***UPDATE*** I put a particular hose (Apollo 6-ft L 3/4-in Hose Thread Inlet x 3/4-in Hose Thread Outlet PVC Washing Machine Fill Hose Item # 788164 Model # AFWMF6). DON'T PUT THESE ON. They significantly reduce your whole house's water pressure (as another reviewer stated, don't use "washing machine" hoses, which is what I mistakenly did). I will update after I replace those hoses to tell you the part number and prices of the new hoses. I bought this along with a "whole house" filter (Watts WH-LD Premier Whole House Filter System). Here's the parts you will need for SURE: (available at Lowe's; prices were what I paid, yours may vary) You'll need at least one, probably two adapters to get from the huge threaded ends, down to a regular "washer hose". On the left side, you'll need two of these. Item # 645647 Model # 119-16-12XCB P. Cost is $11.99 EACH. On the right side, you'll need at least two of these (four if you are buying the whole house filter mentioned above). Item # 645840 Model # HU22-12-12X P. Cost is $3.99 each You'll need a drain hose, EASTMAN 5/8-in x 1-ft Pvc Reinforced Braided Vinyl Tubing Item # 814321 Model # 98575, cost is $0.89 per foot. I bought 8' to make sure I had enough to get to the drain on the floor. You may want to put a 90 degree elbow to point it down the drain; I didn't need that for my situation. You will also need to grab a #8 hose clamp (Murray 2-Pack 7/16-in - 29/32-in Dia Stainless Steel Adjustable Clamps Item # 47670 Model # BCH8SS09P, a two pack is $1.98) Pipe tape (teflon): Blue Hawk 0.6-in x 43-ft Plumber's Tape Item # 456833 Model # 31430L So to recap, you'll need these parts: Two adapters, part 645647, $11.99 ea Two adapters, part 645840, $3.99 ea (four if you bought the "whole house filter). Section of hose, part 814321, $0.89 per foot. Hose clamps for above hose, part 47670, $1.98 for a two pack. Teflon tape, part 456833, $1.33 And salt. This system will take exactly six (40#) bags to start (it will be full, be careful). You can put five in just to be on the safe side. You'll need a wrench to tighten everything, along with your method(s) of piping into your house, etc. Save your receipts, you may end up returning/exchanging some stuff.     • This Fleck Water Softener Works Really Well

The softer was a fairly easy install with SharkBite 1" connectors since the plumbing and drain was already installed on my old system. System settings easily set up with the digital control. Very important to test your water for hardness levels to set your system up. You will need to know your gallon per day usage for setup as well. Instructions tell you how to estimate it, and then I adjusted levels based off tracking actual usage from the digital readout. The instructions that ship from American Water Solutions tell you to adjust certain settings and the rest were preset before shipment. I went through them all and found one preset to be wrong. I would download the full instruction manual off the net and do the same. For my household (metered usage), it provides soft water for a full 10 days before regen. Varies based on hardness. Our water is very bad with hardness level at 16 gpg. It puts our old system to shame. We could not be happier. ... show more

I purchased this water softener for a new house. I hired a plumber to install the system. He had never seen this brand but the installation instructions were included. What was NOT included was the instructions on how to use the system. I found a manual online and was able to download the instructions. The instructions really didn't do me much good so I ended up watching several Youtube videos. It is running and I think it is working. Soft water is a subjective thing. Is it the correct level of soft water? I may never know. I purchased this system to avoid getting locked into the water services that you pay a ton to have them dump salt into your tank. With those services, I would at least have confidence that the system is working correctly. ... show more

I ran into a couple plumbing issues when I was hooking this up, but it was my fault for trying to cheap-out at first. Do yourself a favor and don’t mess with the typical copper fitting with pipe threads. It will likely leak and the hassle isn’t worth saving a couple bucks. Buy water heater connectors, and use those to hook this up, and you’ll be done quickly! Once the plumbing portion is done, it’s quick to finalize the setup. Just enter the couple things needed on the controller and you’re all set to go. Just don’t forget to switch the bypass to run through the softener... it took me a day of wondering why my water wasn’t soft before I realized what had happened. Also, if you lose the hardness test strips that supposedly come with this (I couldn’t find them, but I probably lost them), it’s easy to find your approximate hardness with a couple minutes of searching online - water hardness is generally pretty consistent within a general location. Also, if you have a pool or aquarium water test kit, it probably has a hardness test included. I'm not a plumber by any stretch, and I was able to get this installed by myself in an afternoon. That said, you're going to need to make a trip (or two) to the hardware store for some parts/tools to make it happen. So be prepared to dish out some more money if you haven't already been doing some plumbing in your house. Still a great purchase, and it's been running like a top for nearly a year now. If you need some help with the instructions, YouTube has some good videos for installation as well as setting up the timer on the pump. ... show more
