  • Excellent and easy to use and set up.
Funny story this grill was a magnet at camp everyone wanted to use it instead of what they had brought. It was quick and efficient. We were able to cook and serve many meals and one time. Just remember not to use metal utensils. Loved it and would highly recommend. Thank you Flame King !!

  • Nice griddle with one flaw
At $135 (as of the time of this review), this is a slightly lower cost alternative to the Blackstone griddle of the same size. This is my first stand alone griddle - I've used griddle plates on my Weber grill and my camp stove when camping - but I have friends and family that use them at cookouts, so I have a passing familiarity with the basics. First the positives about this Flame King griddle: It has a non-stick coating (don't use metal utensils!), so cleanup was a breeze ... as soon as it cooled, I sprayed a little water on it and it wiped clean in about 30 seconds with minimal effort. The built in wind screen works well, and the griddle plate is close enough to the burners that even in high winds (wind was blowing about 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph when I tested it) it maintains an even temperature. The 22 inch surface is more than enough room for a couple chicken breasts, a few burgers, and a tenderloin ... and I could have piled a ton more food on the griddle. With two heat zones you can dial in different temperatures ... I let one side cool to the lowest setting and let the burgers rest there while I cut the chicken breasts and let them cook on the hotter side along with the tenderloin (the result was all the food came off at the same time and the right temperature). Now for the negatives: The lighter doesn't work. At all. I honestly don't know why it's on the griddle, and I had to light the burners with a lighter. That's not a big deal, and it's not overly dangerous unless there's a ton of gas allowed to build up underneath the griddle plate. Some of the name brand griddle models come with a lid at a marginally higher price, whereas this model does not have a lid. This particular griddle is marketed as 'portable', which it is ... but only because it can be picked up and moved, not because it has any features that lend to 'portability' (such as a carrying case, some method of securing the griddle plate to the base during transit, etc.). One additional negative for me is that the propane nozzle is set up for a one pound propane canister, clearly for the purpose of making this appealing to campers or tailgaters. If that's the target audience then add the portability features! I don't intend to use it for that purpose - I have it on a grill cart next to my grill so I have different cooking options (and more space), and 1 pound canisters are costly. I do have an adapter to refill my 1 lb canisters from 20 lb tanks, but I just purchased a hose with a 1 lb connector that will connect my spare 20 lb tank to the griddle. Eventually I'll get a 2 way splitter to run from one tank so I am draining one tank at a time instead of two, but for now the 2 tank setup works. So ideally this would have some kind of adapter to allow for 1 lb or 20 lb tank hookup, a carrying case so it's truly 'portable', and if they're feeling generous, maybe the manufacturer could make a lid for it. As for the cooking, it's great and I have no complaints about that. I'm not affected by the lack of portability features, and not having a lid is no big deal (my griddle and grill are both under a covered deck out of the elements) so the 'negatives' are fairly insignificant for my purposes. So from that standpoint, this Flame King griddle is a good item to have for outdoor cooking. ... show more

  • The non stick griddle surface is nice feature and it gets HOT
The build quality of this griddles seems to be on par with others I have used. I guess being a table top model and only 22 inches makes this a portable griddle but it is quite heavy and there are no accessories that necessarily make it portable. I like that the griddle surface is non-stick. This makes cleanup way easier than the carbon steel griddles I have used and no need to worry about rust. Having two burners is nice so you can have a cool side and hot side. It does get very hot so it will easily sear steaks and make smash burgers. This has found a permanent spot on my patio, ... show more

  • the ignitor
I have to light it manually, which is dangerous. the ignitor never worked

  • EDITED! I didn't know how to work the ignitor, it works now!
MY EDIT: I am leaving my original review so everyone can see I was the ditz that didn't read the instructions properly. The igniter works just fine, if you use it properly. I am used to the old style where you push the button in, it clicks two pieces together up inside, and that sends an electrical charge down to the spark piece. Well, they have updated these things (its possible they updated them long ago and I'm just behind, but I'm not technologies biggest fan), so they now take a "AA" battery. Apparently you have to unscrew the button, slide the battery in, place the spring and thumb button back on, screw it back down, and you now get a spark when you push the button. I can tell you that just elevated this great cooking griddle even higher in my favorite cooking tools, and it was already pretty high up there. Original review: Alright, I like cooking on this thing. Lets just admit that right off. But the igniter button that you should press to send a spark to light the burners, it doesn't work. I took it apart, and I saw no obvious way to make it spark. It is supposed to spark in two different places at once. The instructions mention that if the igniter doesn't work, you can use the "included" matchstick holder/extender piece to stick a lit match between the griddle surface and the burners to light the burners. I cannot find a matchstick holder/extender. I swiped one from another propane item I have. Back to the cooking. I really like cooking on this griddle. I set one side to cooking temp, the other to low to hold the food until I am ready to serve it all. A little oil kept food from sticking on the very first cook, and has since then. The grease trap is large enough to hold a couple of cooks worth of grease. The surface is a little uneven, I can tell because when I run my scraper over the top to clean it, I find places the scraper leaves a bit behind. I am hoping with more uses, I can form a seasoning over the surface to take care of that. This is likely going to become one of my more frequent methods of cooking, even with the lighting problems. ... show more
