This mattress cover does not feel or look like it would be waterproof, but it is. It is soft -- like lying on cotton sheets. We use it under cotton sheets to ensure the mattress stays dry from perspiration or the occasional urinary incompetence that can come from anesthesia recovery. The mattress cover fits so well in fact, I keep forgetting whether it is zipped in place or just held by elastic. I don't know how many times I've checked when making the bed. This is as comfortable as the sheets, with none of the feel of lying on a rubber shield like one can feel in a hospital. The Twin XL size fits the mattress perfectly.
