  • Otome Game that is Worth One Playthrough
In between life and death, without her memories, can our dear protagonist figured out her past and save all her friends? Or will the truth destroy everything? This was an interesting otome. There was one main plot. Then the depending on your choices, the story branched out. There were additional side stories you have to unlock to help flesh out the characters and to unlock other endings. There was a flowchart to keep track of whether you completed every scene. There was a lot of repetition if you want to complete all endings. The twist was kind of predictable. They kept hinting at it throughout the game. It was still sad but not surprising. Maybe it was just me, but the game was more focused on the story than the romance. All the guys had feelings for the heroine so it was more that they acted out on it. The guys were all different with their own personalities. The heroine was okay. There was a nice character development since the point of the story forced everyone to face their own demon. The main thing I dreaded was the black butterfly shooting part. I hated these events so much. These were easy to get a hang of but it took a toll on my thumbs. To get the A and S rank trophies, it was easier to achieve in the latter part of the game. So, don’t be like me. Just wait until you are further in the game. I started skipping after I got enough points. The artwork was good. However, I think each character had too little 2D images that they rotate through. The voice acting was impeccable as always. The game is in Japanese with English subtitles. The BGM was decent but not memorable. The QC for this game was really good. There were a few spelling mistakes but the least that I have seen in recent otomes. The translators took some liberty with the translation. As someone who had study Japanese, there were a few lines that I feel was slightly off. But the overall message was there. There wasn’t much in extras. You get the gallery, bgm, movies and hunting black butterfly mini-game. This was the first otome game I have played that I am not interested in replaying. That was the main reason I gave the game 4 stars. The plot may have been good but it was not worth going back for more. However, as an otome fan, this is worth adding to your collection. If you are not an otome fan, I would not recommend it. In conclusion, “Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly” has a good story, with decent characters and 40+ hours of gameplay. Definitely worth the purchase. ... show more

  • beautiful horror otome
I loved every minute of it. Beautiful, richly detailed visuals and haunting music help give this game a surreal sense of dread. Isolation and danger hang over the mansion the story is set in, but without gore, jumpscares, and the MC getting assaulted, it's a pleasantly mild horror experience. There are a lot of sweet moments between all of the characters, mostly in the extra scenes, but it's an undeniably tragic story no matter what. The length to finishing the game completely felt about right at 24 or so hours. The characters are all sympathetic, even if they might not be likeable to the player. It doesn't minimize the themes it goes for or make them perfectly fixed in the end. What makes this a little less than five stars (but I wouldn't lower it to four): there's unnecessary homophobia in a few scenes of the game (played for laughs), and the localization is careless. I've seen Much Worse, but I've also seen Much Better. One of the final endings (involving takuya) is riddled with errors, and it really took from the experience. so, wonderful: - sympathetic characters - commitment to the tragic themes it presents - beautiful music and visuals (really standing out on the vita screen) - a mild horror experience relying on dread Less Great: - localization is noticeably careless (but not the worst) - unnecessary homophobic comments for laughs Might Have Been My Fault: - I recommend making multiple different saves despite the auto-save system, because I got stuck a few times with a non-functional flowchart. It was fixed each time by going to a different save, without overriding anything. I got a cheap used copy and it worked great, so don't be afraid to just try it at a lower price! ... show more

  • AMAZING Otome Game
Wow, I am in love with this game. It has become my 2nd favorite otome of all time. Just a heads up though, this game is very bittersweet and at times very sad and depressing. If you want an otome that constantly makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, this isn't the game for you. Anyways, here are some of my pros and cons: PROS: - Intriguing mystery story - Great twists - Beautiful art and music - Like-able characters (seriously, I love them all) with great designs - Great protagonist - Amazing voice acting - The protagonist actually has voice acting! (But, it can be disabled if you don't want it.) - The game is constantly using many effects like: moving the camera around, screen shakes, moving the character sprites all over the place, etc. Which, in my opinion, makes the characters feel much more lively. (It's a bit hard to explain, but you'll understand what i mean once you play the game.) - There's a flowchart system which makes getting all the endings super easy. CONS: - Technically, there's only 1 bad ending in the game (I like my bad ends!) But, some of the endings are so sad to where they feel like bad endings, so that makes up for it a bit I guess. - I'm not a fan of the Butterfly Hunt mini-game. I found it annoying to play. - There's little romance. (The game heavily favors story over romance.) But, there's still a LOT of cute moments. - Some translation errors here and there, but it didn't bother me much Overall, I love this game! If you like dark/sad otome games and don't mind that it focuses more on story than romance, then I recommend you check it out. ... show more
