I ended up building a MDF enclosure with sound foam to house the fan and you cant hear it when its on. It leaks from the seals around the fan. I used gorilla tape and it seemed to fix the issue. 2 years and it's still running good. It's pretty loud at full speed but at half speeds you barely notice it. It's decent. But for the price I would find something better.

This fan is not quiet - I had my t460s laptop speakers on and I plugged the fan in and it wasn't like I just couldn't make out what the voice was saying, I no longer could hear the speakers. It does NOT come with an eight foot cord - it comes with a five foot cord and WHAT THE WHAT!? A FLAT BRACKET to be mounted on a device that has circumference in its description. ... show more

I bought what was advertised as a new fan, however it was obviously used. Box was beaten up and had been clearly repackaged and retaped. Fan itself had numerous scratches all over it and a small dent. The fan itself, after I finally tried it out, rattled as though it was scratching against the inside of the housing. I have a 30 ft run of ducting with one of these at both ends. Works as well as a dust collector and 1/3 the d.b. volume (loudness factor). Hooked up to a split for a laser engraving unit and paint booth. Would be good for any quiet exhaust system

This would make an excellent piece of equipment.. if there was a way to hang them up in a tent. The holes on the brackets are too small for zip ties even. Sunlight Co. get with the times bro.

While I am pleased with the operation and quality of the fan, I am disappointed that two of my e-mails to the Hurricane folks have gone unanswered. My next purchase will be something else. Update: When asked on Amazon if the Hurricane 171 fan use a permanent-split capacitor motor or a capacitor-start induction motor (useful information to know if one desires to use a motor controller without damaging the motor and/or capacitor.), the Hydro Galaxy folks stated that "...the information was not available in the Specifications." The Specs came with the fan. I read them. The lack of information is why I asked my question. Is there a language barrier here? ... show more
