  • Outstanding Tripod.
I was replacing an older tripod which had served me well for many years but which was on the heavier side and which had flip locks that I found more and more difficult to flip as the years have gone by. It was important that I find a sturdy, lightweight tripod which had legs that were fast and easy to extend and this tripod is exactly it. I've been using it for several weeks now and I have only good things to say about it. I use the Nikon D300 and my largest lens is the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 and this tripod handles both with ease. The leg locking mechanisms, in particular, are a joy to use. A half turn and you can slide the leg section right out; another half turn and the section is locked. And this is a time saver: On any given leg, turn all the leg locks at the same time and you can pull that leg to its maximum length in an instant. The feet on the tripod seemed secure enough to me but rather safe than sorry, I used the removable Loctite on the threads. Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat. ... show more

  • Long term durability?
This tripod is light, sturdy when set up, very compact then closed. It is everything you'd want in a set of travel tripod legs. The reason I rated it only 3 stars is that, for the high price, it has a really cheap looking plastic mechanism for setting the angle where the tripod leg stops. It just doesn't look like it will hold up under use for long. I guess only time will tell... I have paired these legs with a sturdy, but lightweight, Arcatech ball head. ... show more

  • Very small, very light, very stable.
I needed a good tripod to travel with. My go-to Manfrotto was just too big to easily fit in my carryon and it was heavy enough that I didn't ever want to carry it around with me. This is a great size but still very tall. It's also very stable. Fits in any bag I've tried... Honestly if you're considering these legs just get them. ... show more

  • except I purchased the recommended Ball Head as well
I purchased this item brand new from Wiki Deals for $540.66. When I received the item, it seemed to be high quality. However, when I extended the legs, one of them completely came out. It appears they forgot to put the plastic shim in. So I sent it back for a refund. A day later, I went to order and the price went up to $662.66!.. Exact same vendor, exact same product. I wouldn't be so pissed, except I purchased the recommended Ball Head as well, so now I need to return that. ... show more

  • Sturdy tripod and the twist mechanisms to extend the legs ...
Sturdy tripod and the twist mechanisms to extend the legs stay locked. But my complaint is that the legs came loose at the top and I now have to travel around with a torx wrench to keep the legs from flopping around. Quite annoying. The other thing is that the feet came off and got lost on my first outing. I recommend using Lock Tite or similar product for keeping the feet in place. I spent $28 to replace 2 feet after just one outing. Pissed me off. Also, I tried going to the Gitzo website to find out what feet to order to replace the ones I lost. The website told me to order some feet with a 3/8" thread feet. I knew that they didn't take a 3/8" thread (1/4" is correct) so I e-mailed them. No response. Really pretty horrible engineering for a $700 tripod with probably a $20 material cost. No more Gitzo for me. Strike me as arrogant. ... show more
