  • Mowing the lawn is fun!
Size: 40V 20" (4.0Ah + 2.0Ah)
The GreenWorks Twin Force lawn mower, is powerful, quiet, and works really well. The GreenWorks mower is very nicely made. It’s constructed primarily of plastic, but it feels very robust and well screwed together. All of the components feel of high quality in the hand. Assembling the GreenWorks is easy; you just take it out of the box and attach the handle. The process involves no tools and takes only minutes. It’s an amazingly simple lawnmower to use. Once the batteries are charged you pop them into the two slots on the top of the mower. Then set the cut height using the sliding lever on the top – no need to set each wheel individually! Lastly, press the button on the handle and pull back on the safety bar. Once that’s done… boom… the GreenWorks comes to life. In use the GreenWorks is a revelation, especially if you’ve only used gasoline mowers. All of my previous mower experience was with manual-push gas-powered Craftsman mowers. They were powerful, but they were also heavy and loud. The GreenWorks packs all of the power of those machines, but it’s very light, easy to maneuver, and so quiet. My neighbor also has a cordless electric mower (an older Black & Decker) and even he commented on how quiet the GreenWorks is. It sounds no louder than a powerful fan on low speed, and even high speed is very subdued. Lastly, it’s such a joy to not have to get and store gas. Moving performance was quite good. First about my lawn, I have a .30 acre lawn that is basically flat and has a few patchy/bald spots underneath large trees. I never let my lawn get too long and mow it every weekend. In my case, 99% of the time the GreenWorks operates on its low speed, but when it hits a thick patch of lawn, or some twigs, it ramps up to high speed. It does this only until it clears the obstacle, and then lowers down again instantly. The switch between high and low speeds is automatic and not user controlled. I found my lawn to be cut very evenly and I did not have to do multiple passes to get an effective cut. I used the GreenWorks’ mulching feature and the clippings that were left behind were small and inconspicuous. I have yet to use the included bag, and have no plans to. Battery life is quite good. I’m able to mow my whole yard without having to stop and recharge. Once one battery dies the second battery automatically kicks in. One thing to bear in mind is that the GreenWorks will always draw power from the battery on the left hand side compartment first, and then switch to the other. I find it best to place the small battery on the left. This way after the small battery dies, and the GreenWorks switches to the large battery, I can pop the small battery in the charger just in case I need some extra juice. The charger is quite quick and even just a half hour of charging will yield a decent amount of run time. Thoughtfully both batteries have external charge indicator lights. If you’re using the mulching feature, you’ll want to remove the mulching plug in the back of the mower after each use, as it gets quite full of grass clippings. Be prepared for a bit of a mess when you remove it. I also like to clean the underside and body of the mower with a brush to keep everything clean. I store the GreenWorks in my one car garage. It fits between the wall and my car, and I fold down the handle to make it as compact as possible. All in all… a great mover, that’s also tremendously convenient. ... show more

  • Great Mower
Size: 40V 20" (4.0Ah + 2.0Ah)
Those considering this mower are already aware of the gas vs. electric part of the equation, so how does it actually perform? I have been using this mower (and the G-MAX trimmer/edger) for a few months now and I'm glad I chose to go cordless electric. I was originally considering a corded (plug-in) electric mower, but be careful and do your research! There are mower amperage + extension cord gauge + length of cord factors to figure out in order to properly operate a corded mower. In my case, it was actually LESS expensive to go with the cordless mower. I'm so glad I did. This mower is light, maneuverable, and the collapsing handle is a big bonus for me (limited storage). It's also much quieter than I expected. Power-wise, this mower has been great. The auto-sensing feature does an excellent job of ramping up the blade speed in areas where the grass is taller or thicker. Likewise, it does great in slowing down the blades when the power is no longer needed. I would say I have a normal yard - mostly St. Augustine with some Fescue, Crabgrass, and other weeds. This mower has no trouble cutting it all. I have also tested the mower on tall grass. I waited two weeks between mowings, used the second lowest setting, and still had no trouble cutting. The grass catcher on the back also works well. The full bag indicator flap can be misleading if the little holes get clogged, but I usually tap under the bag with my foot to tell how full it is. Now, how about the batteries? The 40-volt L-ion batteries are awesome! Craftsman recently came out with competing dual-blade 40-volt mower that I considered, and I believe Lowe's now has a Kobalt mower as well. I ultimately decided on Greenworks because they have been making cordless lawn tools longer and also have a wider range of compatible tools in the G-MAX line. It takes about an hour and a half to two hours to fully charge the large battery, about an hour for the small battery. My lot is 40x140 foot, which means about 3,300 square foot of actual lawn. I can cut this using only ONE (large) battery - with plenty of charge left over if I need a little more juice for the edger! Currently, I'm using the small battery for the trimmer/edger, the large battery for the mower - and I still have another large battery! I am very happy with the battery performance to say the least. Because of this, I plan on buying the G-MAX blower/vac this fall - and I won't need any additional batteries. My only critique of this mower is that the battery compartments get dusty. This is likely due to the fact that I also have dry, thin areas of grass in my yard in which a lot of dirt is kicked up when mowing. It's not a big deal, the connectors are on the upper side of the compartment (away from the dirt) and I just do a quick vac before putting the mower away. If this is the only "maintenance" I have to do on this mower, then I am still happy. If you are thinking about going electric, I can tell you that my experience has been very positive. Make sure you consider all the factors if you are leaning towards a corded mower as the total cost may close to a cordless one. This mower has great power, ample battery life, and it's features all work well. I will be buying more in the G-MAX line for sure. ... show more

  • Very good electric mower
Size: 40V 20" (4.0Ah + 2.0Ah)
Overall, a great mower. Lightweight, quiet, and powerful enough for most lawns. Easy to start, easy to maneuver, good cutting height options. Battery life is good— could be longer, but I bought two 6.5 amp batteries and with the provided 4 and 2.5 amp ones, I have enough to do an entire acre. Good value products. ... show more
