Please read this review carefully......... I bought this detector because my friend had the same brand and type about five (5) years ago and allowed me from time to time to borrow his. The one I bought a few weeks ago, had a defect in the mounting of the battery compartment lid and failed testing of the unit in the water due to water leaking into the battery compartment. Since this unit was going to be submerged in water, I immediately ship the unit back to Amazon using the same box that I received. I told Amazon as to why I'm returning it and request a refund. I purchased another detector unit from another source short time later using the same brand. After two weeks of my request for a refund, the refund money was back into my card account. (NO hassles from either Amazon or Fisher Labs.) Thanks to both for their swiftness in handling of my refund request and communications. Now Using an underwater metal detector means that the whole unit MUST be designed and constructed to do so. The unit will be ruined and thus voids any warranty and refund if the detector is NOT designed for underwater use. On the Fisher Labs 1280-x detector, read the included instructions thoroughly. DO NOT TRY to assemble this unit without understanding the instructions. Should you need to return this unit before the return policy expires, place and pack the unit back in the shipping box EXACTLY the way you found it. By doing so, it will save time on the receiver's end of looking to see what the problem was. ... show more

    • This is a great metal detector. Lots of fun to be had.
It is a little pricey for what you are getting but if you need one for underwater this is the way to go and that is why you are paying the price.
