    • Must use their HP ink cartridges which have HP electronic circuitry. Must use their reorder program.
With this printer, you must download the HP software onto your phone or computer, and from your phone or computer screen you will access the printer menu. From your computer or phone you will indicate numbers of copies, page size, ink color, etc. On the printer itself is a status screen showing your selections. You are also able to connect this to your computer via a USB cable for making copies rather than using it wirelessly, if you choose, but you will provide your own cable; it does not come with one. Even when using the cable, you need to open the software on your computer to navigate. Everything runs through the software, including the ink cartridges! The ink cartridges contain HP electronic circuitry, and they alert HP when they are getting low. You must enroll in HP's instant ink program for receiving ink refills for this printer, for it is designed only to use HP's electronic circuitry ink cartridges. I looked on Amazon for refills for this HP DeskJet 4200e printer, and there are zero offers. This is a package deal. You buy this printer, you enroll in a monthly program for ink refills according to your estimated usage. You choose your plan: The first 3 months are free, then a monthly fee will be charged after that. If you average 10 copies a month, $1.49; 50 pages a month, $4.99, 100 pages a month, $6.99; 300 pages a month, $13.99; and 700 pages a month, $27.99. The offer must be redeemed within 7 days of printer setup. Full details of the program are at hpinstantink.com. They do not tell you how to obtain ink refills other than their instant ink program. They have buyers under a barrel because this printer is designed to use their circuitry cartridges only. You purchase this printer, you are obligated to enroll in a monthly fee program. I myself, in this house, don't use the printer but once in a while. I will go months and months without printing anything. Perhaps this instant ink program is fine in the long run with continual usage, but as it turns out, this printer is not for me! The downside of enrolling in monthly programs is, you wind-up paying more than you would if you could just purchase when needed. Also, if this printer dies, one has to go through the hassle of cancelling the program. Not for me! If you order this printer, be sure to hang onto all the paperwork which comes with it, for all the information on downloading software, the ink program, etc. are essential! ... show more

    • Nice 3 in 1 HP wireless network inkjet printer, scanner, and copier
This item shipped and arrived fast. This Hewlett Packard 3 in1 printer is an inexpensive wireless printer and prints really well for an inkjet printer, I have been using laser for many years. At set up you are required to set up an account and the auto replenishment of the ink cartridges for 3 months of free ink, but you can cancel it at any time. You can even cancel the ink subscription directly after set up to benefit the most of 3 free months. If you do refuse this HP reduces your free refills to, 2 months I found out in the fine policy print. The ink will auto replenish from HP when the cartridge gets to a certain level HP the printer notifies HP who in turn auto sends replacement(s) depending on which package you chose. This printer is very easy to set up on your wireless network and installing the included ink is a breeze. You will be up and running in no time. HP and most other manufactures have gone to chip coded ink cartridges to try and force customers to use their ink, but there are many ways around this. Search the web. The printer is compact, lightweight, and well made for a printer in this price range. After 1 or 2 test prints I was very surprised how well this thing prints in both color and black and white. Not only by, PC I have had no problems printing from android devices directly to this printer also. The scanner bed scans a nice clear image into PDF format. The printer has an LCD display on the top right side that is easily readable, shows status, and to navigate. I needed a wireless printer for my home office space and did not feel like shelling out more money for another color laser printer only to have to go upstairs to get the page(s), find them in queue still, and sometimes sort through other prints to find mine as that printer is shared by other household members. This printer fits my needs perfectly and 3 months of free factory ink, I'm in and especially for the great price range this printer costs. Overall this is a very nice printer in my opinion and I would recommend them to others if you are in the market for a cost effective ink jet with 3 in 1 capabilities. The cartridges will not stay in. Snap one in and the other one jumps out. I turn printer on and it will not print. I was hoping it would connect to wifi on my computer but can not get it to do it. Very disappointed in this printer.

The benefit is new cartridge has new printhead, so rarely we have a clogged printhead that need expensive repair. The con is, the cartridge is little bit expensive, because it is not simply ink, but include printhead and circuitry that protect the use of knockoff cartridge. Also the genuine cartridge ensure the color balance is always correct to HP standard. The cost of new genuine cartridge is $40 (HP 67 Black/Tricolor) or $51 for 2 pack. Not bad actually. As most of entry level printer now, in addition to printer, it also have Scanner and Copier function. It has 60 sheet input tray and 35 sheet auto document feeder. It has build in wifi to connect to computer or smartphone and also to connect to HP App for remote printing. I use this for simple less than 5 pages printing or proof print.
