  • Great tool that saves time
Size: 8" (200mm) Style: Wire Stripper Only
This stripper took some getting used to but once I did it’s become one of the most used tools I have. The key is that the left side of the wire (when looking at the stripper) has to be held fixed in place. So if you’re stripping a wire you’re just holding in your hand then also hold that left side firm while using the tool. Once I got the hang of it I’ve used it on everything from romex to 28awg silicone cased wires. It’s very capable to do multiple wires at once like lamp wire or anything else with individual conductors. The cutter below the hinge is very sharp and works well also. ... show more

  • Exceptional Performance with the IRWIN VISE-GRIP Wire Stripper!
Size: 8" (200mm) Style: Wire Stripper Only
The IRWIN VISE-GRIP Wire Stripper is an outstanding tool that makes handling electrical work a breeze. I recently added this to my toolkit, and it has quickly become an essential part of my gear. The build quality of the wire stripper is top-notch. It feels sturdy and well-constructed, with a comfortable grip that makes it easy to use for extended periods. The precision-ground stripping jaws are incredibly effective, allowing for clean and accurate stripping of various wire gauges without nicking or damaging the conductor. One of the features I appreciate most is the adjustable stopper, which ensures consistent stripping length and improves efficiency. The built-in wire cutter is sharp and precise, making it easy to trim wires neatly. The ergonomic design of the handles provides excellent leverage and reduces hand fatigue, which is especially useful during long projects. The tool also has a built-in spring-loaded mechanism that makes it easy to use with minimal effort. Overall, the IRWIN VISE-GRIP Wire Stripper offers exceptional performance, durability, and ease of use. It’s a reliable tool for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. Highly recommended for anyone needing a high-quality wire stripper that delivers consistent and precise results! ... show more

  • 2 years later, still absolutely love them (plus info about shortcomings)
Size: 8" (200mm) Style: Wire Stripper Only
These strippers have been in regular use now for 2 years, and they're still my go-to when I have to do a lot of wire stripping. They are a tremendous time (and effort) saver and are too convenient to not have in the toolbox. However, I will say that there are certain types of wire insulation that simply do not work well. I strip a very wide variety of wire types and gauges: typical solid-core house wiring, stranded automotive wires in a variety of gauges, high-voltage silicone leads, small wires used for PCB interconnections, and more. I would estimate that it works well for 90% of these wires. There's one insulation type in particularly that tends to cause problems--the very hard, stiff, plasticky, slippery insulation that occasionally comes on inexpensive rolls of individual wire. If most of the wire you work with meets that description (you'll know if it does), these would probably not be a good choice for you. Unless you exclusively work primarily with that, these are fantastic. Most users will, however, still want a good set of traditional strippers on hand for the rare occasion when wires are very short and cannot be reached with such a bulky set of strippers, or when the aforementioned type of insulation is found. (For those reviewers who have not had any luck with them on any types of wires, I would highly recommend they consider exchanging their pair, for they had to have been defective from the factory.) ... show more

  • Good quality, easy to use wire strippers/cutters/ crimppers
Size: 8" (200mm) Style: Wire Stripper Only
This tool is well made and gets the job done. If you're thinking about purchasing it pull the trigger. You'll be glad you did. It strips and cuts wires of varing thicknesses. Irwin is a solid solid brand for all you pros out there.

  • Pretty impressed!
Size: 8" (200mm) Style: Wire Stripper Only
I always thought these were kinda gimmicky. I had a ancient one superficially similar to this (individual die slots, same kind of action) and it never worked great, but several review videos persuaded me to try this one. Wow. From being able to gang-strip several wires at once and not nick the conductors to a little trick to peel a second spot on a wire to let me solder on a tap wire (always struggled with that before) and not having to think about wire size and carefully lay the wire into the appropriate groove, this seems like it's almost perfect. Quick, simple and and repetitive (with the strip gage/stop) to strip cords and individual wires. (It might struggle with the very short conductors needed for attaching cord plugs on heavy cords. but the only tool I ever found that did this well was an ancient T&B stripper that had the end of the pliers bent over at 90 degrees--sadly i broke it after about 30 years doing something dumb and can't find anything like it today.) This is thoughtfully designed to fit the hand (not open so wide it's hard to hold and operate), with comfortable plastic grips--smooth, nicely textured and some grooves. It has a large opening for wires/cables, and aggressive jaws to hold the jacket. I have no idea if the two cutting blades will wear (or really, how fast) or need to be replaced at some point. For the moment it's delivering nice clean cuts. (Same uncertainty about the enclosed mechanism that seems to control the cycle--if this wears will the thing degrade or stop working altogether? No idea. Hope not. This is trying to be my new favorite tool (but I have a short attention span.) The Cutter works but it's now one of a dozen so probably not going to get used a lot. The crimper is a little confusing but might be ok once i figure it out. Until then I have a couple of others that seem to be working fine. (located on the inside of the handles may be a bad idea for wire/terminal placement during crimping and for leverage but I haven't tested this function yet) ... show more
