Packaged well. Same tech as a Thule (dual opening, claw style attachment with torque sensing). Fits very well on my 2019 VW Tiguan (and the color matching is pretty close to wheels and trim). I installed as far back as possible (1/8" from open tailgate); still allows use of sun roof - 3/4 of the opening is unobstructed). Very pleased so far. Will try it out on the expressway / in rainy weather and will update if it fails... Update: 30 days of use and about 2k miles driven with it. Personally, I have not seen a decrease in MPG on my 2019 VW Tiguan. Very little road noise as well. It has performed excellent thru rain and snow (no leaks - knock on wood). Clamps held tight in sustained 50 mph side winds. Opens from either side. Finish on the paint is a good quality. Holds everything my kids needed for a 4 day ski trip. Overall Great product. You should have it.

Ordered the titanium gray, pictured as black on the site, but is actually a titanium gray top, black bottom; Which is great for me since my car is the same color. Came with some superficial scratches inside from the mounting gear sliding around inside that was in a bag but not secured by the large twist tie. Small nick on the bottom & more superficial scratches. Not a huge deal, but especially for $400, and otherwise the product should be in NEW condition, not all scratched up. No styrofoam or padding of any kind, just in a plastic bag & shipping box, which is fine I guess, unless it gets dropped or smashed. I'd feel better if it had styrofoam around corners & sides at least. Pro's: Looks really good & perfect size for my 06 scion xb. Takes up almost whole roof with about 11 inches on one side free, was looking for something wide enough to fit my spare tire & long enough to store ice scraper, mini snow shovel. With lots more room to store hammock tent, boots, etc. It's very lightweight and claims to hold up to 165lbs which is great since my rack is rated the same. I probably won't put more than 100lbs in it. Love that it opens from either side to give more versatility for mounting other things to the roof. Locks are all plastic inside, with only metal being the key hole mechanism & rails inside box the locks are mounted to. Should really be aluminum or alloy, steel.. They work tho, with 2 keys (that cant be removed from the lock until it is locked shut to keep from losing them) Cons: The top is quite thin & has some give which keeps it lightweight, but I'm sure it wouldn't take much effort to get into it with a box cutter, & it could warp under very hot sun over 110° or so. I live in NW Ohio so it shouldn't be a problem here, but something to think about if you're further south. The bottom is much more solid for carrying the weight, I wish the top was the same. Like all of these boxes, the locks are on the sides and some reviews of other products mentioned the front catching wind and opening 3-4 inches at highway speeds. Theres not much of an overlapping lip to work with but I'll drill a small hole or two and use a small padlock or rivet a belt & clasp on, & some weather strip inside to stop water. I was surprised to see that Thule and more expensive boxes use the same style mounting gear this one came with, which is a hand-operated top that closes the claw underneath; because it's not a good design at all. These mounting gear do come with a paper showing the specific bars they fit (which is not shown on Amazon btw), which is a square that's wider at the bottom, but it probably wouldn't even fit those bc the shape is off, strange. Also they dont have any locking mechanism from what I can tell, and are always loose & wobbly! No thanks. I have aero bars (ovals), so the claws only come into contact with the tips which is not secure at all. They would be much better off including U-Bolts and metal plates which is what I'm going to get, but they would have to include a few options to meet everyone's needs. For the price, I'm really not impressed, but it's a good size & style for me and opens both sides so I'm gonna make some modifications and make it work. Really just wish the top was thicker or had fibers throughout to strengthen it, & that the locks were metal and not plastic. ... show more

I purchased this cargo box a week and a half ago, and unfortunately it won't work with my crossbars. The crossbars that I also ordered on Amazon didn't show the spacing so I had to take a leap of fait when I ordered the crossbars and this cargo box at the same time. Since I didn't realize this cargo box won't work with my crossbars until I had spent half the day installing my roof rack and crossbars, it wouldn't have been worth it to order a new roof rack and crossbars and spend all the time to uninstall the old one and install the new one. I get it that companies can't always cover the full cost of shipping for returns, but I just paid $500 for a cargo box and the quotes I receiving to send it back are close to $400. Now I either have to sell locally at a huge discount or try and track down the seller to see if they are willing to help me ship this back. I really with there was a kit to modify this cargo box because it looks really good and I was really pumped about it. If it won't work though, it doesn't really matter how great it looks or functions. Would love it if the seller could reach out to me and help me get this figured out. ... show more

Box has 1300 miles on it, it is the black version-exterior of the box is like a glossy golf ball for the top and a semi flat for the base. Not sure if anyone can get stickers to mate on surface permanently (maybe the bottom half) Things I like: Box is shiny like new every time I use it. I’ve actually taken the box with me to the car wash, sprayed it down and brush scrubbed it and interior was dry. One person operation/assembly Lightweight, but bulky. Fits my car for what I needed it for. It’s nice to be an original!- every box I see on the road when driving, is NOT a go plus. Bang for my buck? Heck yeah! Things I don’t like: I feel like the sizing is off, when compared to measurements online, retailer made it sound like it would barely keep the box from hanging on both sides....was actually smaller width wise. My rack is too big by a half inch (see last picture) I drilled two half inch holes on the front of the box to get the claws to grasp the whole bar (probably voided any warranty for the box) I wish the box had lashing points on the box and not the claws (for cargo net and luggage straps). Gas mileage fluctuated...last trip I was hanging between 30.3-32.7 mpg and after I gassed up after driving through the high plains I was only getting 29.4 mpg could’ve been a bad batch of gas and cross winds too...weird. I’ve got the stickers for the box, just havent made time for it. Should do well regardless of any trip I got coming next. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy it again. I found out about this box last year when a lady who was living out of her car had one and I asked her about it when she parked next to me at a Walmart parking lot.
