this little gadget is creepy and amazing at the same time. I was not looking for a nanny cam but I am part of the Amazon Vines Voices program which allows me to try out items free of charge in exchange for an honest review of the item and this was offered to me. The device looks just like one of the little charger cubes that used to come with an iPhone except it is black. While the face of this looks black it is actually transparent to IR light and when you pop it off it reveals a tiny lens and you then have access to the micro SD XC card which is included. The SD card is a 64 GB card capable of recording video and is the same type I use in my action cameras. I think if you are looking for something that is live monitoring, this is not the device for you. Unless I'm missing something the user must retrieve the card to review the content. It comes with a card reader and you can install an app that helps to search the files. The settings allow the user to set for continuous recording or motion activate and it can loop record if you just let it run. There is connectivity in the sense of live monitoring on this but it is easy to use, just plug it in. Since this is powered by being plugged in, it will only work where there is a plug so the field of view is going to be very limited. The whole notion of this thing makes me wonder how often we may be watched and not know it. I got this to put in my hotel room when I travel to check up on the maid. It records in 1080 P which is amazing for a little device like this.

I like that this hidden camera is built into a USB charger, so it stays discreet while still being practical for a home or office setup. The fact that it records in 1080p Full HD and includes motion detection or continuous recording gives it a simple, useful feel without adding extra clutter. What stands out most to me is the included app and the way it organizes clips into a 24-hour timeline. That makes reviewing footage much less of a chore, especially when there are a lot of files to sort through. The AI that flags suspicious human activity also seems like a helpful time-saver. The included 64GB SD card, USB card reader, and setup card make it feel ready to go right out of the box. Really liked the idea of this and if it worked more than 10 minutes it would be great. Here are my findings. Observations - Arrives neatly packed with the "charging block" (camera) with SD card already inserted, a charge cord, a pin to help release the SD card, and minimal instructions (a business card with 5 Getting Started steps) - Followed the steps to do a test recording but when got to Step 4 "Open the front panel and remove the SD card" realized it wasn't clear how to do that. The pin didn't release the SD card when inserted in the hole next to the SD slot, as it does with any cell phone SD card - Used AI to find out more instructions. Thank goodness for AI. It explained that the pin is used as an extension of your fingernail; it doesn't go into any release hole, you carefully push the SD card in to release it. - Opened the website as directed on the card. You have to use Chrome; this little detail while no problem for me is glossed over in the Amazon ad. If you aren't using Chrome, this won't work. - Followed the website instructions to name the camera and view the 3 clips that it had recorded during our initial test. SHAZAM! The clips played clearly on my laptop with good resolution and an excellent timestamp on the video. Getting ready to write that 5 star review! - The only problem was that the video recording was upside down. Not a big deal, it just meant that the charger was plugged into the wall upside down. There are no real markings or instructions for this on the charger, so you just have to remember if the USB port should be at the top or bottom when you plug it into a wall. By the way, it actually works as a charger, which is fantastic because it is much more believable to have something plugged into it. - I did notice the charger plug was slightly warm/hot when I removed it from the wall. So are many regular charging bricks, so this isn't a big deal as long as it doesn't impact the lifespan of the unit. - The website app has many really cool and useful features regarding downloading and storing clips. What makes this a homerun idea is that there is no subscription fees to record and save recordings. The only ongoing cost would be to probably upgrade to a more heavy duty SD card with more storage since this will automatically write over itself if left on continuously. - Another great feature is that one can choose to record in continuous mode (it pauses like 5 minutes between recordings), or have it only record when motion is detected which will make the 64GB SD card last a lot longer between overwrites. So what happened to the 5 star review? - I carefully ejected the USB thumb drive reader from the laptop, removed the SD card, and returned it to the charger. I plugged it back into the wall to let it record some more. When I went to the app to view the videos this time it announced that there were no new videos. I repeated the process several more times, taking great care to make sure everything was correctly inserted. Each time the app said No New Recordings. Did I do something wrong? Did the SD card get unformatted? Is the website software wonky? I don't know. - I went to the 5 step instruction card and saw that it said [email protected]. I'll try emailing them to see if they have any ideas, but when you go to the lokxtech.com website you get "Opening soon Our current product batch has sold out. We are working hard to get the next manufacturing run completed and will reopen the store as soon as stock is ready. Enter your email below and we will notify you the moment we are back online." We will give that a try and see if they can help. If we can get this unit up and running again we'll return to update this review and (hopefully) get that rating back to 5 stars! Until then, this is just a very expensive charging brick.

