  • Foxwell NT510 Pro
To start with, I'm glad I chose this scanner. I looked at a lot of scanners, ranging in price from under $100 to over $12,000 (yes you read that right). I've been doing most of my own automotive work for a bit over 50 years so I know what I'm comfortable trying and what I'd rather leave to a shop. I looked at the BMW software, but that has far more functionality than what I need. Foxwell and Autel seem to be recommended on a lot of the BMW forums and tuning sites so I started paying more attention to those in my research. I wanted to be able to read and reset trouble codes, reset the oil life timer, and reset battery parameters when the time comes to replace the battery. That last one eliminated a lot of models from consideration. There are so many models with mostly the same functions that really not much sets any of them apart. So, why did I choose this one? Well, it's in my price range, it's fairly compact, it doesn't have Bluetooth, which I don't need. I'm quite comfortable using the cable for connecting to the car. Also, this one comes with a connector to test the battery and charging system. So it saved me $100 or so for a battery tester. It came with the BMW program pre-loaded and they pre-register it so you can update it and start using it right away and you can purchase the diagnostic programs for other vehicles and just load them onto it so you don't need any other scanners. When I sent a question to the vendor I had a comprehensive answer back in an hour, which is very impressive. Once plugged into the car's diagnostic port I let it find the VIN and it selected my car in a few seconds. From the main menu I found it quite easy to run a scan and it found 5 codes (did NOT see that coming) and displayed them with explanations of each. It was also very easy to clear the codes. For me this scanner is an excellent compromise between cost and functionality. If you want to recode control modules or reflash the ECU for performance then this isn't the scanner you want. But, if you're looking to do general maintenance and a few repairs yourself then I think this scanner would work well for you and I would recommend it. ... show more

  • Great Product. Bad shipping practice.
Fantastic tool, though a little overpriced in my opinion. Do be warned, if you by this, Amazon will make you sign for the package. I was depending on getting this package at a certain time, and did not receive it as a result of me not being home to sign for it. This was very frustrating. I am a Nurse and work chaotic hours. If the tool would have been delivered, I would have known not to drive my car to work resulting in me getting stranded. I implore Amazon to stop this practice unless a customer explicitly wants this. I had to call out of work just to wait all day for the package to come so I could sign for it. I am a on-call Nurse. This was not good. ... show more

  • BMW Essential
Great for registering your new battery, clearing and reading codes. Works well of you also have the Bimmer App OBD reader and work between both.

  • Research before you buy
Works awesome but some of the controls are a little funky. You’ll need to be a smart person with capabilities to read the values for certain items. I’ve been a technician for over 20 years and a lot of these functions have me using google. Many of the functions are not really user friendly for the backyard mechanic. ... show more

  • Coolant Pump Service
Update March 2, 2026: Foxwell responded and showed me where the coolant ventilation function is located. I raised my rating. I bought this for my 2018 X5 E-40 so that I could change the coolant pump and initiate the coolant pump service to air free the system. This unit does not have that capability. I’m gonna email the manufacturer to see if perhaps I’m missing it but otherwise I plan to return it. It’s a pretty important function, especially on the X5 because they’re known to have a coolant pump failure between 80 and 100,000 miles ... show more
