  • NIce variable speed pump for the money
I find this pump to be great. I am using it on a 20X40 in ground pool. The pump works well with Hayward automation. It controls speeds and is very easy to wire and connect. I feel the pump is rather quiet on high speed and it is flowing just a bit over 70 GPM according to the flow gauge. At 30% which I run at night I still get nearly 30 GPM and you can barely hear it run. I did a self install and again found it to be very user friendly. It does save energy by reducing speed. I do not use time of use rates but I could see where this pump could really be a cost saver for those that do. I run it on 90% for 6 hrs and then drop back to 50% for 6 hrs and then 30% for 12hrs at night. The pump keeps my water crystal clear and with the cost savings of the lower speeds it just makes sense to run it 24-7. If you are looking for a pump and don't have a ton of water features. This is a sweet little pump. I am not saying it wont handle your water features... just make sure it meets your GPM requirements. Again seems to be a good solid pump. ... show more

  • Truly a bargain over a single speed pump
Pool pump is amazing. Truly a bargain all things considered. I installed on a in-ground pool on a 220V circuit. With the ability to run at a Variable speeds I can run my pool pump longer for less money allowing my pool to stay cleaner. I’ve checked the math and running my pump for 10 hours at 1700 RPM and two 2 hour cycles at 3000 rpm. (Enough to circulate all my water twice a day based on my feet of head and GPM flow) it should only cost around $40 a month. I live In the northeast where pool season is short and Eldctric cost are high. The Savings over a single speed pump were marginal based on my use and season. Where I really saved on the upfront is the built in programable timer. I was looking at an additional $300-$400 to install a timer on my pool circuit. For me all in would have been more money with a single speed and independent timer, vs footing the bill for a upgraded Pump. Also to have the features like the “speed” buttons I can vacuum or backwash my pool at full speed with our having to adjust the timed cycle that day. If I have a party and it’s super dirty I need turn over the water faster or add chemicals I can hit 1 button and forget about the rest. The preprogrammed time and speed will run and when it’s done it goes back to my normal cycle. This pump is also fairly quite compared to the previous Hayward single speed I had (when running under 2500 RPM). So for me it works great cause during the hours I’m in the pool my pump runs at 1700 RPM and I can hardly hear it even though my pump is positioned just a few feet from my deep end. Let’s talk Cons. My only negative with this pump is fan housing is less then just that. It’s a cover and allows to much derby into my fan housing. I’ve had on several occasions a leaf or grass get caught in it and make the poker card in the spoke sound. The problem is this wheel is spinning 1700 Rpm and I can dislodge it manually. Thankful every time this happens it corrects it self after a day or so. But I’m worried as to what that might be doing to the motor. If you can protect your pump from things line the leaf blower or lawn clippings you won’t have this issue. All and all this is a great pump for a great price and if your handy you can install a whip on it no problem. ... show more

  • I like the Maxflo pump!
My old Hayward 3/4 hp single speed pump died after 15 years of great service. My pool is plumbed with 1.5" pvc, and I was told by Hayward, that their Max FLO IS2303VSP2 variable speed pump (1.65 HP) was specifically DESIGNED for 1.5 inch plumbing and thus should be perfect for my pool. . The directions were quite good and the new pump was quite easy to install, and to program. I scheduled 3 different time periods at RPM speeds of 2000, 2500, 3250. I needed the highest RPM speed (3250) to run my Hayward Pool Cleaner (Poolvergnuegen). Under optimum conditions,, the pool cleaner's maximum RPM was approximately 8rpm. This was done with closing all suction valves excepting the side suction, which was connected to the pool cleaner. While the cleaner does a good job cleaning, it is relatively slow moving and can not come close to climbing walls. Very disappointing as that was the reason I bought the cleaner. Additionally, adjusting the suction side to partially include the drain or skimmer, renders the cleaner useless, as it completely stops. I would not buy this pump again. Instead, I'd look for a simpler 2-speed pump with better suction (HP?). I only need 2 speeds, one for the pool cleaner, the other for moving the water through the filter. I am told that 2 inch plumbing would make a big difference in pump performance. Unfortunately, I bought my house with the inground pool already installed. Bottom line, the pump works ok, but I'm not happy with the way it sucks. ** Update after 3 months: *Happy now will how the pump sucks* My Maxflo pump is now performing at a much higher level than before. I can see major improvement in the water flow in the pool, as well as the frisky nature of the pool cleaner; It now even climbs pool walls. The difference in the change is due to new filter(s). I normally switch out dirty cartridge with clean one every week. Obviously, they deteriorate over time.. In any event, NOT the pump's fault. I will be changing my overall rating to 4.5 stars. ... show more
