Koa Tenor Uke from the Industry Leader Since 1929, Martin's tenor ukuleles have set the standard for build quality, tonal integrity, and visual beauty — not to mention playability. The Martin T1K koa tenor ukulele is no exception. Its back, sides, and top are made of solid Hawaiian koa for the ultimate in authentic, beautiful island tone. The T1K also has Sitka spruce bracing that gives it internal strength but lets it flex and resonate naturally. It has traditional nickel open-gear tuning machines, a sipo fingerboard, and a solid sipo bridge to transfer all the vibrations to its body for superior sound. To top it off, the T1K features a hand-rubbed, satin finish that enhances the visual impact of the koa's already gorgeous grain.Martin T1K Koa Tenor Ukulele Features: Solid Hawaiian koa back, sides, and top for authentic, musically rich island tone Sitka spruce bracing lends internal strength while allowing

  • Excellent value, great tone and playability
Size: Left Color: Natural
I sold my solid mahogany Pono tenor as the tone just wasn't what I was looking for - a bit flat and soft - in order to upgrade to this Martin. Happy to report that I got exactly what I was looking for in tone. This is a very bright instrument, and loud. If you want soft mellow tone, go with a mahogany instrument. This koa tenor rings out in wonderful plunky ukulele greatness. I can even finger pick with my finger pads (no long fingernails) and the notes sound bright and well defined. All the notes are well balanced - there are no "wolf notes" that resonate louder than the others. This is a simply adorned instrument, but the wood grain is attractive enough. The intonation is the best on any uke I've owned (this is #8) - chords higher up the neck that leave the G string a bit sharp on other ukes sound perfect on this uke. The action is moderate - right where I like it - and the fretboard feels spacious and playable. The neck is not too chunky. The body is light and resonant. Do expect to tune often the first few days as the strings are new and not stretched out yet - this is to be expected with a new instrument. What could be better? I do wish the seller offered to install strap buttons - I always hate drilling into a new instrument, but will be doing that this weekend. Also, the tuners, as another reviewer commented, are serviceable but could be better. Luckily, these are easily replaced by a local music shop (or yourself if you're brave) if you fall in love with the instrument and want to upgrade. The gig bag is exceptional as gig bags go, but I ordered a hard case for faster access since it needs to be stored in its case with a humidifier during the winter and I hate fussing with a zipper. Finally, the fret markers are unusually small and easily missed. Thankfully, there are markers on the side, which most people use anyway. In summary, this instrument is a joy to play and can easily hold its own against ukuleles that cost twice as much. It's an excellent value. ... show more

  • Great tone
Size: Left Color: Natural
Great tone. Truly beautiful. Setup short of expectations. Took it to a professional luthier who filed down the fret edges (we're sharp edged), lowered the bridge and changed out the strings and now the feel is perfect. (Well worth $29). The Koa wood is nice, but not at all well-matched. But that's why it's $400 vs $1,400. Still worth the price, and a significant sound quality step up from beginner ukuleles. Sounds like a fine instrument rather than a plunky toy. ... show more

  • Had to replace bridge, twice!
Size: Left Color: Natural
It sounds above average and plays light with good action. The bridge just came apart one day. I opened the case and it was blown up. Martin, sent me a replacement bridge that THEIR approved luthier fixed. It blew up again in a couple of months. The luthier told me that the bridges that Martin uses on ukuleles are junk and put a higher quality one on it for me and now it isn't falling apart anymore. For what it is worth, the same thing happened to a Martin Soprano Uke I own that I love to play. After the bridge disintegrated on that one, I had luthier put a better one on. If you spend the same amount of money on a Kala you won't have to worry about it spontaneously falling apart. You pay a price for the name Martin and unless you plan on re-selling it, it's a waste of money. ... show more

  • A horrible transaction
Size: Left Color: Natural
The Martin T1K Ukulele is a beautiful instrument and, relative to its quality, a good value (yes, it's expensive but it is a deal for a solid koa wood instrument). Unfortunately, I was supposedly buying an excellent condition slightly used Martin for a decent just under $500 price. What I received was a cheap (physically and fiscally) off-brand ukulele inside a Martin bag. I checked (on Amazon) and the tenor ukulele I got was typically a $50+- model. At least Amazon immediately sent a return postage label, but otherwise this was just a laughable transaction, and not as in a happy laugh. ... show more

  • Awesome koa concert ukulele, well constructed and designed! Great value for price ‼️
Size: Left Color: Natural
A solid koa Martin concert ukulele at an affordable price over main Hawaiian name brands. My dad owned and played a Martin soprano uke that my older brother inherited. Bro was talented self taught to play the ukulele. Now in my golden years I always wanted to own a martin koa ukulele. This concert ukulele is beautifully made and the sound is awesome, with awesome resonance. Love the tuning keys that are side type as on guitars. Uke comes with a soft carry case embroidered with the Martin trademark name. Seller packed uke well and it was delivered by UPS truck instead of US Postal. If you in market for a koa concert ukulele, look no more. I received a Hawaiian made concert uke as a gift from my late wife that now sells for over $1200 if one can find one. Would do another transaction with this seller. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🇺🇸👍 ... show more

  • Not the quality expected
Size: Left Color: Natural
I’ve recently gotten into the ukulele and since I’m a professional classical full time musician, I decided to get a step up uke. I’ve been shopping for 3-4 months. Finally I decided to try this Martin as I had read many good reviews. I was really disappointed. The frets were not finished properly and were noticeably sharp on the upper side (lower side was ok). Intonation was mediocre at best, certainly not what one would expect from a $500+ ukulele. Since GC has such a good satisfaction policy, I’m glad I tried this and was able to return it (literally the next day). I decided to keep a similarly priced ukulele I was comparing it to, and this one has great intonation and much nicer finishing touches like binding, abalone shell, and movable individual bridges for each string. Your experience might be different, but I would warn you to beware. ... show more

  • Top quality Martin ukulele IMHO!
Size: Left Color: Natural
When received I could only wonder how Martin made such a nice Ukulele for the price. Made in Mexico but IMHO by some of the best craftsmen out there. I really don't see how Pa. craftsman and Made in the USA could do better? I read the reviews on the internet and expected a less quality build, but instead got more than I expected. I could not find a flaw and the instrument is extremely nice sounding to me, very easy to fret chords and it has great tone. It is also plenty loud. I have several other ukuleles and this one is by far the best playing and sounding of the group! Real Martin quality! ... show more
