I don't know why I didn't buy these years ago. They fit perfectly and work like a charm. Recommend to anyone who wants to turn their 5 gallon buckets into big storage jars. Also fits 3 and 7 gallon buckets with the same opening diameter. I'm ordering a couple more after writing this review.

I picked up a couple cheap 5 gallon buckets from Menards. I thought the ring to snap on bucket was too small. Well with a good deal of force it popped on. Not something a weak person will be able to put on. Very nice tight fit. Doubt if it will ever come off. Thread on lid has a fine thread, but once installed it seals nice. My son gave me a 50 lb bag of popcorn. (yes 50 Lbs) Once bag opened it stored very nice in a couple buckets. I was told by a friend they are not water tight. It looks like they should be, but hard to say if 100% water tight. A little expensive for $12 or more a lid. But would buy again. ... show more

We purchased this for our water bucket for our chickens. I was able to pop the ring on the rim within about 5 minutes. It was fairly easy, but did give some resistance as it does fit very tight. The lid itself unscrews easily to refill the bucket as needed.

I bought them to seal moisture out of five gallon buckets that I used to store my pellets I use in my smoker! They are easy to open, and have never let moisture in. I leave the buckets outside and even in the rain, not one drop has gotten in!

Five years ago, I bought one of these to use on a new bucket and it holds compost, which I take from my apartment out to my parents' yard occasionally where they have composting. I also got one for my parents. My parents' lid got a crack in it, dead center, 2-3 years in, so I took their lid, which is nicely interchangeable. I taped over the crack and have been using it relatively well. I would say that the screwtop design is okay, but I find I have to clean it regularly to make sure it screws well. It can get quite hard to screw open or closed if it gets wet. Still, for 3-5 years, that's a decent price and quality of product when it's just plastic. Worth your money. Just don't expect it to last super long. You'll eventually need to replace it, like all the cheap crap in our civilization at this point. 3-5 years is pretty respectable though. ... show more

    • Great Lids!
I bought two of these to use in composting. I put daily compostable waste in a tall square plastic container with tight sealing lid, that's probably about a gallon in size. When that fills up, I dump it into one of the buckets. When a bucket fills up I start filling the second, when the second gets full, there's a bit more room in the first (rotted things squeeze together). When both are full, I go and dump them into my compost pile burying them at the bottom of a bunch of mulch (free in city of Los Angeles). The really good thing is that because the lids seal tight, I never get flies or stench from this thing just outside my back door. The buckets are funky and probably stained but I don't mind cause they are always sealed shut. The lids are sturdy and seal very well. I bought five gallon buckets at Home Depot, the white ones are food safe and marked as such, the orange aren't. Lowe's probably also carries but HD is much closer to my house. So all in all, these are really nice bucket lids and fit standard 5 gallon buckets quite well. BTW, my original intent was to use one for compost and one for food storage but due to me being a procrastinator, I really need the second bucket to give me more time between food waste burials. ... show more

I put a thin layer of vegetable oil on the inside of the rim and used a mallet hammer and the lid snapped right on. It works fantastic. Fantastic idea. Makes getting the buckets open so much easier now. I would recommend anyone to buy these lid's.

These lids are great for a often used storage buckets. The rim takes a little force to snap onto the bucket, but the cover is easily used with it large hand grips.
