This ice machine is a little larger than the previous machines we have owned. This is the 3rd machine we have purchased, as we wear them out! They have been lasting around 3 years and just work their little hearts out until they just die. For the amount of time that they crank out ice, 9 cubes every six minutes, being turned on in the morning, working all day, for 3 years, these machines are well worth the price! As with all refrigerator type products it is important to allow the machine to sit upright for a period of 24 hours before being plugged it in. We received our machine packed in the shipping box on its side. I called and reported that to customer service so it would be documented if we had problems. Then we let it sit for 2 days. We have had no issues and it has worked flawlessly since being plugged in for the last 5 months and I expect it will continue to do so. Always let it sit unplugged after turning it on on its side when cleaning or moving, to allow the refrigerant to run back down into it's proper place. This has been a fantastic little machine. I had knee replacement surgery, so I was using a cold water circulating machine 8 times a day. My refrigerator couldn’t come close to keeping up with the ice demand for that machine. This ice maker we run from sun up to sun down and wouldn’t be able to use the cold water circulating machine on my knee as much without it. It just makes ice all day long. The product was received promptly and in excellent condition. Extremely user-friendly. Makes a basket of ice within 30 minutes or sooner. I actually forget I have it on. Very quiet unless dropping ice into the ice basket. Does not keep ice frozen for a long period of time, you must transfer it to your freezer or refrigerator ice maker. makes ice quickly. Not cubes but makes bullets which I expected. Ice is not clear which I also expected. Ice does seem to melt somewhat faster than ice made in a real fridge but I expected that as well. Overall machine makes little noise other than the fan which is not really very load and ice falling into the bin. I use it 2 or 3 days a week and it gets the job done. ... show more

    • This is my 3rd ice maker of this type.

My fridge doesn’t make ice so I NEED a countertop one. This is my 3rd one in three years. Both of the ones I bought were around the same price point, both broke within 18 months. This time I decided to buy a name brand and I sprung for the three year warranty this time too. Already I can say that the appearance and general quality of the unit is MUCH better. The lid is solid with an enclosed hinge (the other two were clear plastic and the plastic hinges were the first to break). The better door also seems to keep the ice from melting as fast when left in the bin. A lot of the other reviews mention the unit breaking quickly. In my experience, they all do when put in heavy use. I recommend getting the $20 warranty that carries replacement protection on any unit you decide on. It’s definitely cheaper than buying a new one every 12-18 months. I’m hoping that this name brand, better constructed unit does better. I’ll edit this review if/when it craps out on me. ... show more

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS. We bought 2 red ones as back ups to our black one that we had for almost 3 years. Our black one finally died and when we returned to work for this school year, we hooked up the 1st red one....for a little bit it worked fine but within 3 weeks, it had a chemical type taste to the ice. We thought because we had a power outage over the weekend that it fried it so we decided to trash it after much trouble shooting. Plugged the 2nd red ice maker in at the end of last week, worked fine as of last night before we went home, this morning the ice tastes chemically in this one as well. No issues with weather/ power or anything last night, no changes of operating, water, etc. This is a manufacturing issues for sure. 2 ice makers within a month of each other that were ordered together coming from the same batch is a company issue. They were unable to do anything for us as to support. No troubleshooting solutions, nothing. It is not worth the risk, skip on this one and look at another company. We are using our ice machine while camping. So nice to free up freezer space for other things. Ice cubes are made quickly and stay cold in ice cube maker.
