  • Heavy, but powerful
Size: 12" Snow (Tool Only)
Buffalo New Yorker here. I bought this about a month ago and got to use it during our recent, nationally recognized storm. Many of my friends and family laughed at me and my electric ambitions. I kept telling them though, 80v is A LOT of power for a 12" wide propeller. When I saw this thing go on sale, I finally got to prove them wrong. The shovel handled about 6 inches of fresh snow without issue, anything higher required lifting the unit a bit and taking a bit off the top first (super effective.) I especially like that it's only 12" wide, as I can quickly and easily do the porch steps as well. The unit is astonishingly able to handle end-of-driveway slush, but only if your battery is relatively full. Power decreases as the battery is drained. More than halfway, drained, it will stall in such conditions. With a fresh battery, I'm able to handle my tight 2-car wide entryway with ease. A couple of my neighbors were equally astonished and even had to cross the street a couple of fo times to move the snow I inadvertently blew into my neighbor's driveway -- which leads me to one of two cons about this thing: You can't direct the snow-throwing direction, which means you have to be incredibly strategic if you're in an urban or even semi-urban environment. The other downside is that the shovel is rather heavy. I'm a pretty fit dude in my 30s, but I imagine this might be troublesome for some folks. It's certainly easier on your body than shoveling, but quite as easy as snow blowing. This has been terrific for my small, urban driveway. IDK if battery life would be appropriate for anything larger, but you can get more batteries. Luckily for me, I've got a Greeenworks 80v mower that uses the same battery, so I got the "tool only" variant of this for less than $200. Final note: remember to store your batteries indoors. Keeping them in the cold will both hurt performance and lifespan. ... show more

  • The good and the bad after one season
Size: 12" Snow (2.0Ah)
After one season of use, and four snow events, the following are my comments. I found the battery life and the recharge time to be excellent. The unit was powerful, and able to handle the snow of up to 5” - sending it 20 ft away. I found it to be heavy to manage, especially after using it for awhile. The way it throws the snow is awkward - it shoots it straight ahead and high into the air. With the slightest air current, it blows all over the place, including back to where I had already cleared. However, I did develop a method of using it in my driveway that seemed to somewhat alleviate the “blowing all over the place” problem. I did not find it useful during a light snowfall - 1 inch or so - I found it easier to hand shovel. I found it most useful with the heavier, wetter snowfall, about 5”. And I was very pleased with it at the bottom of my driveway, where the street plows had piled snow. It is heavy to use, though. In summary, there is good and bad, and it is an individual’s particular needs and uses that will make it worthwhile. In my case, I would buy it again. ... show more

  • This is not the tool for everything, but it's great at moving snow.
Size: 12" Snow (2.0Ah)
I've had this through several storms now, and it's been really great. It doesn't get clogged in heavy, wet snow. It moves a _lot_ of snow, and throws it quite far away. It works great for clearing the deck, clearing the walk, and today I used it to get my car unstuck when the plow hadn't come yet. It's portable enough to chuck in the car and take with if you think you might get snowed in somewhere. It's not great for light snowfalls—if there's only an inch of snow on the ground, you might as well use a shovel. But when it gets to be a couple of inches deep, it's fantastic. I suspect that when it gets to be quite deep, this will also not be an ideal tool, but it's so easy to use that it's not much bother to just go out and clear the snow a few times. It does work with the larger battery if you have one, but that makes it heavier. It's still really useful, but don't expect to throw this around like a regular snow shovel. It's not light, and you'll probably pull a muscle. Use it more like a lightweight snow blower, which is basically what it is. Also, don't expect to get in close if you're clearing steps. The wide-open front will try to chew into the step. Go the other way, away from the step, and then clear what you missed with a regular shovel. Use this for bulk snow removal, not detail work. tl;dr: Great tool—I'm really happy I decided to get it. ... show more

  • SENIOR ADVISORY - THIS UNIT IS HEAVY!
Size: 12" Snow (2.0Ah)
First, does it do the job? Yes, and it's quiet (a added plus). Today was our first use (2" overnight). We bought the unit to clear a path for our elder, short-legged dog. I had to physically shove the battery into the unit before it locked in place. Not good. Probably a good design, not for a 70 year-old. The unit cleared the snow but repeatedly got stuck on little lawn ridges. No issues when used on flat, paved driveway. And definitely heavy. It's designed with a non-reversible, right-handed grip, meaning my left arm and shoulder did the lifting to keep it moving forward. Even using it as a shovel (moving through 2-3' of snow, coming back, do another 2-3' swath, ...), I had to lift the unit to bring it back to the starting line. My back, I'm sure, will require some liniment and I'll require some ibuprofen before the day is done. Please note I was working on grass then on pavement. Pavement caused less issues and they were still there as driveways and walkways can bevel over time. The safety trigger tended to stick which could be a first use issue. Should you seriously need something similar, consider one with wheels. ... show more
