  • Our "grand experiment" EXCEEDED our expectations!! READ HOW WE MADE THIS WORK SO WELL....
Material Type: Premium
UPDATED REVIEW 6/17/2025: I have upgraded my original review from 4 to 5 stars. Now that we are looking ahead to a full season of using this product, we are so glad we added this item to our pool. Eleven days ago we had to replace our above ground pool liner and have a water delivery to refill it. The water thermometer reading was 63 degrees. In the 10 days since then, we've had overcast days, partly sunny days and cool nighttime temps (mid-50s). We set up the solar collector and move it where it could receive maximum sun on it. Today the water temp was 81 degrees and it was wonderful! First time my husband was in the pool this early in the season....seriously! He does not swim when water temps are in the 70's. All the improvements listed below are actually working as we had dreamed. Yes, we keep the solar cover on each and every night to minimize evaporation and keep the warm temps. This really will extend our (Midwest) swim season and regulate temps during the heavy summer swim months. ORIGINAL REVIEW: FIRST OF ALL, I want to thank all of the reviewers who posted their positive and (many) negative experiences. We seriously took their input into account and adjusted our installation and expectations accordingly. Ultimately, we chose to add 1 of these solar panels to assist in improving the temp of our 18' dia. above-ground pool. We're not looking to consistently hit 84 degrees in our Midwest location. We want to eke out a few more days of swimming in early/late season and keep consistent comfortable swimming temps. We always keep a bubble solar cover on the pool when not in use. The panel itself was well packed and is a solid piece of equipment. We think this panel system has a lot of merit and that is why we chose to undertake this "grand experiment". We hope you find some of our suggestions helpful. WHAT WE CONSIDERED FOR OUR LOCATION: --Slower water movement through the solar panel should result in warmer temps coming from the output back into the pool...and it does appear to be working in theory. --We wanted to eliminate usage of our pool pump which would move too much water through the panel at a high speed. Also adding to higher utility bills. -We wanted to maximize our sun exposure on the panel due to tree cover and our pool's orientation, which led us to a moveable panel/utility pump installation. IMPROVEMENT #1: To alleviate the failed/broken legs issue many reported, we securely bungy-corded the panel to a sturdy (wheeled) hand truck which can be moved short distances to maximize the sun exposure. (The panel's legs are folded back and not used at all.) We then have the hand cart handle secured to our railing (bungy cord) which keeps the unit on an upright angle to take up less space on the pool decking while having maximum sun on it. IMPROVEMENT #2: We acquired a separate 1/4 HP utility pump (approx. 1200 GPH at 5' height) which sits at the bottom of the pool. In the process of plumbing the intake and output connections (lots of trial and error to step down to the panel's fitting) we also included a SHUT-OFF valve where we can control the speed/amount of water going into the panel. This pump is on an outdoor timer and currently runs 6 hrs. during the day with maximum sun exposure. RESULTS AFTER 1 WEEK: --I have been tracking pool temps at start and end times of the pump/solar panel and I see about a 1 degree rise each day (if lots of sunshine). It is July, so it is expected to start the pump day at somewhere near 76 degrees and end around 80 degrees. The real proof is when we open the pool at the end of May when there are more temp fluctuations. I will update this review next spring. --What does surprise me is that the water temp stays very consistent (77-80 degrees) even after inches of rainfall, cooler overnight temps and overcast days with little to no sunshine. ADDITIONAL NOTES: --The panel came with 2 bags of mostly useless, black plastic plumbing connectors. Depending on how you hook the panel(s) up, you may use some, or none of these pieces. --The 2 3 ft. long hoses are a joke. Trash them and get 1 longer length of hose to fit your installation/location. --The utility pump (water INTAKE to panel) we purchased is connected to a hose (13FT x 1" Suction Hose Kit) that is found on Amazon. This gives us plenty of flexibility to move the panel/cart short distances to access full sun. --We UNPLUG THE PUMP from the electrical timer when someone is in the pool. --Once we made a couple of trips to the hardware store to finalize our necessary connections, everything went together well and NO leaks were experienced. ... show more

  • produces very little heat, don't waste your $
Material Type: Premium
I have 2 directly in the sun for 8 -9 hours and I get very little heat. my pool is an in-ground about 10k gal. I have a varible pumb, thank goodness, and I run between it between 700-900 but might turn it down even more. My water comes out around 1 degree warmer. I have a solar cover as well. I would recommend saving your money and going with the flat panels that you can put on your roof or ground. I had 3 that I used for my pool in PA and it worked great. they have smaller tubes vs. the larger tunes on this one. assembly wasn't bad, ran I to the same issue as everyone about leaks. I went and purchase more clamps and I have 2 clamps per hose. seems to be working. I have a very small drip coming from one but that's ok to me, I'll mess with it another time. I did have to purchase a longer hose as well. so, again, my recommendation is don't buy, go with something else. Also, I live in Palm Bay FL so yes, I get plenty of sun. ... show more

