I've used this Fellowes Powershred 12C15 12-sheet crosscut paper shredder for several months, and it has worked very well for home use in shredding confidential papers and expired credit or debit cards. Very easy set up too. I have not inserted up to 12 sheets of paper per pass, but only insert up to 4 sheets at a time. It has casters for easy maneuvering, safety lock on/off switch, reverse shred switch, front window to view when the bin is full, and an easy pull-out bin for dumping paper contents. The shredder has not overheated, but does have an overheat LED indicator as well as an LED SafeSense indicator and safety lock feature. I oiled it with canola oil as recommended by the manufacturer each time I emptied a full bin. That said, I did encounter some difficulty once after oiling the shredder, and I must have oiled it too much because the next time I used it, shredded paper got stuck in the grinding teeth. However, after removing the oily, shredded paper, it worked perfectly fine again. When used as manufacturer recommends, this shredder is definitely worth buying. ... show more

We bought the Fellowes Powershred 12C15 12-Sheet Crosscut Paper Shredder for Office and Home with Safety Lock, Black 4014401 The shredder came well packed. It was extremely easy to assemble in under ten minutes. It works well, does not seem to bog down and for the price we are very happy with this purchase. It is not overly loud, it rolls easily, what more can you ask for near $100 that is dependable. We looked at a few dozen shredders, this one is as presented. We also bought oil for the occasional lubing of the gears and only wish we had bought the bags sold separately for shredder rubbish, they now seem logical. We are currently using slightly large kitchen trash bags (for the short term) which makes cleanup of paper all the easier, and we will buy shredder bags next. ... show more

    • Good verstaile shredder for home or small office

When a relative died, we had a room full of stored receipts, invoices, medical and financial records, bank statements, etc; to dispose of. We thought of taking the whole lot and just trashing it, but we had a nagging feeling that it would still be wise to shred it. We bought this Fellowes Powershred 12C15, since the combination of price and features seemed best for our needs. We had two of us hand feeding small stacks of up to (roughly) 10~12 sheets each into the shredder slot, with no interruption to the feed of paper as we had multiple hands at the ready with more paper. We would feed these maximum thickness paper 'stacks' for about one hour before taking a break. So, the shredder was running at capacity for an hour, 100% duty cycle. We had a handful of stalls, but the machine never shut down due to overuse of high temperature, etc. Most of the paper had staples, some had paper clips, and the machine went through those like butter. It is also supposed to be able to shred optical media such as CD's, DVDs and Blu Ray disks, we we did not try this. We were pleasantly surprised by the very low noise level of this shredder, even running at full capacity. After many hours of this heavy use, we had the task complete, and the machine showed no signed of wear or fatigue. Unlike many similar shredders, in which the user must light the shredder head off of the plastic bin (which holds the shreddings). on this model, the bin is actually a removable drawer which easily pulls out from the base of the unit for easy emptying. It is a good side to fit a standard kitchen garbage bag over it and up-end it so the shredding fall into the bag for disposal. This shredder assembly includes four swiveling casters which optionally snap into the bottom to allow it to, for example, be rolled under a desk or table when not in use. ... show more

What I most like about this is that the slot for items to be shredded is wide making it easy to enter multiple pages worth and the motor is powerful enough to not overheat or get stuck with such. It's also small, easy to move and has a nifty pull out bin for dumping the shredded paper. But after having many less powerful shredders that shut off after only 20 minutes, it's nice to have one I can shred whatever I want with for as long as I want to! ... show more

I bought the Fellows shredder because it always meant very good quality at a reasonable price. I took this one out of the box and set it up, NOTHING! I took the top off and set it back on top of the basket still nothing no power. I had to call tech support for a shredder which to be honest I was embarrassed! It appears because the basket is so flimsy you literally have to place the shred head on the basket and insert these tabs so the shredder will work! I did realize how cheap the basket was but because shredders prices are through the roof I am keeping it. There’s a on/off switch on the back of the shredder head. To me it’s quite obvious vendors DO NOT READ THEIR REVIEWS! The shredder works week just a crappy design basket as I mentioned earlier. ... show more

The first one I got didn't work, and was promptly replaced by the factory when I contacted them- very easy customer service. I did have to ship the non functional one back (for free) so don't toss the box until you are sure it works. It isn't super robust in terms of how it's made but it does the job and is much more quiet than my heavier duty old one (same brand different model) that finally died. ... show more

    • Shreds like a champ!

Lets face it shredders are not quiet. Even the most expensive are a little noisy. This one is about average. It won't drown out a conversation, but it will shred like the most expensive ones do. It also does not overheat even using for a hour practically nonstop. A big tip to keep your shredder operating longer and at peak performance- Check after about 50-100 sheets to see it is not clogged by reversing then going forward again. I like to hold the nest page just far enough to trigger the drive and that clears out anything still in the teeth. Arso after about 500 sheets feed a lubrication sheet thru. Doing these two things and you won't need to buy a new shredder again! ... show more
