try a more expensive saw and an electric one. This saw has been great. Every chain saw I ever had leaked bar oil when sitting, but this one has not. So far anyway. The only downfall I see is run time. I bought another battery, and now it goes long enough for me. I can cut off and on for 4 hours or so on 2 batteries. I wouldn't use an electric if you wanted to cut all day, like 8-10hrs. 18" seems like a good size too. It'll cut just about anything I come across. ... show more

  • Defective Design
Size: Battery + Charger Pattern Name: Power
Barely lasted a week: This product is very poorly designed as the design failed within a week. Clearing things next to my fence in the back yard, I noticed the chain kept popping off with the slightest nip of the fence. I noticed that the actual housing of the chain assembly was starting to warp. I took it off and noticed that the tensioner had fallen out of the support for it and actually jumped forward. I unscrewed the assembly from it's housing, you can see two screws on the right that you can remove to remove and replace it. I thought this was a one-off instance, oh perhaps the chain link fence was too much for it. But the problem in which I actually ended up returning it. This started happening with just wood, as seen in the photo, the plastic housing is unable to hold the tensioner in place for the blade, causing it to jump from the red box where it's supposed to be, outside of it to the right. Causing you to have to disassemble it and correct the issue before continuing in your task. But for each time this happens it warps the plastic that houses it, showing that it's only destined to fall apart. This is a major design flaw in this chainsaw, while its power has been wonderful while we have used it, and the battery does go for quite a while. This design flaw shows that it is a major concern and we must resort to finding an alternate replacement. ... show more
