  • 3 years still going strong , moderate use all year , trimming , home firewood
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
3 years and I really havnt had a problem. I use it all year moderately , trimming and home firewood , I have lots of mature trees on property so I have plenty of 16" diameter and less limbs and trees that come down to cut up { ash beetles gave me a bunch } . sharp chain will cut larger and I have , but within reason it has only so much horsepower , but I try to stay in that range and have found it capable . 2 Greenworks and an aftermarket battery are still charging , and I'm still happy with how long they last. In this wood size range I found I was using it instead of the Stihl 250 , no fuel mixing, no pull start, no carb , no hopefully staying running while you set it down too long , etc , but it doesnt have the horsepower of the Stihl by any means. It all depends on how you'll use it. Ideal if your a cut for a few minutes stop and move stuff for a few minutes , cut again, stop etc , type of cutter, which I am. If your just cutting up good size block all day stay with the stihl or husky. ... show more

  • Serious chainsaw. A real tool and part of the great overall GreenWorks system
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
I will admit that I was very skeptical about a battery powered / cordless chainsaw. Kind of the same nagging fear of lack luster performance when I made the cut over to cordless drills 20+ years ago. Honestly even the name "GreenWorks" worried me as well and I feared that they were simply jumping on the "eco-warrior" hype train vs. being focused on building and designing a usable tool. I researched and read both personal and industry reviews of the tool and 80V system. I could not find a single negative comment and it seemed to be universally loved. Ultimately I figured that there must be something to this and their 80v line of products so I went ahead and ordered. Worst case I could always return if it did not live up to the hype. Well I used the saw heavily over the weekend and I am simply stunned. It handles, feels, and preforms just likes a gas saw. It cuts without hesitation and does not lose power as the battery drains. The on-board power indicator is great because it lets you know you are getting low because otherwise you would never know. It lived up to it's rating of ~45 minutes of cut time and easily hit the "150 cuts" per charge as advertised. I was doing more clean up work (vs. heads down non stop cutting) and used the saw for 2-3 hours of work time before it eventually was out of juice the first time. The 30 minute recharge time is amazing and was not any kind of inconvenience as I just took that opportunity to clean up the debris and limb scraps I had been cutting. Battery was full before I could blink and it didn't even give me a chance to catch my breath. If rotating two batteries you would literally have infinite time as the literature states. It was refreshing not to be covered in oil/exhaust and fumes the entire day as well as with the limited vibration you are simply not completely worn out from using it. Pick it up - use it - put it down - pick it up and use it again. No need to kill it and restart it between cuts. I used it to fell and process two full trees, to take out a large 20" stump/trunk and cut it into rounds that someone else left standing, and overall to clean up 2.5 full acres of wooded property and all on only 2 charges of the battery. Simply amazing results and performance! Pros: Powerful saw with real cutting power ~45 minutes of cut time per charge fast 30 minute recharge of battery no need to deal with gas/oil mixture part of a powerful tool line that shares battery and charger so no need to purchase duplicate components when expanding Cons: Since it is not a screaming smelly monster, at times it is almost too easy to forget that this is a serious tool that demands respect and needs proper safety precautions. Spare batteries are expensive (but they worth it) In short I love this tool and look forward to expanding into it's other equally well rated brothers! ======================== Update =========================== I recently recommended this to a friend. He purchased on my advice and after using it he had a similar outstanding experience. As with me the saw FAR exceeded his expectations and if now further recommending it to his extended family members who live in rural Colorado. ... show more

  • Works good but leaks oil
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
Bought this to replace a 10 year old Makita that died on me. I don't have heavy use needs for a chain saw so I like the convenience of the battery powered options and I have had good luck with Greenworks products. I have only used it once (to cut down a Christmas tree) since I have had it and it worked like a champ (granted, that wasn't a really demanding test for a chain saw). My only complaint is that it leaks oil when not in use. Not sure if this is normal (my Makita never did), but I had it sitting in my garage and noticed after a couple of days it had a small pool of oil underneath it. I cleaned it up and put a pan underneath it and glad I did because it just seems to continue to leak oil. I store the saw in the upright position, not on its side so either this is a design flaw that needs fixed or something is wrong with the saw I received. ... show more

  • Quiet
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
If there is one feature that rules every other it has to be how quiet this is. I mean, if it didn't cut well quiet wouldn't be a feature. But it cuts well. Well enough for how quiet it is. I had a 2.0Ah battery and I almost got the saw without a battery, but it's a much better deal to get one with a tool. So now I have two 2.0Ah batteries and two fast chargers and I've been surprised at the battery life. It has gotten dark on me twice when I thought I had plenty of time to use a whole battery. Easily an hour with some downtime during the cutting time. The batteries charge in 30 min, so I couldn't run out of battery if I tried. and if I did, I could stack or move wood while waiting. I considered a bigger battery, but I think lighter is better as far as with a chainsaw. I'm not going to say it's the most powerful saw, but keep it sharp and let it cut and she goes. I'm not a lumberjack, I'm not getting paid by the board foot. And when I think about it being a screaming 2 stroke with gas and oil and hearing protection, I'm good with this. ... show more

  • Great for casual home use.
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
Works well, but the included battery doesn't last long enough for my case. I often found myself taking a break to recharge it. The weight is perfect though, balanced between the blade and the battery. Also like that the recharging bay has a fan that cools the battery even after it has done charging. No sure why the recharging bay always sounds like it is electrically drawing power even with no battery in the bay. ... show more

  • Slightly heavy, otherwise I love it.
Size: 16" (2.0Ah)
This machine is powerful. It cuts fast, and is much quieter than a gas saw, or my old plug-in electric for that matter. The only downsides: It is a little heavy (not something you want to use climbing a tree). And the battery only lasts about 30 - 40 min of cut after cut. Easy workaround for the short battery life: I cut and cut until it dies, throw the battery in the charger, and then use the time to move the logs/brush as needed. It doesn't take too long to recharge, and I actually appreciate taking a break anyway. ... show more
