  • Big upgrade from SA2i
The goto function is a game changer.

  • Absolutely amazing! Well worth it.
This go-to mount is incredible. Very easy to polar align with the SynScan app and built-in polar scope. App works flawlessly. Very easy to set up and get balanced. No issues with target aligning or tracking. Able to do 3 minute unguided images no problem. At on a guide camera and scope, and I can easy go 5+ minutes. This is a great travel scope, or for someone just starting out. Use this with both my DSLR and lenses, as well as ASI533MC Pro and RedCat 51 II scope. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • As good as you would expect!
Its a great mount just make sure you understand the limitations. I thought the light in the scope was not functioning when testing but you just need to be in the dark to see it. What a great mount!

  • Much more precise than my previous star adventurer
It was great, 300mm 1min exposure I get about 90% or more frames with sharp stars, compared to 60% with my previous star adventurer v1 (that one also seems to be below what others described) Goto precision is great too. It also feels substantially more rigid and less backlash than the star adventurer. ... show more

  • Did not work out of the box
It is a great idea but either mine had some bugs or it just doesn't work as intended. It would never 3 star align and the app was very buggy for me. I'm going to try the iOptron now and see if it works for me.

  • I wanted to like this mount, but...
I wanted to like the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer GTi, I really did. It might be fine if all you wish to do is simple goto operations and unguided visual work, or unguided astrophotography with exposures < 60 seconds (with ~400mm optic). But trying to use the Synscan App Driver to get the SA GTi connected with PHD2 and APT for guided astrophotography has been nothing more than a repetitious exercise in frustration. The mount intermittently disconnects whether using Wifi or USB. And worse, it seems that running the Synscan App Driver causes the guide camera to disconnect unexpectedly from PHD2 too. I can't say with 100% certainty that the Syncan App Driver is the culprit, but I've never experienced the guide camera disconnecting unless the Syncan App Driver was running in the background. Every time I think I have it working satisfactorily, I get out under the stars and the trouble starts. I get everything working at home, but then I spend the first hour or more of my (limited) observing time connecting, disconnecting, swearing, stopping and restarting SynScan Pro, APT and PHD2, swearing some more, upgrading software, reverting software to previous the version, swearing again, enjoying a bourbon and a cigar to settle myself, rebooting the laptop, swapping cables and ports, only to give up in frustration and go home. Oh well, at least the bourbon and cigar were enjoyable. On the couple of occasions that I was able to get all the ducks in a row for a while, I found that the RA tracking is pretty darned good, but the Dec tracking is simply horrid. I may just need to tweak polar alignment and dial in PHD2 parameters, but I've never been able to get everything working long enough to do it! Mechanically, the SA GTi seems well made enough with minimal backlash and tracking that's plenty acceptable for visual work or short unguided exposures. Unguided exposures of 60 seconds with a 70mm/f6 APO show very little or no trailing. That's not bad at all for unguided astrophotography. The tripod on the other hand is rather disappointing. Even with all the hardware tightened as much as I dare, there's a LOT of sloppy movement between the tripod hub and the legs. When I have the time, I'll try fashioning some shims from brass sheet or UHMWPE plastic. If I were still within the return window, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to ship it back. But now I appear to be stuck with it and will have to find some solutions or use it as a coat rack. All in all I'd give the SA GTi itself a solid B, the tripod a C- and the software a big fat F. Sadly I couldn't recommend this set up to anyone. Update: I've now jettisoned the Synscan App Driver and instead am using the ASCOM HE5/6 drivers. It seems to be working; I can get PHD2, Stellarium and APT to connect - and stay connected. I hope to get some clear weather this weekend to give it run under the stars. ... show more
