  • Excellent Chipper
It's a beast! I bought this thing a year ago, used it heavily last year and this year and I'm completely satisfied with it. Only issue I had was self-inflicted - I didn't add any fuel stabilizer to it before winter storage, so had to use some ether to start it the first two times when spring came, after that, it's back to pull once and you're off and chipping away. It's very stable while chipping, no complaints on it so far, stays sharp, works great, I'm a smaller sized person, so I'm also glad it's not too heavy to wheel around the property when I create my wood piles for the chipper. ... show more

  • Get it!
Phenomenal, instructions aren't the best, but use the pictures for assembly. Make sure you fill it with enough oil or it will never start due to a safety feature, "I pulled on the thing for 20 minutes until i found that little clue in the manual , but that is user error." It did what it was designed to do which is not to run with low oil. Past those two issues it really chewed some branches 3 inch for sure! ... show more

  • Very impressive machine
This is a great chipper. It's a small unit so it doesn't take up alot of space and the chute removes easily for storage. This is actually built by another company and the parts are readily available. The 7 hp engine is strong and smooth running, make sure to get a quart of 10-40 oil because of course it's not included. You will use 1/2 quart to fill the engine and save the other half for the first oil change after 5 hour break in. This is not a shredder per say, so you're not going to be dumping leaves in it. I've used mine 6 hours now without any problems except after shutting off once a small piece of wood that was floating while running settled in the cutting chamber and when I went to restart the engine it felt locked up but looking down the chute I noticed the stick blocking the blade. Something to keep in the back of your mind. As with all chippers, wear protective gear and hearing protection. As be mindful of the engine rpms as you feed, never load so fast that you stall the engine that will get you a broken crankshaft quickly. Remember this is a homeowner unit not a tree service commercial unit. I assembled this in about 20 minutes. It chips very well but will pass tiny sticks through. The blades are robust and easy to change, sharpened on both sides so you can simply flip them over the first time. The last 2 assembly fastener bags are for changing and setting the clearance of the blades. I highly recommend this unit if you are looking for a low cost, good quality chipper. ... show more

  • WOW, great little chipper
GREAT machine! The assembly directions are pretty lame. Pictures were vague. But if you look at the completed picture you'll figure it out. As for the complaints about the odd oil weight; LOOK/READ the oil viscosity chart! (5w30 is the coldest weather oil...15w40 middle.... straight 30 for warmest weather. SO,10w30 or 10w40 can therefore be used in the same range as the 15w40.) Both those weights are available EVERYWHERE. I was totally surprised this engine started on only ONE pull on the cord. For its first start up out of the box. (Don't need to throw your shoulder out either... Very easy pull starts it right up! It really chips great pieces come out 1/4"-3/4". It DOES work great for fresh cut or old dry branches. This handles 3" DIAMETER no problem. (Complainers need to know the difference between DIAMETER 3" and across measurements) The inches scale sticker I'm sure confuses the not so bright people. The chipper self feeds once it grabs the sticks and branches going in. All in all this is a very robust chipper for its size. I certainly didn't expect it to perform so well. Great value. • Best small chipper for the money
The GardenBeaut R30 chipper is a top choice for small lots (10,000 sq. feet or less) due to its excellent performance and low cost. It's designed specifically for chipping woody (with emphasis) branches, not shredding soft green vegetation (such as vines) or leaves. If soft green vegetation or leaves are dumped into the hopper, clogging might result. I chose this chipper due to its generous throat size. This chipper has one of the largest throat openings for a small chipper. The throat is the narrowest constriction point at the bottom of the funnel before wood branches meet the blades. The throat on the GardenBeaut R30 is a very generous 4.75"x5.5". The large throat allows shrubs, gnarly tree branches, and branches with many side branches sticking out to easily feed through the chipper throat. The GardenBeaut R30 offers not just superior performance but also unmatched convenience. With no belts or clutches to replace, it's a direct drive chipper with double-sided blades. Its self-feeding action is remarkably efficient, and starting it is a breeze, thanks to the light mass of the drum. Its portability is a bonus, with its weight and compactness making it easy to move around. The hinged funnel can pivot up, minimizing storage space and adding to its user-friendly design. Some minor annoyances: The hopper is hinged and mates with the chipping chamber, but the hopper is not aligned perfectly with the chipping chamber. As a result, a small unintended lip at the junction between the hopper and the chipping chamber causes tree branches to constantly get caught at the lip, requiring jiggling to get past that lip. Additionally, there's an approximately 1" wide internal lip (or flange) all the way around the throat, preventing branches from smoothly feeding into the chipping blades. It makes no sense to have those wide lips at the throat preventing branches from being fed smoothly into the chipping chamber. Those lips are a very HUGE annoyance. It can easily handle hardwood up to 2" in diameter. I wouldn't feed a 3" trunk into it unless it's very soft wood. For 2" tree branches or larger, the best way to feed it is not to allow the blades to self-feed the branch too aggressively because doing so could stall the engine. Instead, let the blades chew a large branch several inches in length at a time while holding back the branch with your hands. Then, push the branch down and let the blades chew another few inches. Repeat this process until the large branch is chipped all the way. The annoyance with the lips in the hopper aside, I still highly recommend this chipper for small lots up to 10,000 sq. ft. ... show more
