As a mechanical engineer, I was very impressed with the design of this can opener. I've tried using conventional can openers on the side before using this one. The result doesn't compare. The blade is shaped so as to round the burr down and make the edges of the opened can blunt. I've tried picking at the burr to see if it's possible to cut myself inadvertently (I'm a bit klutzy and my hands constantly have little cuts on them.) The can is safe even for me! As advertised, the blade doesn't seem to touch the food. After opening my can, the blade was totally clean. (Of course, it's still good to wipe the blade with a wet cloth periodically.) That's the biggest win for me. I spent lots of time cleaning my old can opener. The grip is well made and ergonomic. I like the way it feels even though my hands are much bigger than the handle. The handle seems to be made from polypropylene, which is typically BPA free and pretty durable. So although I haven't used it for a long time, I expect it to last a long time. Oh, and it comes with a 1-year warranty, so the manufacturer must think it's durable too! ... show more

    • No mess and Easy to use!
After my old can opener got rusty in nooks and crannies to the point even a vinegar soak couldn't completely save it, I thought it was time to get a new can opener mainly cause the old one's replacement parts were hard to find/expensive. Thankfully I stumbled onto this and I'm never going back. High quality made of solid, good plastic and stainless steel. It lets you have a good grip on both the handle and knob as you use it making it absolutely easy to use. It's straightforward, smooth, and comfortable. It was to the point where when I first used it, I was shocked to have the whole top come off just like that because I barely put any force into it unlike my old one that really required me to push down. Best part is it doesn't even come in contact with whatever you're opening since it takes the whole lid off! Constant cleaning and trying to dry every bit was what ruined my old one so now I don't have to worry about that! ... show more

    • What is this sorcery?
What is this magic device? I'm sick and tired of replacing my dull can opener every 6 months, and struggling with it to slice through the metal in the lid. Especially Trader Joe cans. Are their cans made with hardened steel or something? I thought I'd look for something new and decided to try this opener. Wow. How does this thing work? Does it even touch the can? I locked it on and started turning, and it felt like I was twisting against air. Light as a feather. Suddenly the top of the can just lifted off. I think i'm going to order another for a spare in case they stop making them. And maybe one for my parents. And my brother. Best can opener I have ever had including several electric ones! I finally broke down and bought this after spending way too much time basically chewing open a single can. This can opener opens cans like butter. A great option for people that don't have a strong grip or dexterity as well. And I like that the edges of opened cans aren't sharp. Maybe it's just me, but I found opening cans with this a very counter intuitive process. I finally got it working and am sharing a photo of proper placement of the wheel along the edge. It separates the can at the bottom of the metal lip, not the top, so you have to pay attention to know when the process is complete. I don't particularly care whether I touch the lid or not so that benefit doesn't apply to me. It is a little harder to turn the wheel than the better known can opener that sits on the top; that plus the design issue took off a star for me. ... show more

    • I'm going to open up a can...any can ...easily!
I previously had a Pampered Chef can opener that would open cans from the side and leave a lid that could be stored in the fridge temporarily. I loved it and when it was older I could not find the exact same style, so I suffered with a can opener that was hard to turn. My friend made fun of me for putting up with it because it was so hard to turn and sometimes could not get the can opened at all. So I did a search on Amazon and this can opener had a good rating and a great price, so I ordered it. Omg! It's so easy to use and it has a magnet that lifts off the can lid easily. There are no sharp edges at all. It's works so easily and I think it is well made. I am so glad I made the decision to buy it! If you're on the fence just buy it! You won't regret it! ... show more

We've had a similar opener for about 20 years that we bought in Europe. Unfortunately, the cutting wheel started to wear out and I needed a replacement, but wasn't willing to go back to other mechanisms. Using google image search, we tried to find something that is available here in the US. There were several similar matches and this looked most promising. While the drive wheel still had the same logo on it, the new "Good Cook" model has several engineering improvements, making it significantly easier to use and taking much less effort to turn.     • Best can opener ever, buy it!
This can opener is one of the best things I've ever bought! It opens cans very easily, stays completely clean as it never touches the contents of the cans, it's light weight, takes up less space than any other can opener, it's super fast, easy to attach and detatch. Leaves the can top cleanly and safety removed, so nicely it can be reused as a lid to temporarily store any remaining contents of the can. Seriously when you put the lid back on the opened can it appears unopened. The price was great. The only thing I would improve would be a slightly more robust crank handle and making it in more colors. I'm going to buy these for every one I know, because who doesn't need a good can opener. :) ... show more
