  • Very cool device.
Gave it 4 stars. It lost one for having a manual that was poorly translated and only slightly helpful. It does 3D as advertised. Cords could be longer. Controls are basic and sufficient. It's actually a great deal for a single viewer who doesn't want to invest in a projector and a screen. It's very comfortable, which is a happy surprise. I could wear it all day. It's perfectly suitable for 3D movie marathons. Edit: This may be the best way to watch 3D movies. For audio, I'm using a top shelf pair of headphones, and because Blu Ray audio is is so good, it sounds very much like being there. This G3Max visual experience is like being alone in a theater, sitting in the best spot in the house, except one is actually in a comfy place at home. And even better than the theater experience, this device fits onto the face in such a way that it blocks all outside light. The theater is pitch black, nothing visible except the screen. Paired with over-the-ear headphones, it isolates the viewer from the outside world. The 3D experience is better with the G3Max than with any other device or system. The bonus of having the tiny screens close to my eyes is that I can see perfectly up close, but need glasses in order to see well from a distance. For me, the Goovis unit allows me to see everything clearly without wearing my glasses. The controls allow me to adjust the picture to an impressive level of clarity. Now that I've watched a few films with my new G3Max, it's become super easy to set up and use. Setting up my projector and screen is tedious and time-consuming, but the Goovis is quick and easy. It's one of my few purchases that I love more each time I use it. I don't care about the substandard manual any longer. This device is too astonishing for four stars. It's a five star unit, for sure. For watching 3D movies alone, all you need is a 3D-capable Blu Ray player (headphones are recommended but not necessary) and this Goovis G2Max. It's way less expensive than other 3D systems, and the experience is much better. You will not be disappointed. ... show more

  • Incredible display! Better than the Apple Vision Pro
The media could not be loaded. I own both the Goovis G3 Max and the Meta Quest 3, and while the Quest is great for VR, the Goovis absolutely outshines it when it comes to screen quality. This isn’t a VR headset—it’s a personal home theater with stunning clarity that even surpasses the Apple Vision Pro in terms of display sharpness. The image quality is breathtaking—colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, and the overall viewing experience feels amazing. For movies, gaming, and YouTube, it delivers an unparalleled experience. One thing I want to note is my experience with the corners and pupillary distance. Depending on how the pupillary distance was adjusted, especially at the higher end, it seems that the corners of the screen were harder to view. This was surprising, but not a deal-breaker at all, and I’m still not sure if I just have something set up incorrectly. If you’re looking for the best screen for entertainment without the distractions of VR, the Goovis G3 Max is the ultimate choice. ... show more

  • It Mostly Meets Expectations
It does what they say it’s supposed to do. Frame packed and side by side 3D. It doesn’t do UHD HDR nor does it claim to. It barely has enough adjustment for eye separation distance to satisfy some but disappoint others. I question the screen size equivalency stated but it’s plenty big. The vision adjustments cover the 85 percentile person. If your vision requires special correction, many of these devices aren’t for you. While I don’t sing its praise, it a perfectly functional product for many. Comfort is fine for a few hours. When worn correctly, the results are satisfying. ... show more

  • Fidelity matches Vision Pro with less glare at equal virtual screen size. $1400+ not justified
Let’s just get this out of the way. These companies lie about the resolution. When you talk about VR/MR/XR/HMD, you cannot just add the resolutions of each eye and magically come up with a higher resolution. Each eye has a 2560x1440 in this HMD, so the resulting image is and will forever be 2560x1440. It is not 5K. Be aware that all the VR manufacturers (particularly Pimax) do this as well, constantly saying their headsets are 8K; not true. Also, when you’re considering screens you wear, consider the sizes these companies give to be complete marking BS unless they tell you the size of the display relative to a distance you’re sitting from it. For example: if you project an image on a wall arm’s length from the source that relative screen size would be, let’s say 12”. Now project that image on a wall across a street and it magically transformed into a 5000” display. It’s all relative. What matters when it comes to sharpness of HMD’s is PPD. How many pixels are packed within each degree of your vision. Most people find the sweet spot of virtual displays to be about 50-70 degrees total of the screen FOV. Outside of that it’s a massive screen where you have to turn your head to see everything and it’s really nauseating. Imagine sitting closer than the front row of a movie theatre; not enjoyable. When sizing an Apple Vision Pro movie to the same size as this Goovis G3 Max (taking up the same FOV), the PPD is high enough for both to the point where pixels are not visible. I am a VR enthusiast, have owned a lot of headsets and AR glasses as well. I own the Vision Pro. A lot of times, being completely honest, I preferred using XReal glasses to watch movies because I could just put them on, connect them directly to my Samsung ZFold 3 and have a nice enough looking movie up and running within seconds that isn’t constantly bugging out because I’m blocking camera sensors or it thinks I’m making a hand gesture (very common with the Vision Pro). And no matter what others say, the glare on the Apple Vision Pro is horrendous. I may be sensitive to glare, but there is and always will be internal reflections and glare inherent to the pancake lens optics used in headsets like the Vision Pro. Meta headsets have less glare than Apple’s, that’s the truth. With the heavy weight of the Vision Pro headset as well, I was very interested in the higher resolution of the Goovis G3 Max (compared to all the current AR glasses offerings which top out at 1080p). And now to what I think about the Goovis G3 Max. The visual fidelity is on par with the Vision Pro. There is also less glare, which I lend to their aspheric lens design. I do actually prefer the viewing experience over the Vision Pro. But that’s about where the benefits end, and that in and of itself does not justify the $1400+ price tag. Goovis, if you took out all the superfluous junk, made it so the displays were recognized by sources and could utilize the full resolution, and offered it for a far lower eventual price tag, more people would by this. Here's the downsides: • The halo strap is horrible. There needs to be a second swivel point directly between the halo strap and the beginning of the mount that sticks down, not just the end of it. No matter what, I cannot get a good light seal and the bottom part lifts off my cheeks. The only way I can get zero light seal is if I remove the headset and just rest it on my face when lying on my back. You need to offer side loops for people that want to use a “regular” strap system (a-la solo loop band on the Apple Vision Pro). • Dumb LED light. Just remove it, worthless gimmick. • The internal speakers are utter trash. Imagine setting your phone speaker to 10%. That’s what it sounds like at 100% on this headset. You have to use your own audio solution, which adds even more expense. • IPD adjustment too easily movable. You set up the clearest image and then simply removing the headset you knock it out of whack and have to readjust it constantly. There should be a little thumbscrew like system that you can tighten down briefly to keep it from moving, or recess the adjustable IPD things behind a little rubber gasket like you do with the USB port at the top • Freely adjustable Min-Max virtual display size. There’s only two options. This can be done in software • Properly reported display information to things like Samsung DeX, etc. Samsung DeX can handle high resolution displays. No matter what, it defaults to 1080p with this, basically rendering the extra resolution useless because Goovis (I’m assuming) wants to keep the exact microOLEDs they used a secret and doesn’t report the EDID information. You can get a 4K stream (scaled down to 1440p) using their D4 Dongle thing, which works fine, but reading about how they simply stopped updating their previous streamer, who knows how long they’ll support the D4. TLDR; The visual fidelity is on par with the Apple Vision Pro when the virtual display is scaled equally. There is less glare than the Apple Vision Pro and I actually prefer the viewing experience. However, you’re paying $1400+ for that. Everything else about this headset is pretty bad, from the audio, to the comfort. If Goovis put the screens in a different body, removed the trash speakers, re-worked the head strap, and brought the price down, I would consider this. But I can’t justify the price when you could spend a few hundred dollars more at this point and get a Vision Pro that does have infinitely more use cases. ... show more
