    • The instructions recommend 5-6" of metal pipe coming out of the unit!
First off, the unit works great. Had the water tested before and after, and the bacteria is gone. I have two issues with the unit. First, the in and out ports are not labeled. Are they reversible? I don't know. The instructions don't make it any clearer. One pictures shows the inlet nearest to the UV tube, the other shows it on the one further away. I resorted to looking at all the pictures here to figure it out. Which brings me to the second issue. Looking at all these pictures, most people are plumbing it directly with PEX, which was my plan. However in scouring the instructions to figure out the issue above, I found a note that the UV unit must be installed with 5" of metal pipe at the inlet and outlet, to prevent overheating and degrading the PEX, releasing chemicals into the water. I had to run out and get fittings and pipe in order to do that, and it really changed the whole layout, needing 10 extra inches of space. Both of these issues could be more clear in the instructions, and also in the product description. I haven't installed the unit yet. But I'm giving 5 stars based solely on customer service. I had several questions. I got detailed email responses within 24 hours. Product appears to be very solidly built. The flow works in either direction. Preferably, outlet should be piped with a brass fitting (3/4" x 3/4" brass elbow recommended), because exposure to UV light could degrade other pipe materials over a long time. The inlet side has a stainless-steel deflector, which blocks UV light. Therefore, any pipe material can work on inlet. ... show more

    • Great product. Do NOT connect directly to PEX
The filter itself is very sturdy, well made, and simple to install. I connected PEX directly to brass fittings that I screwed to the filter. Though it says this is fine I learned it is not. I could see UV light through the PEX and after about 2 weeks my water started to smell and taste like petroleum. The UV light was breaking down the PEX. Simple solution was to add a few inches of copper tubing with 90° elbows to keep the light from hitting the PEX. Now the water is back to normal. ... show more

I liked this sterilizer. While it worked, water was treated and kept sterile. It is "always on" regardless of flow or usage, burning extra hours on the bulb. My experience has been poor with regards to bulb longevity, lasting maybe 3000 hours before failing or glowing red hot.