This hidden camera might be useful if it could be placed in a position where it actually views the scene you need, but that might be challenging. Since it needs to be plugged into an AC outlet, that outlet would need to have a clear view of something. In many cases, it would be a foot or so off the floor and might be obstructed by any number of things. If you have a power strip mounted up higher perhaps, or connected with an extension cord it could be placed in a better position depending on what area you intend to cover. It could be in a position where it's a bit out of place and maybe attracts attention. But it's appearance alone would not likely give it away. Another negative is that it does not record audio but you decide if that's important for you.

This is a very nice hidden camera. The hidden camera is very easy to use. I like that the camera is disguised as a power supply charger. I like that I can just plug the camera into the outlet and will start recording. I like that the camera comes with a 64GB SD card. I like that the SD card is hidden behind the back of the power supply charger. Just remove the back cover and remove the SD from the camera. I like how easy to review the footage by inserting the SD card into the adapter. This is not a WiFi camera so you won’t be able to review footage online or your phone. You will need to manually insert the SD into your device to review the captured footage. This is a nice device to have if you have to protect your property. FYI the charger will not charge your device. Overall, this is a nice device to have and to take with you when you travel.

This spycam is hidden inside of a charging block. Even upon careful examination, the camera is very difficult to spot. I used a hidden camera detector using a red laser and spotting lens to see if the camera is visible, and of course it was. However, it was very difficult unless you really know what you are doing. As advertised, this does not appear on networks. There are three weaknesses that I can imagine. First, if someone has a hidden camera detector, they can spot the camera. Second, the camera is hidden behind a removable cover. In my opinion, it is hidden well enough that it wouldn't be discovered, unless it dropped and the front cover was compromised. Third, it does not charge very well. When I charge my phone, I get a message that says "the device may not be plugged in correctly." So someone who tries to use it, may become overly curious why their phone isn't charging correctly. Those weaknesses are fairly unlikely, but they exist. All footage is time and date stamped. Resolution is 1080, and has good quality. Video quality is sharp and has accurate coloratiom, but has some grain (more grain in darker areas). There is no audio or microphone. Although not striclty required, you may download Lokxcam software on your laptop. The software reminds you to ensure you are using this device legally. Note: using this device improperly could be a felony. The software analyzes your video for movement, human activity, etc. It then returns the exact time on the video to look at (so you don't have to watch the entire, hours-long video. Pros: Extremely difficult to detect. People will not suspect its true purpose, unless they are paranoid or have a security background. Comes with an SD card and USB card reader. No mic, no active night vision, no tcp/ip packets. Cons: I believe $50 is paying for the bragging rights (ironically) of having spy gear; The price is pretty stiff for the components it holds. Cannot film in total darkness. Verdict: In the security business, there is always a trade-off. For this device, you are hidden from networks, no IR signatures, and your anonymity is preserved (apart from fingerprints, there is nothing that ties you to the device), and it does not require batteries. On the otherhand, it must be plugged in to a working electrical outlet, it does well in low light but is not night vision in any sense, you must both plant and retrieve the device. I really like the device, but as a Vine Voice I recieved it free in exchange for evaluating it. I am super happy with how it functions, but if I had to pay $50, I probably wouldn't buy it unless I had a specific purpose for it. If you decide you might purchase this spycam, please make sure you check the laws before using it. One final note: When editing my video I noticed a few more details. First, the SD card that it comes with is fine for most circumstances, but it is not a high quality video card. My editing software had difficulty reviewing the slow SD card. Also the video format is avi. This is also not an issue, but the format needs to be converted if it is to be used by many video editors.
