I bought the same lid that was made for a 55 on another listing and it was a smidge too big, seriously, like a hair too big.I returned it and found this listing for the marineland 55 gallon and this fits perfectly! Highly recommend, it's a thick glass.

We have 3 cats and 3 fish tanks... I use H2Pro glass tops on all three tanks. The tops fit perfectly for my 10 and 55 gallon tanks. After installing the top on my 55 gallon, I loaded it with 30+ pounds of weight to ensure it could hold at least 1 or 2 cats and I'm more concerned about the plastic cross bar on my tank breaking before these glass lids. ... show more

It's hard to rate this because these things are so standard. I don't recall if I've ever bought a set like this that varied in design and quality. All of them seem to suffer the same drawback: it's really hard to slide the plastic pieces onto the glass. And dangerous. I get this done by soaking the plastic in hot water (I have a large utility sink in my woodshop), then with both pieces wet, I squeeze dish soap into the plastic groove. Rather than trying to push them straight together, I rest one end of the glass on the plastic sink bottom and slide the plastic down from the top end. Wearing gloves for safety and grip, I can do most of it by hand, but the last few inches require light taps with a rubber mallet. You can also use a heat gun to soften the plastic. Be careful about overheating the glass. If it heats too fast, it will crack. ... show more
