This is an excellent wire stripper. I use it for 18 to 24 AWG wires and so far it has held up well. It is easy to adjust for these smaller wire gauges and gives excellent results without ripping off any strands of wire. The wire cutter part works OK too, but of course due to its location, it's not as easy to use as a dedicated wire cutter tool, but it will still cut your thinner wires without any difficulties. It is of excellent quality and it has held up well (so far).

They’re my favorite automatice wire strippers. They strip the sheathing from multi strand wire, then they’ll strip the wires themselves. I do marine electrical, they’re the first ones I go for, and I’m disappointed if I have to use any others or if I’m in an area where I can’t use these. I’ve tried the harbor freight sets, the Milwaukee sets, and these are the best.

I always thought these were kinda gimmicky. I had a ancient one superficially similar to this (individual die slots, same kind of action) and it never worked great, but several review videos persuaded me to try this one. Wow. From being able to gang-strip several wires at once and not nick the conductors to a little trick to peel a second spot on a wire to let me solder on a tap wire (always struggled with that before) and not having to think about wire size and carefully lay the wire into the appropriate groove, this seems like it's almost perfect. Quick, simple and and repetitive (with the strip gage/stop) to strip cords and individual wires. (It might struggle with the very short conductors needed for attaching cord plugs on heavy cords. but the only tool I ever found that did this well was an ancient T&B stripper that had the end of the pliers bent over at 90 degrees--sadly i broke it after about 30 years doing something dumb and can't find anything like it today.) This is thoughtfully designed to fit the hand (not open so wide it's hard to hold and operate), with comfortable plastic grips--smooth, nicely textured and some grooves. It has a large opening for wires/cables, and aggressive jaws to hold the jacket. I have no idea if the two cutting blades will wear (or really, how fast) or need to be replaced at some point. For the moment it's delivering nice clean cuts. (Same uncertainty about the enclosed mechanism that seems to control the cycle--if this wears will the thing degrade or stop working altogether? No idea. Hope not. This is trying to be my new favorite tool (but I have a short attention span.) The Cutter works but it's now one of a dozen so probably not going to get used a lot. The crimper is a little confusing but might be ok once i figure it out. Until then I have a couple of others that seem to be working fine. (located on the inside of the handles may be a bad idea for wire/terminal placement during crimping and for leverage but I haven't tested this function yet)

This stripper does a good job only on certain types of electrical wires. It nicely and easily strips stranded wire both large and small gauge and sheathed cables like Romex. It absolutely does not strip individual solid wires, say 14 and 12 gauge, if they are covered in a thin plastic coating (which most are). Try it, and you’ll be scratching your head and feeling very frustrated. Imagine you strip some 12 gauge Romex and then want to attach the exposed individual wires to a new receptacle. You will have to use a second stripper to expose the ends of the black and white wires. The Irwin stripper simply will not work on the black and white tips because the teeth will continually slip as they try to penetrate that plastic coating. You typically end up with a mangled, unusable mess. So, your new tool will only get you 50 percent towards the finish line. You’ll need a second stripper no doubt. Your call on this tool. The tool itself seems well made and durable. It seems fairly priced as well. I’m keeping it, but be aware that it’s only going to do 50 percent of what you need it to do much of the time. One final thing: Keep your thumb away from the body of the tool as you squeeze! It’s very easy to pinch your thumb in the crimping section of the tool if you have sizable hands. I drew blood two of the first four times I used the tool. Who knows? Maybe I’m just a klutz. Re-review: 6-months later and I am happier with this tool. It seems to be stripping coated-with-plastic 14 and 12 gauge wire much better. It strips wire much better if you press down a little (with your left hand index finger) on the top of left side gripping head. Much better and more consistent performance. Upped my rating to four stars.

I am not a electrician, so I wasn't aware of these strippers before hand. I am one of those people who tried to use one of those cheap wire stripping tools you get in many cheap electrical kits, and can find at many hardware stores. I was always having issues stripping wire with those, because they are designed so pooorly. And even if I got the insulation removed off the wire, the stripper would always cut into the individual strands of wire inside the insulation. And the crimper portion of the tool was pretty poor as well, and sometimes I couldn't get terminal connectors crimped down enough. These are like the Cadillac of wire strippers! Literally, all I got to do is put the wire into the stripper, and then squeese the handle, and instantaneously it has stripped the wire perfectly everytime. These strippers are self adjusting when it comes to the gauge size of the wire, which is anywhere between 22 gauge, to 10 gauge of wire. However, you can adjust how much of the insulation you want removed off of the wire. Just for the strippers alone, these are worth the money, but as a plus, you also get a crimper and cutting too. The crimper works great, I feel like the extra leverage I get with the 8" handle, really helps with that. The built in cutter works fine as well, although I usually like to use a pair of separate wire cutters when cutting wire. I have also seen a video on Youtube, of this tool being able to strip the external shielding off of AC wiring, and then they could strip the insulation off of the individual wires after that, very impressive tool. I love it, and I highly recommend it!

I bought this in 2018. I've stripped at least 5000 wires from 12-22ga with it. I've stripped both the outer case and inner insulation on 16ga 2 conductor in-wall speaker wire 100's of times. It's bulletproof. I've had a few versions of this over the years. Most work well. This works every time. My only complaint is that the adjustment screw only actually adjusts for a small part of the turn. Though that may just be wear. They do require an occasional squirt of WD40 or a few drops of oil. Also, short pieces of insulation can fall into the mechanism causing it to not strip. Maybe why some people have had inconsistent results.
