It was easy to put together. I didn't read the instructions, so after I put it together, I had to pull it apart and wrap the cord down around the handle pipe to the detector. Since it's winter, it has been used twice. Both times I found something, a big old nail and some tin siding. There are distinct different tones for metal types, which I will have to learn to distinquish. The directions are pretty good, teaching how to set the different screens for different types of searches. ... show more

For this kind of money and gives you everything you need to get started. And it works pretty good. However I can’t get the sound to work right in the headset. I wish I had a better way of doing that but I don’t really have time to explore it either. Either way I’m happy with it I suppose. There were some great videos online to teach how to use it. I think it’s pretty lightweight to carry around. Now that we are using it. I have decided that I need to orange another pinpoint for the kids. This is a great way to have some family time and get up and moving. This is my first metal detector. I have only used it a few times so I am still learning to tell the difference between metals, tones and settings. I changed my original review the Garret ace 400 is JUNK do not waste your money as I did its easy to use but I think I would have better luck with a $49.00 one from Walmart than this machine. I finely got to go out in my yard and test it out in a test plot with a variety of metals and coins first of all I found a melted piece of aluminum that on the detector said it was gold, second, the copper penny I had it did not even register it then to top it all off I sat the machine down with the coil 3 feet in the air facing up towards the sky and unless there is metal in the air its a messed up machine, now then two things come to mind First its got bad batteries will get my rechargeable ones fully charged and try again if it's still the same thing than the machine is messed up. will keep you posted. ... show more
