  • Works extremely well...
I recently faced a small heat deterioration in my manual solar heater due to my roof heater cooling off few degree with water flow speed. I decided to automate the system and thanks to this KIT I've been able to position the temperature sensors in specific spots of the system to overcome the issue. Now when the roof heater reaches the set temperature (as set in the controller), the vale opens and enable warm water to flow into the pool. Once the pool water reaches the set point, the solar loop closes. If the pool water drops below 5 degrees from the set point, the solar loop opens to warm the pool again. This cycle goes on and on until the pool reaches the desired temperature! It really works. I powered the controller using 240 VAC from my pool pump timer, now when the pump is ON, the solar controller is ON. This controller has a great feature that enables you to power it with 110/120VAC or 220/240VAC based on whats available to you. Lastly, here is a list of items form you to be aware, note that this is not part of the description but it should be: 1. The two temperature sensors comes with 6" of wire and fours wire nuts. You can extend the wire up tot 20' without impacting the resistor/thermo couple accuracy. There is plenty of misinformation on the internet telling you that 20' of wire will change the resistance of the sensor, please ignore it and extend the wire but do not exceed 20'. Another item is to use pipe insulation to cover the sensors top. Especially important if you are installing them inside the pipe. All you need to do is to insulate the top of the sensors with some foam and aluminum foil. This will enable the sensor to read the water temp as oppose to be influenced by the sun and give the controller erroneous temperature read outs. 2. As of 06/18/2018, the valve listed in the description as 2 way 1, 1/2. This is incorrect. The vale is a 3 way 2". My system is mostly 1, 1/2 so I purchase 3 adapters at the Home Depot ($1.25 each) that reduced the vale to a 3 way 1, 1/2 as I needed it to be. 3. If you want to re-use or disassemble the valve down the road, I suggest you to purchase few PVC adapters that allow you to screw and unscrew the valve as opposed to glue it to your PVC pipes. You can do that by acquiring few coupler with o-rings, you will glue the screw on adapter and then with some Teflon tape you will connect the vale to your system. I highly recommend this KIT if you want to automate your solar heater system! ... show more

  • have a good understanding of directions before starting
directions fairly simple to follow. Read them several times and understand them before starting if a DIY project, especially if you do not have experience in plumbing, pool/spa or electrical fields.

  • Highly recommended, but use an experienced installer.
We bought this at the same time as the Sunheater Solar Pool heating panels that we installed on our roof. Luckily we had a good friend who is a renovator and handy with plumbing and electrical. I wouldn't recommend the installation to someone who doesn't know much about either of these things. I'm fairly handy myself for home handyman stuff but don't know that I could have pulled this off on my own. We had to come up with a new redistribution plan for the piping out of our filter in the pool house, to feed one line up to the roof as well as a return line into the pool but we accomplished that part without too much problem. One mistake we made was thinking we could just put our two sensors right in the pool house in our return line from the roof (to measure warmed roof water) and one in the pool return line feeding into the pump (to measure the pool temperature). This set-up doesn't work if you want the valve to be fully automated. The sensor for the warm water must be up on the roof (or wherever your panels are) to know when the water is getting hot enough up there. So we had to switch that but now the panel can be left in the 'auto' setting full time. Also, the instructions that come with this valve are TERRIBLE. it took two of us quite a while how to figure out the right way to orient the valve for our particular set-up, and then how to open up the valve to set the stops for which way you need to open/block the right ports. Once we figured things out, it was all quite simple to accomplish, but the instructions were not detailed AT ALL in this regard, and thus we wasted a LOT of time for a set-up that should have been quite quick. Now that everything's hooked up correctly, we're thrilled with how well it's working. ... show more

  • Works as designed
I bought Hayward glc 2p solor controller about 6 months ago. Installed myself . It came with everything needed for installation, except tyraps. I Had two issues , it can operate selector water valve right to left or left to right for perfect fit. Easy select by moving plug inside . Second one was hard. Water valve needed to know it’s open and closed locations. That was hard. I saved hundreds by buying from Amazon and installing myself. New temp sensors are included and recommend changing out the old ones because more accurate if new. Also use Environmental wire twist and lock ties for tight secure install. ... show more

  • Works with Intex Crystal Clear Pump
This works as it should, I installed in early spring and the freeze protection works great. I was able to get this to work with the Intex crystal clear salt water system by paralleling the motor relay. (Caution this method may void the warranty on the Crystal Clear Pump)

  • Spending more time enjoying my warm pool!
Works perfectly! I feel like a free bird not having to worry about the pool solar panel during questionable weather. I wish I would have purchased this a long time ago! ***UPDATE: 2 YEARS LATER**** Still working perfectly, we live in Ohio and this thing is so good that our pool doubles as a hot tub. We have a 4 ft x 20 ft solar panel, a 12 ft x 24 ft x 4 ft pool, and no solar cover. We keep the winter cover on it year round(to prevent evaporation<one of the biggest causes of heat and chemical loss>). Last year we went out to check the pool towards the end of July and our pool was over 100 degrees F! While it is another thing to bring in when we close everything up for winter, it is well worth it. Hands down, the best money I have ever spent on our pool! No more worrying about turning the solar panel on or off! ... show more
