I split a lot of wood throughout the year, and this splitter does okay given its size and shape. The open half circle actually makes it a little more unstable than I'd expect. I'd say this is mainly suited for just kindling. I like to use it for the odd shaped pieces of wood that sometimes split unevenly due to knots or poor aim with the splitting maul. I wouldn't expect this to be a log splitter, so it is best used for just kindling. The hammer is okay and get the job done. The edge for splitting is fairly sharp, so that also works fairly well. Overall, this is an average kindling splitter. It's light weight and portable so it's great to take to different areas where you'd like to split some kindling. ... show more

This is the most useful log splitter I've had. The hammer is absolutely fantastic and despite its weight doesn't cause any problems with splitting the logs. The splitter itself doesn't look sharp and can feel pretty dull, but it splits like a dream. It even cuts through hidden knots with ease, which made things so much easier. ... show more

its a great concept and I bet if I had perfectly dry hard wood like oak etc it would be great, but on the Birch and Spruce we have here in Alaska, It kept jamming in the splitter no matter how hard you hit it. To be fair, none of my fire wood was completely dry so I just grabbed my trusty axe..

When it comes to swinging an ax and chopping wood, I have earned the nickname "lightning". Not because I do it fast, but rather because I never hit the same spot twice. This sturdy little log holder works wonderfully for someone like myself. Just set the log in there, give it a few taps with the provided hammer to set it and then all it takes is 1-3 good whacks to split it. Obviously the amount of swings you need to take will be dependent on the log you're splitting and the energy you provide with the hammer. It could be less or more for you. But for the cost, this is a sturdy little device that can really help if you're just looking to split some logs, but aren't the best at swinging an ax or hatchet. ... show more
