This is a wonderful tiller for an electric one. My last little tiller was gas powered, and it had the same problems I've seen others here write about the carburetor. After winter storage, it was about impossible to get it to start. When it worked, I could get down to 2 feet with it after doubling down. All the way to my hard pan in Houston (which is really only 18 inches). This one can probably do that, but I just tried it out for starts, and it went down over 6 inches easily. I only started with about a 10 by 5 foot area. I tilled the whole thing 6 inches deep in about 10 minutes. Before this came in the mail, I turned over the area next to it, about the same size, with a shovel -- the old fashioned way of brute force. That took me almost an hour. So, 10 minutes compared to an hour. Not bad. Installation instructions are completely useless. The most egregious thing is pictures with numbers for the parts. However, none of the parts have any labels on them. The first problem I had was attaching the U-shaped handle to the bottom of the tiller. It's not really clear how exactly to insert the U-shaped fastener to the pipe. Maybe I was over-thinking it, which I am very guilty of many times, and after finally getting it right, I think that I did in fact over-think this thing at first. It is a pretty simple fit. You just connect the U-shaped connector into the inside of the handle and screw the handle down. Pretty simple. I should have seen that, but they should have had a better manual. I could write them a good manual better than that one. The other problem I had was attaching the wheel section. I attached it underneath, which looked normal. Then, when I went out to till, it did not go down more than an inch. My wife helped me, and it turns out that instead of attaching it to the underside, I needed to attach it to the outside. This thing is not friendly for ratchets or any other thing except for simple pliers. This wheel assembly is attached with just two simple bolts and nuts, but getting to them is really hard with a ratchet. I finally tightened them with various pliers. Once I fixed this wheel assembly, it worked fine. Like I said, it went down to at least 6 inches, but I am sure that I can go down deeper with this tiller. Great product.

I bought this when a elderly friend of mine asked me if i could til a garden spot in her yard and initially I thought that I could turn the soil by hand but I soon realized that my back isn't going to be able to handle it. This is fairly easy to put together out of the box and it works great. What would have took me a couple of laborious back aching hours now will take me under a half an hour. I would highly recommend this tiller to anybody that has small tilling jobs to do in the yard. I may not use it more than a couple of times a year but just having it brings me a peace of mind knowing I dont have to break my back preparing the ground for a garden from year to year. It is light weight weighing maybe 25 lbs and easy to use and move around. The price is great for what you get and the quality is great and should last for many years so that it can be used for small to medium jobs around the yard. I am very happy with my purchase.

Very easy to put together. Worked well, simply plug in, engage safety latch and go. For the price it worked very well in my small garden area. My neighbor even borrowed it and loved it. For all those reasons I gave 5 stars. HOWEVER, in the description it references having a safety mechanism, that it will shut off if you hit a rock, branch, etc. which is NOT true. The only way this shuts off is if you release the safety trigger. I found out the hard way. When using I hit a branch and the machine actually jumped upright in a twisting motion flying into some shrubs next to my garden area, cutting into the shrubs. For that reason I would not let an un-experienced person use the tiller. Initially I was going to return for that reason but none of the other tillers in this price range mentioned having an auto-stop feature so I just chalked it up to being a description error by the seller.

Aside from having to be careful about keeping the cord out of the way, this corded electric roto-tiller is a beast. I had to loosen up a large area of new topsoil before seeding grass. I had spread the topsoil last fall, and it compacted and hardened over the winter. There were also some areas of turf which needed to be ground up. The machine worked flawlessly, and just kept working, for hours over several days. Jammed up with a rock now and then, but the motor did not burn out. I kept thinking, “this thing won’t make it through the end of this project,” but it did, and is still in very good condition. It works best by pulling it backwards, walking backwards. The only reason I marked it down from 5 to 4 stars is because of the attention needed and necessity to keep the cord out of the way, compared to gasoline or cordless models.

So far extremely happy! Have had gas powered tillers for years, finally sick of trying to start it. It always involved cleaning carburetor, getting neighbor involved that knows small engine (which I don’t), etc. Lots of effort twice a year, last year I didn’t even bother with it in the Fall. Pros and cons: It’s not going to dig as deep as a gas one, how could it? It’s lightweight compared to heavy gas tillers. It takes longer particularly in hard dry soil cause you’ll have to go over it couple times, it’ll bounce. BUT—you spent no time or money (in gas) trying to start it. And it’s so much easier to use, you won’t care if that it took longer cause you won’t be wore out trying to manipulate a heavy machine. No, because it’s electric it’s not a “real” tiller. At 64 I no longer care. Only interested in results and how much I invested for those results. Like other tillers, you find dragging it backwards works best. You’ll only use the wheels down position when moving it, not using it. Maybe wear goggles, this thing throws rocks big time! If the ground is extremely dry and hard, spray it with water couple hours before you till. It helps. If it doesn’t perform within next few years I’ll update review. But initially, 5 stars all the way!
