I must have a dozen wire strippers. The manual kind like these, the automatic kind that clamp onto the wire and then automatically strip no matter the gauge as well as some fancy German-made ones that you can set the strip length on. But none of the them can strip 22-28 gauge wire and I had a project using that hair-thin wire. So I had to buy these. Took a chance. They work well, no complaints. I bought this stripper to strip insulation off 22ga wire. It works perfectly and pulls off the insulation without taking any of the fine stranded wires with it.

DOWELL 22-30 AWG Wire Stripping Tool Wire Stripper Cutter Pliers Tool Multi-Function Hand Tool for Electrician 2-Piece I've been taking things apart and putting them back together for as long as I can remember, and believe me that's quite a few years. Sometimes they even work when I put them back together! One of the things I'm not very good at is wiring. But, I have come to learn that it is important to have a good pair of wire stripping tools. There's a big difference between stripping a wire with a tool that's made for that and cut it with a pocket knife. The Dowell stripping pliers have been working just fine for me, and having two strippers for this price is a definite plus. These will strip the smallest wires, even speaker wires which for me have been a difficulty in the past. I like that it's got the little curved built-in crimper on the edge and the plier grip, that's coming in handy more than once. The handles are not exactly the most comfortable, as they're made from a harder plastic, the yellow part, and a softer rubber overlay, the black part. All in all, these are a decent set of pliers for a very good price. If you just occasionally do electric work or you're doing it every day, I think you could do a good job with these. ... show more

I worked as a mechanic for 20 years and an electronics Tech for 15 years. During that time, I used a pair of fine wire strippers (the small wire sizes) frequently. The common all-in-one wire cutter, stripper, crimper and small bolt cutters just isn't near as good for stripping wires. They usually have the crimpers up front (for the available torque reason) and the stripper in the back. When I seen these listed for the price of 2 for $10.99 it was just too hard to pass up. I'm sure glad now that I got them. Did I really need two? For the price, I now have one in the workshop and one in the garage. These wire strippers are even better made than the pair I used back in the day. The handles are well designed and fit the hand well. To the reviewers that complain they are hard plastic, I say get over it. Yes the pair I had in my tool box had rubbery handles. If that's important, then these aren't for you. The lock is perfectly placed for a right-handed person to push with their thumb. The nose is serrated and in a pinch can be used to attach butt and bullet connectors. This isn't the first tool made by Dowell that I've bought and most likely won't be the last. Their tools are well made and reasonably priced to compete. I like these strippers better than the ones I used so long ago. If you need a pair of smaller wire strippers (<18 gauge), give these a try. ... show more

    • Nice Bargain Wire Strippers - NOTE - For Very Small Gauge Wire
The DOWELL 22-30 AWG Wire Stripper (2 pack) is a pretty decent bargain tool. Handles are hard plastic. Essentially every rubber-handled wire stripper costs at least twice what the these do. Good hard metal teeth with 5 stripping holes for very small gauge wire (22, 24, 26, 28 & 30). Considering normal house gauge is 12 & 14, you risk stripping out part of the wire if you use these strippers if you are not careful. Price is $5.50 per plyers ($10.99 total). Same company sells one plyers for $6.50 and I see other similar plyers for sale on Amazon for the same price all the way up to $12. Plyers were shipped with dirty metal noses (not oil - grime) so I dropped one star from the review for their lack of quality control. Plyer handles are clean - just the metal. ... show more
