Description

There are typically two sides to the beer coaster: "Alcohol is the anesthesia by which we endure the operation of life." -- George Bernard Shaw "Here's to alcohol, the rose colored glasses of life." -- F. Scott FitzgeraldDrink to feel nothing, or drink to feel something. Both are widely practiced. But both fall flat.As a Catholic, you want to live a full life, with intention and purpose. You think beer, wine, and liquor can be part of that, but you don't have an authentic way to approach alcoholic beverages, so you abstain or indulge. Either way, you come up empty. The fact is, most of us haven't been taught how to drink well.In Barstool Theology, Trevor Gundlach cracks open an entirely new way to talk about beer and exactly how it can be an effervescent part of a life well lived. He invites you to become a fellow barstool theologian, ready to discuss the theology of life, friendship, art, seasons, celebrations, and, yes, delicious craft beer.Barstool Theology does not lay down rules to follow but offers practical ideas to try. It is full of reflection, humor, analogies, ancient philosophy, and Instagram-worthy stories that open a new dialogue about drinking that is fresh, flavorful, and fun.So, pull up a barstool. Let's have a drink and talk. Read more

  • Great book with a ton of wisdom!
This book helped me enjoy alcohol more responsibly. It isn't preachy; instead it helps the reader be more mindful of how and why one drinks. Great read. I liked it so much that I bought 5 copies to give as gifts. The seller was nice enough to include a 6th copy for free 👍

  • Relevant and Relatable--be Responsible and Request this Riveting Read!
Regardless of age, religion, or background. this book is perfect for anyone who drinks alcohol. Everyone who reads Barstool Theology will walk away with plenty to digest and discuss with friends over a drink. Trevor (I'm sure he would insist every reader calls him by his first name) does well to outline the essential questions--what, who, where, when, why---that we often fail to ask about our drinking. If you have ever been to a Theology on Tap or any similar young-adult spiritual meet-up then I'm sure you will find this book right up your alley. Whether you enjoy beer, wine, or spirits I recommend you buy a few copies because this makes the perfect last-minute gift for your drinking buddies. If your crew reads this together (book club?!?) then I'm sure you will notice positive changes in your drinking habits, discussions, and spiritual life. Welcome to the good life--cheers! ... show more

  • Cheers to celebrations, friends, and the good life!
A delightful read for those who imbibe and even those who choose not to. The author takes the reader through practical/everyday occurrences, but delves further into the theology and philosophy of why we celebrate, friendships, and the good life. It’s already a recommendation to my own friends, family, and even strangers when talking about drinks and books to read. ... show more

  • Make every drink meaningful
This book dives into how a seemingly casual activity can be made into a meaningful life experience. Cheers to good theology.

  • This would make a GREAT college course!
I was happily surprised by this book! I'm not a beer drinker, although I do enjoy the occasional craft/microbrew. What I found in this book was a recipe for making lasting changes in my approach to life in general. While the book is geared towards college aged adults, there are many truths to be found here that apply to anyone looking for more in their relationships with others in a relaxed manner without the heavy-handedness that ordinary theological discussions sometimes lead to. It is light yet profound, frothy with depth and gives anyone the groundwork to change the way they see others, and the relationships that can develop. The best part? You have the control, if you have the desire, to open up and change your outlook and master the good life!!! Way to go, Trevor!!! ... show more

  • Drinking with Purpose
Barstool theology was a thought-provoking read that I would recommend to anyone that drinks alcohol or seeks deeper meaning in our human experiences. The author emphasizes quality over quantity, purpose over emptiness, and grace over sin. This book encouraged me to think about friendships of virtue, building a community around common appreciation, when I drink, and the great gift of celebration. Note: best enjoyed with your favorite brew. Cheers! ... show more

  • Finally someone delves into this topic...
In an age where millennials are increasingly disaffiliated with religion, Trevor Gundlach meets people where they are at. In a relatable manner, he shows how grabbing a drink with friends is intimately related with our faith journeys. I cannot recommend highly enough if you are one who desires to "find God in all things." ... show more
