  • Worth the money so far
Material Type: LA320919
The same tool on the Ali site was 16 and shipping would take two weeks. I saw it here for ten. It's a useful tool with a lot of gripping power and good leverage for cutting. Surprisingly useful tool Feels good on the hand. Cuts wire cleanly. Strips cleanly. I don't know about 9 functions but it has many functions. It is packed in grease. I sprayed it with Dupont silicone lubricant with Teflon. The metal is good quality the finish is not 10/10 but good enough. It's a nice design. The needle nose is slimmer than my other needle nose pliers that are much smaller than this one. ... show more

  • One feature was, "ehh," but considering all its features, that's pretty good forwire strippers
Material Type: LA320919
I bought these wire strippers with crimping and cable-cutting capabilities, and overall I'm content, but I can't say that I'm overly excited about owning them. Here's why: 1. The holes for stripping wires are actually Metric in size, so they can be up to 0.1mm smaller than the AWG equivalent wire you are attempting to strip. In fact, the 14 AWG hole is 0.1mm smaller than the standard 14 AWG solid conductor Romex I tried to strip, which made stripping difficult. The cutting edge not only bit through the insulation around the conductor, but it also bit into the copper conductor, too, leaving a nice nick below the surface of the conductor. The strippers will get stuck on the nick when trying to pull the insulation away from the conductor, unless you relax your grip on the handles enough to allow the edges to ride back up and onto the surface of the conductor. This is actually a pretty common issue with most wire strippers manufactured in China, and that's because they rely upon the Metric System for manufacturing. When a stripper is brand new, I've found that cutting into the insulation using the 14 AWG hole, and then using the 12 AWG hole, or the plier tips to pull off the insulation works with difficult insulation. Eventually you get used to relaxing your grip, but the biggest issue comes from stripping stranded AWG sized wiring. Properly sized 16 AWG is stripped using the 14 AWG hole, since stranded requires a larger diameter to reach the equivalent cross-sectional area of a solid conductor. If the strands are 0.1mm in diameter, you inevitably cut off a strand, which is no big deal. Strand size, number of strands, gauge hole, how the conductors are twisted, and being Metric means you may lose a few strands while stripping. When you're stripping the "rope-braided" style of conductor, like 12 or 10 AWG OFC or CCA speaker wire, you lose quite a few strands. Again, this is quite common, but still very annoying because the bits stick to your clothing like fiberglass insulation. 2. Overall the build is somewhat hefty, and similar to linesman pliers. They seem to be cast using moulds to make the two sides, and then cut, ground, and slightly polished to make the features functional. There's nothing wrong with this type of manufacturing process. However, when you initially begin to use tools like this, another thig quite common is that they will bind when opening, and be difficult to close if pried fully open. You have to take the price into consideration, and accept that there will be a required break-in period to wear down all the tiny imperfections. Wire strippers that start out to tight, usually don't begin to develop a gap between the two sides until long down the road, which will turn out to be a good thing, if you drop them often. 3. There's a picture that shows a safety locking mechanism between the "comfort grips", but on the tool I received there is none. There are 2 features in that picture, and the other features does apply to my tool, so it was probably easier to simply re-use the picture from a tool that does include a safety lock. 4. The internal oval hole for splitting wire, may work with certain gauges of Romex, but is more beneficial for working with round power cords. Plus, nothing in the listing indicates a replacement blade for the "cord splitter" is included. I think the blade would last longer with power cords than if trying to use it to open the ends of say, direct burial cable. 5. Speaking of direct burial cable, I have a lot of UDF to run, which is why I bought this tool. I felt that the extended angled blade mounted between the hand grips would be a convenient time-saver when working with UDF. Now, mine did not arrive with a spare blade, which equires a very tiny Metric Allen Wrench to replace, but I'm just guessing because my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. I reached out to the Seller, and asked where I could order a spare replacement blade. Basically the Seller told me it may have fallen out in transit. It's a small blade, and there's no staples top and bottom to prevent the blade from falling out. It shouldn't fall out, but if the tool is dropped, even if it's in a box or envelope, the cardboard backing could bow out enough, and then, "Oops!" It was on sale when I ordered it, and if that blade works well with UDF cable, then it's worth the cost of a spare replacement blade to me. The Seller told me they would send me something, which is above and beyond, so I truly appreciated it. They would contact me again, and that was the last I heard from them. (lol) They probably forgot about me, but the tool was on sale, and I still have the pre-installed blade that came with the tool. The only reason that I'm bringing this up is that once you've used up both blades, it would most likely be easier to go back to using a razor knife than trying to find another replacement blade. However, when on sale, and if it's to your benefit, you may as well just buy another new wire stripper. 6. There's one thing I do not like. One bit of misleading information, but it all comes down to what you use most: round or oval. The cable cutting capability of this tool is more limited than I expected. I blame neither the tool nor the Seller. The listed cutting capacity is: 25mm, which is both true and false. The problem is trying to get the tool to open its jaws wide enough to accept a 1" cable, which is 25.4mm in Metric. Another problem is that the cutting feature is located at the bottom of the jaws, which seems to be an industry standard with wire strippers, for leverage and strength. My tool will not cut a 2 AWG round power cable, or primary wire, in a single cut. At the center of the cutting edge, the distance between the two blades is roughly 8mm. You have the option of cutting one side, flipping the cable, then cutting the other, or trying to forcibly squish it down so it fits in-between the blades. For me, it's not a problem when dealing with oval shaped 14 or 12 AWG Romex, or UDF cable, and I don't have a problem with flipping over a 10 AWG cable, if needed. If you work a lot with large round cables, which I don't anymore, you're just better off with decent cable cutters. So I had to take 1-star off because, even if the blades are long enough to cut a 1-inch wide cable, the length of the cutting edge doesn't really mean much if the distance between the blades is too narrow for the wire or cable to fit inside. Amazon doesn't allow 1/2-stars, otherwise I would state that if you consider the cutting function as a built-in bonus feature so you don't have to keep fumbling around between tools, I would give the wire strippers 4-1/2-Stars. ... show more

  • Una buena herramienta para los trabajos personales
Material Type: LA320919
... show more
