I got these to help my mom when she visits. She is getting older and her balance is not quite what it was. Add to that that she had knee surgery last year that is still taking some getting used to and it all adds up to a bit of a fall hazard. The bathroom is typically where most falls occur, so we are being proactive in our approach and have already installed a permanent, vertical grab bar for just outside the shower and then I wanted a bit extra for the inside. We do have a plastic tub/shower insert that is one solid piece so there are no grout lines to go around. I tested this thing first with just me, and then secondly with my adult son - whom we have determined that if it can survive his use, then it is in fact indestructible. So far we are into week 2 with one of these attached to the shower wall and it is still up there. I'm still reserved in my expectations for indestructible, but I can definitely say without hesitation these things are solid, sturdy and will hold up to typical everyday use. I had no issues getting them to adhere and the suction is strong enough that it will not slide around once it is secure. It does say not to put your whole body weight on these, but if my mom is going to use it, I am going to make sure it will hold her weight- just in case. I was pulling, pushing and even hanging from (albeit briefly) these things and they did not budge. Having said all of that, these are not designed to be a permanent fixture and eventually the suction cups will wear if they are not released and reapplied every so often. I left the one in my bathroom for my son to try to destroy but I have another set that is kept in the 'un-suctioned' position so that I don't stretch them out for when mom comes to visit. Super impressed with these things and would definitely recommend to anyone that might need a little bit of stability in the bathroom.

Hotodeal Suction Grab Bars for Bathtubs and Showers – Balance Assisting, Glow In the Dark (11.6'', White-Night Glow – 2 Pack) I am on the far side of 70 and ordered these to provide additional balance in my tile shower. Unfortunately, my tiles are 4 1/4 inch and there is no way I can position these grab bars so that both suction cups are on tiles without overlapping grout lines. That's my bad, not the product's but I mention it as a lead-in to providing some measurements. The suction cups measure 3 3/4 inches in diameter uncompressed, 3 7/8 inch compressed. Uncompressed, there are 4 1/8 inches between suction cups, 4 inches compressed (see picture). In short, if one's intent is to mount these bars on anything but a smooth surface, one should ensure that the suction cups, at least, will be on smooth sections. Since I couldn't use these where intended, I mounted one each in my wife's shower/tub combo and one in the guest bathroom's shower/tub combo, both of which are smooth-walled. They work well and neither has lost suction since I mounted them. These are advertised to provide balance, not to support a lot of body weight. Having said that, I'm a big guy and put a fair amount of lateral pressure on them as well as pulling pretty hard on them in an effort to get them to fail ... and to my surprise, they didn't. I'm In my experience over many years, most, if not all, suction cups lose a bit of suction over time so I intend to reset these periodically whether needed or not. This model is capable of glowing in the dark. To do so requires that it be exposed to ultra violet light such as you get from the sun or fluorescent bulbs. Since I have no intention of dismounting these grab bars and exposing them to the sun each day, this seems like a pretty useless feature for anyone that doesn't have fluorescent lights where they mount the grab bars. I recommend this product.

It takes a bit to get these on right, but once you have them locked in place in a good spot they work pretty well. I got these to use in the shower to hang on to when I'm shaving my legs and another for my mom's shower for her to hold on to getting in and out of the shower. Make sure you clean the area well before applying, and wet the suction cups to get a better stick, otherwise they may slowly slide down on you when holding onto them. I've found that if you very slightly wet the suction cup it will stick much better and remain stuck fast to the shower. Once locked you could pull as hard as needed and they will not come undone until you unlock them. I've tried them in different spots, they will not stick to sheet rock but they will stick to finished wood well. So much so that I put one on the side of one of my cabinets as a handle and was able to pull it across the floor for easier moving. So, they are versatile. Would recommend.

I wanted to try these bars a few days before giving a review. So far they are holding up nicely. My husband installed for me but I was standing right there with him. He had them installed in less than two minutes, super easy. The only negative comment I have is I have seen them glow in the dark but that was a neutral selling point for me.