  • Perfect for what it can do. Perfect for what it can do.
Material Type: Premium
This will be our second year using these. We bought two and they have held up exceptionally well. They do exactly as advertised, per the manufacturer's statements. We have a large pool and with two of these, they work moderately well. While it works in 75 degree outdoor temps, keeping the pool around 80°+, it's not going to make a huge difference when those temperatures get lower, so don't expect hot tub water. It's more likely to cause a 3 to 5 degree difference regardless of time of day or how long its been running. Rated it 5 stars because we knew going in, our pool was too large for these to make big changes, but they do work and they are very well made! You can even see dog feet prints on them and they never broke or cracked. It is 1: 32pm, the pool cover has been off for just over 24 hours, outdoor temperature is 75°, and the pool temperature is sitting at 79°. ... show more

  • Works great at boosting pool temperature
Material Type: Premium
We have a 27’ round, above ground pool so we purchased 3. Works great a boosting the temperature about 5 degrees. Some of the fittings were not effective and leaked, defeating the boost in temperature as we had to keep adding more water. My husband was able to buy some different fittings and repaired the issue. ... show more

  • Works to help heat pool depending on outside temperature Works to help heat pool depending on outside temperature
Material Type: Premium
I bought 5 of these and they do work but its not a complete miracle cure in regards to heating a large pool. It probably brought up the pool temp by 5 to 10 degrees, as mine is inground, and depending on outside temperature, wind and other factors that determine if stays worm or not? I also read about all the problems with leaks, and mine leaked too, but I found a way to solve this. You'll want to see my pictures. Picture 1 from Left to Right has a 5/8" pex w 3/4" male brass connector which I used to thread the plastic part they provided as seen in picture 2 laying on the blue towel. also instead of using silicon as many previously did, I used Gorrilla glue on all the threads inside and out. Although, I think the Silicon might have worked better, Gorilla glue only takes 2-3 hours to dry and was able to use it almost immediately (within that 2-3hour time) with no problems and no leaks as seen in pictures 4-6. Also I used 5/8 hose that you to fit onto the brass fitting in pic 4 that you can buy at Lowes for $20 for 200 ft. Picture 3 is how I threaded it and picture 4 shows how it looks when finished with glue dried. ALso the center connectors that connect one panel to the next one are short and wide (Picture 6) and leak the most. what I did here is I used a lot of teflon tape on the threads that connect directly to the panel and also heavily taped the location directly underneath where you can see the clamp is holding the hose in pic 6 to the plastic connector that you see in picture 2 . So where you see the clamp in picture 6 directly under this is where teflon is heavy. Again, if clamp is removed with hose, all you have a plastic fitting (as seen in pic 2) and its right on this fitting you have to put a heavy layer of teflon tape in order to build it up to the size of the hose in pic 6 so that once clamp is put on, you can tighten it without breaking clamp and also cure all the leaks. They could have made it easier but the folks that made the product, probably do not own their own pools and possibly don't use this product cuz if they did, I'm sure they wouldn't have sold these hoses knowing that they are gonna leak as much as they do. Unfortunately Lowes and home depot doesn't seem to carry anything that makes this process easier so sometimes one has to think outside the box to make things work. So if you buy this product Your either gonna need clear silicone or gorilla glue to make it work as I did. Mine doesn't leak at all and it was 105 degrees in the last few days and did well under stress. Also the reason I used a 5/8 hose is because my 1.5 Hp motor has a small spicket on the side to release water from pool. However the pressure is strong enough to push water from the 5/8 hose to all the panels without any problems. So thanks again for reading and hope this helps out. ... show more

  • May heat up the water…but wouldn’t buy again
Material Type: Premium
This product definitely seems to heat up the water. We purchased this on May 1st and we actually swimming this evening (May 11th) in 73 degree water in WV after a couple sunny 80 degree days. That being said, I would not buy this again. The threads for the hose connections are plastic. When we put it together the output side threads were stripped and we could t tighten the connection. You can see it in my photo. We sealed it with silicone and were able to stop the leaks. We set this up on an outdoor table and secured it loosely with a bungy cord. You can also see it’s no longer level. The plastic that the legs mount into is cracking. The bungy cord is 6ft and very loose. It didn’t really provide any pressure. I have had to build a small wooden stand to place under the back end. We’re only had it 10 days. Great concept but cheaply made and a poor design. I definitely would not recommend or purchase again for $200+. I gave it 2 stars because it does seem to heat up the water. If you get it, order some silicone at the same time and don’t rely on the legs… ... show more

  • solar heater
Material Type: Premium
I was very skeptical about this heater. a few days after I hooked it up the water temperature did warm up 4 to 5 degrees. we had a couple of really nice days later and the pool was actually up to 86 degrees. it usually only gets around 80 to 82 in the middle of July when its really hot here in vt. I put my hand under the water input and you could actually feel it was warm. I was very impressed. it's a lot of money for this solar heater but so far I'm happy with it. ... show more

  • Easy to install
Material Type: Premium
I was a little worried about this at first because I had a similar model before and it broke immediately. This one works great. It was so easy to install and does not leak. I live in a very windy area so it did blow around a couple times but I finally secured it to a very heavy table with cables and have no issues any more. Unfortunately I can't have it stand up as high as I would like since I had to use the cables. But in West Texas we have to make some compromises at times to deal with the ridiculous wind speeds. It also has done a great job of warming the pool. I installed a diverter so I can bypass it as summer gets here and we don't need the heat as much. Hopefully it will extend our swimming months as it stays hot during the day for a long time but the evenings cool off more in the fall. ... show more
