Very fast and performant AI device, great value for money (I bought it on sale when it released last november, current prices are high but then again everything is expensive), I would have liked one more HDMI port so far but aside from that the ports are pretty good connectivity-wise. I found it to be quite portable and brought it around on my travels with a portable monitor as well. I think the fans could be better, not very noisy but could be more efficient in cooling down the machine, but really what you are paying for is the power of the strix halo. Regarding LLM models, it can run most models that are sub 70GB so 120-130B parameter models run at Q4_KS or IQ4_XS... if they are MoE I can get about 12 t/s for inference and dense can be quite slow. 70B~ is around 3 t/s, haven't tried the latest mistral dense yet. Anything smaller than those sizes is blazingly fast for inference, so I can run some webapps and overhead as well as the models. I'd highly recommend it for any LLM hobbyist. ... show more

Cheapest option to run big LLM models with large context but you will have to find the right settings. Performance is not amazing when comparing with a GPU but for individual use it is fine. Overall pretty good development machine and Decent gaming performance if you need a break. It sucks that you will have to find workarounds for most AI tools since everything is developed with Nvidia in mind. A lot of people seem concerned with the noise level so I will add that for me it is not bad at all as it is quieter than my laptop and the temperatures are good under load so no thermal throttling like most laptops. ... show more

Been running for about a month with no issues. Fantastic AI workstation and quite a bit heavier than I expected! Booted into Windows very quickly, then after verifying BIOS was up to date, wiped Windows and installed the latest beta of Fedora 44. WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth immediately recognized and connected. Ethernet on Realtek RTL8125 and WiFi uses Mediatek MT7925, so double check compatibility if you're installing Linux. Screaming fast and cleanly running 90b local AI models with Open WebUI and SearXNG. If you're pushing this box to the limit, keep it well ventilated and in a cool place because it can get hot quickly when running heavier AI operations. Otherwise it's near silent and CPU stays around 36°C for most operations with a really low power draw ... show more

If you like to play with 80B to 120B LLMs from Hugging Face, this is the best bang for the buck! I run Linux and use KoboldCpp to run GGUFs for the context management. I use Open WebUI to chat with the AI in a GUI with folders that apply a system prompt to all conversations within it. It streams at a very nice speed. I could not be happier with the set up! I had to use the Vulkan driver for text generation via LLMs to work, however. Sadly, I could not get ROCm working which is what I believe is needed for Stable Diffusion, Flux, Hi-Dream, etc. Stable Diffusion and other image/video generation models still work on the machine, but they run on CPU, so not very useful there. Somebody please, please correct me if I'm wrong because I would love to be able to generate images and videos more quickly. And, of course, i would go to 5 stars and update my review. UPDATE: I wrote this review based on what happened when I first got the AI PC. Then I decided to explore a bit. AMD's ROCm 7.1.1 now explicitly supports Linux on gfx1151, AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395! Meaning image generation now runs on GPU! You have to use Ubuntu 24.04.3, Python 3.12 and PyTorch 2.9 (virtual environment is your friend here). I am not allowed to post links here for some reason, but very thorough instructions for installing everything from the CLI can be found in AMD's ROCm documentation. I did have some HIP related system crashes that required hard powering down the machine during preliminary image gen testing with SDXL, Hi-Dream, Flux, and ZIT. I am going to try running FP8, avoiding Lightning/Turbo models, and running headless (OS GUI might have been stealing GPU cycles from image generation) for a while. I will report back after further testing, but so far I am very impressed with the speed. I also aim to do some lightweight video generation testing as well.
