  • Amazing Time saver
Size: Manual
I must say first off the people that are giving this product bad reviews I don't think are properly trying trial and error. As I do not use the guides because they kind of get it in the way I just use my eyes and hold the copper as it's feeding in and have absolutely no problem with it cutting as long as I keep it in the middle there is no product that for this price that's just going to feed perfectly but if you go slow and watch what you're doing this is absolutely amazing product wish it would have had a 20 years ago saves a pile of money as when you burn copper you burn weight or did big and I did small wire absolutely amazing just a little common sense and pay a little bit attention and it works wonders. ... show more

  • Good Product for the Cost
Size: Manual
I bought this product based on price and did not have high expectations. I thought that I would have to do a lot of customizing to get it to work the way I wanted it to (knurling the drive wheels, sharpening the cutter, etc). I was pleasantly surprised to find that the drive wheels were not as they appeared in the advertisement and that they were already serrated to grip the wire better (please see the photo I attached). It seems to work very well with larger stranded cable sizes (8 AWG and bigger) and with a little care, I can use it on smaller stranded wires with good results. It helps to keep a moderate tension on the wire as it feeds into the stripper because this keeps the wire centered in the notch that the drive wheels make. The only issue that I have found so far is that the cutter wheel is not perfectly centered in the drive wheel notch and I can't seem to get the Allen screws to loosen so I can adjust it. I have not used this on solid wire because I have a different stripper that works great on that but does not work on braided wire at all. I have also found that running the stripper with the hand crank works much better than trying to drive the stripper with a drill - slower is better and avoids a lot of frustration. ... show more

  • It gets the job done, but ...
Size: Manual
I've been using this for a few years now. Two of them the machine has been exposed to the weather on a frequent basis. The durability is excellent. It works great on Romax type wire. If you get much bigger or smaller it struggles. My primary complaint is that wire jumps out of the track any time there's the slightest kink in the wire. Attaching a drill works, but it's not especially elegant.. . There might be an adapter I long ago lost, but to get it to work I had to use a hex bit to turn the stripper. Which is a bit awkward, but it works. The 4 star is mostly for durability. Given the miles of wire I've stripped and the weather extremes this stripper has endured I had to give it a good rating. ... show more

  • I wouldn't recommend it
Size: Manual
I have at least 100 lbs of scrap wire and only got through 20lbs before the bolt snapped inside of the unit. I cannot use it anymore. It comes with a hand crank and drill attachment but the bolt broke inside where it would connect. Its now useless after 1 day. I stripped the wire carefully and slowly because in reality this was a cheap buy so I figured the quality wasn't the best. The blade inside is attached to a bearing that moves so after a little while it no longer cuts in the center of the insulation and the wore constantly slips Overall it did an adequate job. I guess if you have a pound or two of wire it might work but for recycling purposes its no good ... show more

  • Learning curve when I used it.
Size: Manual
No instructions with unit but it did come with a drill attachment which I was not expecting. I learned a few things by trial and error. 1) You need to have feed hole lower than vee roller. 2) For multi strand wire you need to put tension on infeed side, on single strand wire you need to pull wire down on exit side. 3) If slitter blade doesn't stay in center of wire you have the blade too low. And if you get too many cut stands the blade is too low. 4) 20 gauge wire is the smallest you can clean insulation from. Smaller wire is too hard too manage and a time waster. 5) The bigger the wire gauge the easier it is to strip and single strand wire is the easiest. 6) Old wire with stiff and/or brittle insulation is harder to strip. 7) 8 foot lengths of wire are the easiest to manage, longer get tangled and shorter is more time consuming. 8) Don't feed the wire too fast on soft insulation or the blade doesn't cut as well. 9) You can do lamp cords or speaker wires by separating the wires first. 10) Wear leather gloves so you don't get wire slivers from multi strand wire. ... show more

  • Its OK
Size: Manual
Its not really as easy to use as some say these are. There is definitely a learning curve with it. It also really wont strip wire 14 AWG or less. I had the wire wrap around the bottom rollers a few times now. Also when getting out of the box, before using, check the alignment of the bottom rollers and the slitting blade. I had to adjust mine. All in all, for the price and the amount of wire I currently have, its probably worth it, although I am not including the aggravation of having to cut the wire into 2 foot lengths (I would not run longer than that) and having to take apart the rollers to get wire unstuck. I originally bought this so my soon to be 9 yr old son could have a fun project to work on......he can not use this and he is mechanically inclined already. ... show more

  • It works!
Size: Manual
For the price point, this thing works! It has a slight learning curve as to setup and usage to strip wire but after a few goes with it, it works great. I have stripped wire from 14 guage to 1/0 fine wire and battery cable. Handle works good and comes with adapter for a battery or corded drill to do the turning. If you have been on the fence about which one of these contraptions does the job then this one is a good choice. Pretty sturdy and has mounting holes to screw it down to a work surface. ... show more

  • #12 wire is gonna be a problem
Size: Manual
We wanted to have a way to more easily strip our scrap #12 wire after our jobs, so I snagged this beauty here and we found out immediately that it simply just won't do #12. The cutting wheel inside of the device wobbles back and forth, and no amount of tightening the screws has fixed that. We are uncertain what else to do to make it work for the size we use the most of, but it does handle larger wires, like #4 or 1/0, just fine. ... show more
