Top Amazon Reviews

  • Unbeatable value, strong jets, great size and depth, good quality
Color: Gray Granite
We did a lot of research on spas before purchasing this one and I hope to add some useful information to the review string that is on Amazon. This spa appears to be part of the budget product line of Strong Spas of Northumberland, PA. Ours arrived at the local shipping hub a full week early, and I took a trailer there to load the spa into instead of having curbside delivery, which allowed me to get the spa closer to my ultimate location using the trailer. The unit was well-packaged with a foam wrap, and was banded to a pallet with an extra box for the spa cover and various instructions, filter and other materials. Though the manufacturer states the spa should not be rolled in the Q&A, the reality of our location was that it was the only way to move it onto position, and it worked quite well with no damage-- we did create a series of tracks and ramps with 2X12 boards to make sure it was rolling on a smooth surface, and kept the upper lip just off the track. The spa itself is quite light for its size, and my wife, our 11-year-old boy, and I were able to maneuver it quite easily even up a small grade. Once in place, we began filling it per the instructions, but we used the hot water from the laundry hookups and emptied the hot water heater into the hot tub multiple times during the day as we readied the space; by getting a head-start on heating in this way, we were able to start with already mostly hot water. Powering the control about 4 PM when the water was over the top jets and at 90 degrees, we were able to use the tub at 104 deg that same evening with it heating only on 110V. One seat is clearly the best with the most jets and sitting the lowest in the water: the one directly across from the steps. We'll call that the Queen Seat. 90 degrees to the right and left are the two good seats (a little higher) with 3 jets each. In between and next to the steps are the seats with a single jet. One question we always had with all of these rotationally-molded tubs was exactly how deep are you setting -- especially since the people in the photos always appear to be photoshopped into the tub. The deepest seats -- which includes the Queen seat directly across from the steps -- it's really over the shoulders of even a 6' tall man. The shallower seats are also acceptably deep for this tub, which is 36" tall. The jets, control, and heating are very strong and turbulent, and the water really moves, even around the seats with 1-3 jets. The spa comes with NO starter chemicals, and we scurried out and purchased a test kit (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00PZZFU3W/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_hkEKDbGPPDB5Q) and a Clorox "complete" 3-pack of spa chemicals which included bromine tablets, clarifier, and conditioner (which inexplicably isn't available on Amazon) from a big-box home improvement store; but you could save yourself some time by researching those things and have them delivered also. The pros for this tub are: - Strong jets and lots of them in the Queen seat. - Fine material and a quality cover - Great shipping and delivery (arriving in under 3 weeks from order, and a full week before scheduled) - Lightweight and maneuverable into our difficult location. - The foam insulation is complete from the tub to the outer shell for 3/4 of the pie of this tub (except the motor area) - Deep and large enough to be a great fit for our family of 4, with extra room. - Made in the USA, and parts are available via Strongspas web site. - Incredible value. You won't regret this tub, even if you can afford a more expensive one. Cons: - Control panel touch buttons are intermittently responsive. We believe ours may be bad out of the box and are contacting the manufacturer. - The VS control system for this spa is not upgradable to be wifi connected (they have an upgraded "BP" sears of heater/control system that can be connected with an additional module, and this would be about a $400 replacement plus the wifi module for $300). - The insulation in the pump/motor area could have been better; I somewhat worried about that area in the winter. Also, the 110V cord grip was not fully-installed to the control panel when it arrived. - The cover clips flimsy, which others have mentioned. There was a comment or two in the reviews about the surface being somewhat rough, but we found this spa to be perfect; just enough surface variation to be non-slip, but not uncomfortable. We also purchased a step through Amazon which matched quite well and fit the round contour of this tub (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00480FSSW/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_FpEKDbGK5MSR7). All in all, the cons are minor or correctable, and would knock off maybe a small fractional star if that was possible. After a week of use, we upgraded this spa to the 220V option before winter and it can raise the temperature a few degrees in what seems like mere moments. We may also upgrade to a UV/Ozone sterilizer in the future. However, the main body of the review was based on using the 110V plug and play option, and honestly that would be adequate for most installations that don't get harsh winters. Finally, I will be responding to an offer from the manufacturer to receive 2 filters in exchange for leaving a review. +++++ Update after 6 months of use. This thing is an amazing value, something reinforced over 6 months of use. On the 220V set-up, a complete empty/fill cycle took about 8 hours to go from 59 degrees to 104. Ours is outside in the elements and one of our clips broke in the winter when ice covered (the water condenses on the cover and runs down the side a bit), and we replaced that with a carabiner. The cover has held up well, and the outside material has not faded or worn. We do keep our unit tarped when not in use during the week. Family consensus is that this is some of the best money we've spent. Strong Spas has a good selection of parts available and fast/friendly customer service; I did order a warranty replacement of the faulty keypad which they shipped out with no trouble. ... show more

  • Good but for the price paid it could be better
This is my first hot tub, and after many hours of research I committed to buying this model. Tub came quicker than promised, easy enoung to move in place by two men. It worked well and we spent several nights using it by now. Overall I am satisfied but annoyed by little things that could have bene easily eliminated. I have recommendations to the manufacturer how to make it better. Please spend extra $20 and a couple of hours once, and solve these small issues, which amazes me exist in the first place. You do not have to be a rocket scientist or an advanced engineer to realize these. - Surface is rough by design, but I wish I'd use fine sand paper on the seats, they are a bit too rough on the skin, mentioned by multiple people. I will have to wait for the next refill to do that sanding. - Access door is held by a lock that does not close it firmly, the door is somewhat bent differently from the contour of the tub and has an unsightly 1-inch gap right in the front most visible place. - Control panel is very small and cheap-looking and outdated. My $20 toaster oven came with better screen and higher quality buttons than this product 100x the cost. LCD temp panel is hard to see from the side. Buttons are hard to press and probably will not last many years. LED lighting - you press and the light comes up a couple of seconds later (why such delay in 21st century?). Most users press, no light, and press again because of this delay, and end up pressing LED button many times just to get the light turned on. Status lights in yellow shades are confusing. Whole control panel has no watertight seal under it so water from splashes and wet hands drips into inner cavity. - Manual has good content overall, but is like a home printout and does not match the exact model, generic to all models. Again, my toaster came with a better manual, so forgive my expectations on a luxury product. - The filter cavity is twice the size of the actual filter, feels like wasted space. I wish filter could be more hidden than just being in the front open part. - Drain holes on the bottom have these two black unsightly nets on them. Many users already hit their feet against them because they are in a small already walking area. No reason to have such large and intrusive nets on drains. Also drains are a couple of inches from the bottom, so will not drain completely. This is a good product, but maybe not from 21st century where luxurious products and easy access to good materials and designs and electronics set expectations higher than past century. ... show more
