I liked the weight, it stayed out while working. The speed control works well. The picture is of my first 2 pieces. There were no instructions with this wheel, but I watched a few YouTube videos on mini wheel use and that was, very helpful

I am very happy with this little wheel. I did not expect a mini throwing wheel. There is no way it could be used for throwing, as other reviewers have discovered. I was hoping that I could use it for turning clay and it does that very well if I use a delicate touch with a small tool, removing only a small ribbon of material at a time. What I was most concerned about was that the shaft was straight and the head turned true and both of these were satisfied. It came with 3, not 2 heads, and a set of plastic fondant tools which I will not use with this wheel. I tested it with low-fire white clay that was soft enough to stick to the head but barely firm enough to trim. You cannot center the clay by pushing it into place but you can use tools to gently carve the spinning clay by removing material. It doesn't really make sense to talk about centering the clay because there isn't going to be any opening or pulling, but I quickly "centered" the clay by using my smallest trimming needle to remove material from the top and used the needle vertically to remove material from the sides. Then I was able to use tiny ribbon tools and sculpting tools to remove clay from the center and shape the outside. It did take quite a while to make a little pot but I expected that and I did enjoy the process. One drawback is that the speed knob is right next to the switch that turns the unit off and selects the rotation direction and I accidentally changed speeds more than once while turning the unit off. If the unit seems to not work, be advised that you have to select the rotation direction or nothing happens. I hope to find a motor that will fit in the box and turn this into a unit that can be used to throw little pots. Until then I will just keep carving little pots when I need one. ... show more

What an excellent, sturdy wheel! Perfect mini version of the real thing. Guard a little tricky to snap on, but given as gift and taking all my willpower not to get my own!

I really wanted this to work. If you apply any amount of pressure to the clay, the wheel slows down so it is impossible to use to throw clay. It is fine for painting stripes on it--but a banding wheel works just as well for that.

If you add any sort of pressure onto the wheel it just stops moving. So I couldn’t make anything if I wanted to.

you have to apply pressure to center a ball of clay - any pressure and the wheel stops - I don even get why they sell these things
