  • Smallest "Full-Size" Keyboard with Number Pad
Style: Wired Keyboard and Mouse Combo HP Wired ...
This is a standard keyboard by HP. 6-foot wire connects via normal USB, works instantly, no driver installation required. Compatible with Windows 7 and later (I don't have Vista or XP to test it with anymore, but I have all the others). It's very trim and complete, has a full 10-key number pad for easy access, all buttons conform to the US English keyboard format. I switched to this keyboard from a more complex one because it is trim and small, but I am missing my Function + Play/Rewind/Fast Forward for music as this does not have that function built in. The arrow keys are scrunched up next to the numbers, so instead of hitting "Right" I occasionally hit "Numpad 0," but that may be my typing because I transitioned from a "condensed key" gaming keyboard and this is a full-sized keyboard. Other than that, the keyboard is somewhat muted and sports a mild amount of liquid-proofing (membrane keys, not mechanical, and they are enclosed in plastic so the keys act like an umbrella over the membrane/internal area, reasonably water proof until you submerge). They are standard plastic, NO backlighting. Dimensions are: 17 5/16 in. wide x 5 7/8 in. deep x 1 5/16 in. tall (with feet extended, shorter with feet closed). VERY compact without compromising a full 10-key numpad, smooth performance. ... show more

  • A very satisfying keyboard to type on
Style: Wired Keyboard and Mouse Combo HP Wired ...
I like my keyboards to be inexpensive, with a loose and somewhat loud keystroke. By loose I mean that each keystroke doesn't take a lot of effort and doesn't produce strain on my fingers as I type. The reason I prefer a louder keyboard is so I can tell for sure whether or not I've pressed the keys I'm pressing as I'm typing This keyboard hits all of those for me. It's inexpensive, the keys are springy and loose and very satisfying to press down on, and they make enough of a clack for me to be able to tell that I completed a keystroke And the best thing is it's made by HP so when it comes time to replace the one I'm using now, it shouldn't be hard to find the same model or one similar to it when this one hits the end of its life I have tried several sub-$20 keyboards, one from Best Buy's home brand Insignia and another from Rosewill that I purchased from NewEgg. Both of those keyboards were great except that they sacrificed ease of typing in order to make the keyboard as close to silent as possible. This made them feel very mushy to type on and immediately caused finger strain as I typed on them and I ended up returning them for that reason. This keyboard doesn't have that mushy feel, instead they are very close to having a 'click' The only thing they could do to improve this model of keyboard is add some media keys for volume control and other basic functions, but this model is more of a traditional keyboard on purpose The build quality is excellent and I foresee this keyboard becoming one of my favorites that I've owned over the years ... show more

  • Tap, tap, tap...
Style: Wired Keyboard and Mouse Combo HP Wired ...
An item that can best be described with: "You get what you pay for." For under $10 (and being Prime eligible), though, it's not a bad price for something like this.. I had originally planned to purchase a specific Das Keyboard, but it was sold out/out of stock (and priced much higher on other sites). So, in came the need to have something cheap and quick as a temporary replacement for my new rig. I came across this one from HP and decided to give it a try. SHORT REVIEW: Pros: - under $10 - basic QWERTY layout - ~3ft attached cable - compatible with anything that can use a keyboard - 2 legs to tilt - NUM/CAPS/SCROLL LOCK buttons light up - number pad on the right - Windows key - decent sized Backspace key - good feedback once buttons are pressed Cons: - light, cheap feel - legs are flimsy - no volume buttons - no wifi button - keys are rather loud when typing - won't last long under a lot of use It also doesn't have a convenient 'fn' key nor does it have a back-light, but that should be expected at this price. LONG REVIEW: It comes in a lightweight standard box that's big enough to fit the keyboard in it -- nothing fancy, no little extras, just a small guide detailing about signing up for a warranty, the attached chord, and the keyboard itself. The USB chord attached to the keyboard is roughly 3ft', so it should be enough without having to move anything around to get it to reach to your preferred position and is convenient for PC users who aren't into long, messy chords that need to be hid, either (although wireless would be better for those who are into the aesthetics and prefer a very clean, minimal look to their desk area). The keyboard itself is very light, but with that comes a 'cheap' feel that has you thinking that if you accidentally knocked it off your desk or dropped it, it'd shatter with keys going everywhere. The wire attached doesn't feel too sturdy, either, so do be careful if you use a desk that has the pull-out section for the keyboard as to not tug on it too much or cause the keyboard to dangle over the edge (we've all had that moment with wired keyboards). It comes with two legs attached to the back that allows it to be elevated. However, they are not real study. If you are a fast typer and you put a lot of force into your keys (always that one person), the legs aren't going to last long. They're very flimsy. For gaming, it does okay. If you game several hours a day, every day, and you use the WASD keys more than any other keys, you'll probably have issues with them in time. Again, seems expected when you take the cheap route. Despite its claim for being a quiet keyboard, it still makes a decent amount of noise. Especially on a hard surface. However, it's far from being a loud racket that would have you slowly tapping each key as to not wake up your neighbors. There is no 'fn' key, no labeled buttons that allow you to turn the WiFi on/ff, adjust the brightness, fast forward, play, pause, or have a button that's specifically for switching screens. It also does not come with USB ports like I have seen some keyboards have. It's an inconvenience, but is more like a first world problem of mine with the item and not so much something that makes the keyboard awful. I will give it this, though: the 'Backspace' key is a good size and you do have light-up indicators to let you know when the CAPS/NUM/SCROLL LOCK is on (which my laptop didn't even have, despite having all the other fancy extras). It's just a basic keyboard with a standard QWERTY layout and numpad that gets the job done for the majority of your tasks. If you get this keyboard and you can make it last several years, then that's great. However, for a lot of people, it will probably have issues after several months of being under heavy use. It's a good choice if you are needing a replacement keyboard until you can get something more sturdy or just want to conveniently have a keyboard around for when you feel like using one (light use). You really can't go wrong with it for the price in either case. However, if you are looking to invest in a good keyboard that will last throughout the years, get a mechanical one. I am not saying this just because they're all the rage right now, but because they really are durable and worth having for reliability. They have physical switches underneath each key that accurately determines when a key has been pressed in comparison to a keyboard like this one (and most other keyboards) that have three plastic membranes and a rubber dome that are prone to breaking and falling apart, leaving you with stuck keys or none that function at all. I'm just saying ... don't buy this one and expect it to last forever, then leave a review and get mad because this one broke and fell apart after X amount of use. When it comes to stuff like this, you really do get what you pay for.... ... show more
