    • Love It and Works Great (did modification for height)
It arrived with all parts and nothing was damaged. Assembly was not particularly challenging although I do agree that watching the video (it's on dailymotion.com) is helpful. The video is a bit dated because the parts are a little different in the video. I would say that there have been improvements on design so what you are assembling is easier and safer. The reflector hood was a little challenging but doable if you just take your time and have patience. My most challenging task came when I (like many others) shortened the height by cutting the pipe. I used a chop saw and then a drill to recreate the bolt holes. It took a rat tail file to finish the job since the holes were not quite exactly 90 degrees apart. Once I was done, I was pretty proud of myself because it was shorter but looked aesthetically exactly the same. I fired it up that very night and it extended our time on the patio by an hour and several people commented on how much they appreciated the heat. It's appearance is quite pleasant when it's on at night with the blue flame and the motion of the heat (there was a slight breeze) creating sort of red waves of heat. I haven't placed the cover on my pergola yet so had it under the structure to see how much heat would be generated above the reflector hood. I couldn't believe it...it literally wasn't even warm above it! I'll experiment a couple of more times but I'm pretty confident the cover is going to be just fine. I may drape an asbestos sheet or something...we'll see but I was extremely relieved that it didn't feel like chimney above it. Oh...it was easy to light and did start right away. At the beginning it did smoke a bit (that's normal) but very quickly got down to business and just poured out heat to everyone standing or sitting near it. I could feel the heat from about 8 feet away. Finally...I used pea gravel from Lowe's ($4/bag) and filled the bottom with that. Between the gravel and the custom shorter height, I'm not worried about the wind knocking it over. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase!! ... show more

Practical review. I did a significant amount of research before selecting this product for my husband's holiday gift. He loved it and put it together immediately as it was cool enough to use that evening. We live in FL where we have an outdoor living room on our Lanai with a flat screen and seating for 12. It does get cold about 3 months a year at night and we really enjoy entertaining outdoors. Assembly: Reality: It took my husband the "suit" about an 1-1/4 hour to put it together. Easy enough directions and all the parts were there. I certainly wasn't going to get in his way although I am the one with all the power tools! Use: Directions are sufficient enough for an 8th grader to start and use it. I will say that if you are nervous around fuels or fire, you may want to see a YouTube How To video just to be safe. Funny smell at first (completely normal) as the chemicals on the metals burn off. Flames on bottom of element and the the mesh gets red hot. When cooled, mesh is blackened (also normal). Opinion/Observations: I love that I can sit in a shirt on a 30 degree evening and feel comfortable. Heat radiates about 7 feet out from the center and is perfect for our needs. I found when there is a good breeze going, the heat shifts in that direction so you may need to adjust placment. Not to be used with wind. Still haven't gone through a tank of propane in a month so I will say that it is efficient. Love having this. This model has wheels for moving it.(I couldn't imagine getting a heater without them.) I am going to spray an extra coat of clear protection on all the enamel finished surfaces as I did read about rusting. I did not purchase the cover as we have this on a covered lanai and storage space that is dry. We will store this in the summertime covered with disposable plastic sheeting.
