I put this together mostly by myself, but needed my husband's help near the end (the back end and front end slide together and get bolted, I'm not strong and just couldn't get it, it needed some muscle, lol). It took me about an hour and fifteen or so. The rower uses water resistance which is really cool. The drawback would be if you want to be able to easily change the resistance (the more water you add, the more resistance, although they provide a siphon so you can easily remove water if you were over zealous). They also provide a funnel for easy filling. We filled it to 3, right in the middle. The foot restraints have velcro for easy adjustment (see photo). Using the machine, the seat glides perfectly and smoothly on the track. The seat itself is sturdy and comfortable. The action on the row bar is very smooth and natural. It feels different compared to the gym rowing machine. For instance, in the gym, it feels like each row "keeps turning" longer, whereas this one feels like it stops rotating earlier. In the gym, I time my "next row" to coincide with when the row will naturally stop, so having a shorter rotation period makes me want to row faster. My rowing style is not to row very fast, but to try to do long, powerful strokes. This is not an issue per se, but it will take a little getting used to, as I will need to change how I time my rows. I feel that this rowing machine style is a lot smoother and more natural than the tension types in the gym - that is, it feels a lot more like rowing on the water. My initial impression is that I like it a lot better this way! When this machine arrived I had some apprehension about assembly. Those worries were completely unfounded. I found assembly to be simple and quick, taking only about 15 minutes from start to finish working alone. I expected much more difficulty but was pleasantly surprised. Once assembled, you use the supplied funnel to add water to the tank at the front to adjust the resistance, which took just a bit longer as I wanted to be careful not to spill anything while filling. Using the machine has a very smooth feel, though even at the highest water mark the resistance doesn't feel quite as high as a high-end home machine or something you would use at the gym. Still, good enough to get a great workout if you allow yourself some time. The digital display seems very straightforward, but you will want to familiarize yourself with the control. I had two concerns with the display, first the distance meter doesn't feel particularly accurate. While there is no truly accurate way to test this, I seem to be able to complete the same distances that I do in the gym in roughly two-thirds of the time. Second, I cannot imagine that the calorie counter could provide any more than a very simple estimate. I don't know that the machine has any way to account for resistance which could change the calories expended significantly. Overall, I find myself very pleased. This simple machine has allowed me to step up my cardio during the cold of winter from the comfort of my home theatre. Simply jump on the machine and get in an hour of rowing while streaming some entertainment. More accurate measurements and greater resistance would have knocked this into five-star territory for me but, as it stands, this is still a solid recommendation. ... show more

Edit: So I just dropped it from three stars down to two. Less than 24 hours and the control computer has died. At first I thought it was the batteries but it’s not. It won’t stay on for more than a few seconds. You can still use the machine but you don’t see your stats and the machine can’t share them to whatever app you want to use. Not a great start at all. I just got done assembling and testing this rowing machine and I'm conflicted to be honest with you. I'm giving it three stars because it does work, and because of the price, but I was really tempted to only give it two stars. Let me break it down into the following: Pros: It works and the price tag is very reasonable. That is where it ends. Cons: 1) The instructions are horrendous to say the least. Hardware and components are mislabeled in several different places. Some steps are incomplete in the manual because there are other things you need to do in order to complete that step, and those things are missing entirely. 2) The construction is poor. I have included two photos of two different welds. Most of the welds are equally as bad and sloppy. I have welded maybe a dozen times in my whole life and I can run better welds than these. I am concerned that they may fail at some point and I really hope I don't get hurt if they do. 3) The assembly is an absolute nightmare even aside from the instructions. They give you two allen wrenches because they use two different size bolts. That is annoying and could have been avoided. Most of it does not fit together correctly and I used a rubber mallet more than once. ... show more

Now using the Harrison HR-W8 Machine and it’s exactly what I wanted and expected. 45 minutes to set up, install, and to get Rowing. Seat is well cushion and glides perfect. Straps for feet are wide and fast to secure. Handle bars are perfect width. Having doubles rails feels very secure and I have No problem going fast and all out. easy for storage against the wall with accessible wheels. Kinoapp is awesome still learning and easy to set up. Only been using the app with my phone but Can’t wait to mirror it on my screen Tv. Really feel the water resistance and has a great recoil on return. Only problem I have with the rower is the monitor. I don’t feel it’s a 100 percent accurate on distance but from the price comparison from others Rowers I’m happy with my order and I’ll just add a couple of extra pulls to make up the difference. Very happy to add this to my fitness journey and will be putting this rower to work. ... show more
