The Grizzl-e is easy to install, with a robust but pliable long cable. It's exactly as smart as it needs to be -- not at all. It's almost certain your car already has all of the time of use scheduling and power use tracking you need for time of use charging -- both our Tesla model 3 and Chevy Bolt EV do. It can charge a Tesla just fine with a J1772 adapter (one comes with every Tesla), the only thing you're giving up compared to the much more expensive Tesla Wall Connector is that you have to tap the charge port with your finger to open it - it doesn't include the remote opener in the charge handle for a Tesla - not a big deal. If you need to use it on a circuit smaller than 50 amps, you can reduce the maximum power of the Grizzl-e with DIP switches inside the unit; no messing with apps! This is replacing an Enel-X Juicebox 40. That unit was top-of-the-line with all of the "smart" nonsense. It took forever to pair it to the wifi, and a year down the road, Enel-X updated it remotely to use their new app. I'd be complaining like everyone else that the app is terrible, but I didn't even get that far - the update bricked my unit. It became impossible to connect it to my wifi network, and at the same time, it stopped reliably delivering a charge - what a disaster! Never again. This charger is simple and reliable, getting it up and running took less than 5 minutes to mount the bracket on the wall and plug it into my 14-50 outlet. ... show more

This is an excellent EV charger. It is made of high quality materials. It does not have WiFi on the basic charger, but since most vehicles will give you the information that seems like it would be redundant. Installation is straight forward with two caveats. The plug to the outlet is 24", so you may want to have the outlet installed so the cord can go in horizontally, which is what we did. It uses Robertson screws (S2 and S3) which need a square head, not Phillips or straight slot. ... show more

I would definitely recommend this EV charger to anyone in the market for one. It isn't a smart charger, but we didn't need that. The price was great. We are replacing the mobile charger we had been using, that came with our car, so we can use it when we travel. Technically the Grizzl-e charger is mobile charger too, but the unit and cord together weighs about 20 pounds. The electric charger cord is very thick and heavy duty and the whole unit looks well made and sturdy. Ours is mounted inside, but it is weatherproof so it can go outside if you need it to. Ours isn't hardwired, so it was easy to install. One problem we had: our 14-50 wall plug needs to be turned upside down because of the difference in how the plug on the Grizzl- e wall unit is orientated compared to our mobile charger's plug. ... show more

We purchased an EV for use around the DFW area. Home charging should meet most of our requirements. I had a 30 amp circuit available. I did not see the need for the features of the smart chargers as most of those are available in the car. Since I only had a 30A circuit, I really liked the option of limiting the charging rate with dip switches instead of through software. And, the price was reasonable. The unit is very well made. The aluminum housing and the cables are very durable. Installation was a snap with the enclosed mounting bracket. (I had one issue but I still gave 5 stars because the unit is great. When the charger came in I was not ready to install it so it sat unopened for several days. When I was ready to do the install. I opened the box and there was no mounting bracket. I reached out to Amazon customer support and within 5 minutes had a live support person on the line that arranged a return and guaranteed a delivery of a new charger, at no charge, by the next day. This works super well with our ID4. The car estimates roughly 32-37 miles of range added per hour whilst using this charger, which is so much better than the included level 1 charger that estimated 2-4 miles of range added per hour. This thing is built super tough and has possibly the thickest most durable cabling I've come across. Not only that, but the installation was unbelievably easy and the unit itself just looks pretty badass in the garage. This charger is UL listed, which was a basic requirement for me. I'm not a fan of IoT devices or smart anything. I see them as a security liability as ransomware and cyber crime escalate (not to mention govt surveillance). There are also a lot of reviews of smart chargers where chargers are bricked by a software update, or can't charge while updating, or removes some feature they liked via update. The Grizzl-e doesn't do any of that. You set it up and it just works. The mounting process is easy. The holster is functional and solidly supports the cable and plug using the supplied anchors on drywall. The case is heavy but not in a bad way - more in a this is built to last way. The cable is thick and makes the cord that came on my factory Bolt dual charger look puny. The cable is made to last. Changing output is easy - remove 4 bolts and flip some switches according to the manual. This unit was recently featured in a teardown on Munro Live. They loved the simplicity and added safety of physical fuses. This charger doesn't offer any bells and whistles, but this is a great value for someone who doesn't care about all the data mining and checking on things with your phone and just wants something simple and built to last.
