I’ve been playing flat wounds for years and actually these are definitely worth it for the price. I mean I think they’re better than a lot of the bigger brands. Remember all the biggest brands ain’t the best mass manufactured but I even put them up against my labellas

Honestly wasn't expecting much from flatwounds that are $10-20 cheaper than most other brands, but I have to say, they aren't bad at all. Definitely on the brighter side than what I typically look for, I assume due to the fact that they are chromewound, but I am sure they will mellow a bit once they are broken in. But the most noticeable thing to me is the consistency in clarity and tone among all four strings. I put these on my Fender acoustic electric bass, and, in my experience, flatwounds usually suffer from a much more muffled or tonally dull quality on the E-string, but these don't at all. It sounds as expressive as all of the other strings. I imagine this might be because the guage of the E-string is lighter; .100, rather than the standard .105 or .110 of most other flats. Also, very partial to the black string wrap! Might just make these my new go-to strings! ... show more

These are not La Bellas or Thomastiks but for about half-price you're getting a very usable flatwound string. These are on the lighter gauge side so the added tension won't pull your neck too much, especially if you're replacing roundwounds. They have a nice treble to them without being overly bright and they certainly give you that thumpy fundamental you expect from a flatwound string. I put a set on an early '90s MIJ P-bass to get some 1960s-70s nostalgic tones. Think Kenny Edwards, Joe Osbourne, Donald 'Duck' Dunn, Chuck Rainey, Carol Kay, etc and you get the picture. I own too many basses so it's nice to find a decent set of bass strings for experimentation or just for refreshing an old set that won't break the bank. Btw, I've put these on two basses already and have had good luck - no dead or broken strings. I've also gigged with them a few times and they are holding up well. ... show more
