  • Ease of use
Easy to use. Like the app to Bluetooth to your phone. Awesome how it shows property lines and property owners.

  • Amazing off-road companion.
If you can get past the high price of this device, you are left with an incredible GPS. The build quality is top notch, the screen is nice and bright and easily viewable in direct sunlight. The navigation is what we come to expect from Garmin, which is top tier, and I love that I can download satellite imagery. It seamlessly connects with my phone and will display notifications which is really great. I can also control my music on my helmet headset which is nice. I also highly recommend getting the handlebar controller. I installed it on my Can-Am Outlander ATV and its been a game changer in exploring new areas that I've never been to. ... show more

  • Garbage
Piece of garbage! Bought it and it appeared great. Turned it on, no issues. Turned it off, a week later tried to turn it back on and it doesn't work...at all. Won't even turn on. Irritating that it's for a trip and now I need to return it when never even had the chance to use it. If I could give it a negative star and throw it through the CEO window of the company, I would. ... show more

  • Nice Installation
So far so good. I got the Tread 2 for the Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Maps. They are my nemesis, but I've got to deal with them. The unit is just installed, and I'm not ready to comment on using it yet. I did want to post up that this comes with a detachable mount based on 1 inch balls. You can remove the GPS while leaving the mount in place like the Zumo. Using an included C clamp, short bar, and the mount, it attached nicely to my handlebars. Other 1" ball mount arrangements would also work. The power connection includes a C type USB accessory outlet. I'm ambivalent about that since you can't seem to get enough of those, but it does clutter up the handlebar wiring. I'm now waiting for a connector that adapts to a "while running" power lead on my Can Am Canyon. Until then, it's running off battery. ... show more

  • Solid GPS Choice
I’ve owned a lot of GPS units over the last twenty plus years. I’ve also run Gaia extensively on an iPad. This is by far the best GPS I’ve ever owned/used. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. I use it in my truck for travel and off road, and on my bike for travel. Very good unit.

  • Exactly what I was looking for!
I have tried several different gps units including a tablet and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I run VV Mapping snowmobile and ORV maps for Michigan and it is as simple as inserting the micro and card in the Tread 2 and selecting the appropriate VV Map. Now I know exactly where I am at which is the battle. ... show more

  • WATERPROOF, RUGGED, BUT HAS ISSUES
First of all it does work as a GPS. BUT, if I wanted just a simple GPS I could have saved hundreds of dollars and purchased such a product. Using satellite view is by far the easiest way to navigate since you can quickly identify landmarks such as open fields, heavily wooded areas, structures, and more. So the most significant issue for me has been the inability to load, and later, alter satellite views of the different areas I travel to. The on board memory only allows relatively small sections to be loaded (slowly at that) so if you want to ride your sled or side-by-side on a multi day ride across a large swath of state then removing previous downloads are required to load new areas. Now, that's a pain but not nearly as frustrating as when the GPS stops the download at 74% then refuses to continue on or let you cancel the download and start over with maybe a smaller area to upload. So the Satellite subscription at this point is useless. Didn't see anything addressing this on Garmin's Support website so when the sleding season is over, I'll try to do a complete reset of the GPS and try again. Hopefully I can download my saved landmarks from the computer but all this is time consuming and shouldn't be necessary. Other annoyances: Not intuitive or instructions on saving downloaded Satellite images to SD card to free up memory. No instructions and seemingly no possibility of customizing main screen (easy to customize some sub menus). Not very glove friendly screen. No quick method to adjust screen brightness. Auto adjust doesn't dim enough for me at night. No cable and tube mount package offerings by Garmin to allow GPS to be simply clicked into another vehicle. Yes, we ride sleds side-by-sides here on same day sometimes. Sure, it looks possible to search for separate mounts and cabling and piece them together (keeping in mind the necessary proprietary electrical connection) - BUT WHY. Make a kit. Better yet, make a kit that doesn't cost $100. Not a complete list off the top of my head but some of my more major gripes. This GPS is not ready for prime time. As it is, it's overpriced and under supported. Sure, you could probably Google issues, watch YouTube videos, or join a chat group to address the issues I've had. But why should the consumer, that's paying good money, beta test a purchased item? If you can go without downloading and using satellite views, customizing the screen is not a big deal, and if your placement is out of line of sight then this GPS works fine. It hasn't stranded me in three feet of snow in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, so it does seem waterproof and rugged. I gave it two stars for serving as a GPS in adverse conditions. And, if you don't care to use it in multiple vehicles, all the better. But I think it's overpriced for what Garmin claims it should do and ease of correcting issues. ... show more
