  • Fit Herman Miller 1999 Aleron
Cylinder fit my Aleron chair just fine. Had to adjust the cable set screw for chair to rise and fall.

  • Excellent replacement cylinder
I tried to get the old cylinder out with a pair of Channel Locks and a cheater bar, but the original cylinder would not budge. Safe yourself the time and frustration and buy a 24" Pipe Wrench. Once you do, this cylinder is a great replacement for an old, worn out Aeron cylinder.

  • Solid replacement, but instructions are incorrect
As stated in other reviews, the instructions that come with the cylinder are not correct. The two screws on the side of the chair are just there to hold on a plastic cover. They adjust nothing. If you are having issues with the chair not adjusting when you engage the lever, or if the chair lifts backs up when you're not sitting in it, you will need to do the following (on an Aeron Classic). Once you have removed the old cylinder: 1. Turn the chair over and unscrew the single set screw on the large plastic housing under the seat. 2. Gently separate the two plastic pieces 3. On the underside (closest to the seat) locate the screw in the center that pushes down when you engage the height adjustment 4. Use a 5/32 allen wrench (hex key) to adjust the height of that screw up/down until it marries nicely with the new cylinder There should be no need to shave down the button on the new cylinder or do any other hacks to make the replacement work. As far as removing the old cylinder, you DO need a pipe wrench, but I was able to remove the old one with an 8" pipe wrench with a 3' galvanized pipe stuck on the handle for extra leverage. It does take some muscle and patience, especially for older chairs. The cylinder itself is well made, sturdy, and fits the Aeron Classic perfectly. It is definitely taller than the EM by several inches, so shorter people beware. ... show more

  • MAKES THE CHAIR MUCH TALLER
I was in denial for the longest time about how much taller the chair was. My feet didn't really touch the ground anymore so it was causing a LOT of extra strain on my back. I'm 5'9" and if I'm in socks/bare feet it was way too high. I got the right size from a different merchant and OMG it's like heaven again. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got the right size... make sure you acknowledge the chair is going up about 2" if you get this thing. ... show more

  • it fits my herman miller aeron
NO JOKE you need a 24 inch pipe wrench to get the old one off!!!!...i tried many things before breaking down and buying the 12 dollar pipe wrench at harbor freight......channel locks...NO....vise grips....NO....die grinding flat spots and trying the biggest wrench i have with a pipe on it....NO IT WILL NOT WORK......YOU NEED THE PIPE WRENCH!!! or a slot on press(like the one, other cylinder makers included with the new cylinder) ....note you should NEVER bang on the bottom of the chair mount (where the chair meets the shaft, ONLY bang on the base that has wheels to separate that part and only bang on that AFTER you have the chair part off the top of the shaft).....WD40 is your friend....flip the chair over and spray right where the shaft meets the chair base before trying to remove it. after you get the new cylinder in......the instructions tell you to loosen the screws where the adjustment handle is.....do NOT do this....look up what type of chair you have and adjust it the right way....for mine i have the center pin set up.....all i had to do was pop the top off the chair mount and unscrew a Allen key to make the chair stay at a set height and work when the adjustment handle was pulled....i tried loosing the screws like the instructions said and it did NOTHING.....it does so little that i had forgotten to tighten them up before adjusting the screw on the base and after i remembered, screwing them back in i did not have to readjust the center screw at all..... this cylinder is HIGHER then the stock one....me being 6'8 this is the frist time my herman miller is as high as i need!!!! LOVE IT!!! but it drops to the same low spot as the old one so you will be able to get the height you had out of it.... your biggest problem will be getting the old off.....putting the new one on is a joke ... show more

  • Perfect replacement for my Aeron chair
A pipe wrench was required to remove the old cylinder and the overall replacement was pretty easy.

  • $30 replacement to a $1000 chair !
A quick cheap fix to a super expensive chair. Removing the old post wont be an issue as long as you use a pipe wrench. The replacement took one second to drop back in. I did remove the seat prior incase it needed any adjustments, which was a very small turn of the allen bolt. Now I have a new chair again! We’ll see if theres any issues, but this replacement seems solid. ... show more
