First off, I want to say that I am a finger player, I play in tunings from E standard to B standard but D standard mostly. I do not use a pick (may matter to the pick players considering these strings) and I have been playing bass for about 8 or 9 years and have tried a great variety of strings out there. D'addarios, GHS, DR, Rotosound, Dean Markley, so on and so forth. When I first started playing bass I wanted to try out a lot of strings just to find the perfect sound for me. I am a metal bass player mainly. I also play classic rock, blues, whatever. ANYWAYS, I recently bought a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 bass. It came loaded with regular slinkys and I was super impressed. Before then I was a DR guy. They had awesome tone but didn't last as long as I needed. So I bought another pair of regular slinkys. Then I was starting to realize I wasn't getting a punchy high end on the regs. Also the "E" string was just a tad too.. I guess loose would be the word. You would think that the regulars would have a 105 on the "E" string but they have a 100.. weird. So I upped to these strings and wow did it make a huge bit of difference. Nice punch through crisp high strings and a nice fat warm crisp on the low. Not too bright, not too dull. They are incredibly cheap and they last a long time. I don't need to pop them in and out every month or 2. They sound good to me with any type of music. Hope this helps. Thanks for reading. ... show more

Man these are some fun strings! I mean it's only a few bucks to mess around with such a fat sound. If you are not having fun you can always go back to your old strings and you are only out a few bucks. These have all the tension of a deep dark beast, but they still bend. They are indeed slinky. The have held up to tuning after I tuned them initially once or twice. They look great especially that chunky wound E, I played flat strings for a long time. These look heavier and fatter but they do play slinky. With clean bright highs and with moody punchy lows. ... show more

Fat and fantastic. I just have a 32" scale 5 string, so there was a lot of excess. The sound is good, the feel is right, and they sustain much better than what I had on my shorter scale. Highly recommend these strings and would have a hard time buying anything else.

Sounded great. I have a 4 string PJ bass by Jackson, the strings were easy to install and sounded great. the first few tunes sounded kinda strange because i wasnt used to this thickness and i think it took a while to stay in tune, but after use these sound great and stay in tune for days. (As for the photos yes I know i tuned the top and bottom string backwards) ... show more

After paying far too much at local music shops for electric bass strings, I thought I'd give Amazon a try. I'm also a dedicated Rotosound fan and have used their heavy gauge roundwounds for years. Considering I'm on a tight budget and I liked the gauge of this set, I decided to give some Ernie Ball strings a try. So far I've been pleased. They've got a nice heavy sound that I like and feel like quality made strings. I've had to re-tune my bass a few times after the strings "settled" in, but otherwise I've been happy with the sound and value and would gladly recommend these strings to any bass player who's on a tight budget but needs good heavy gauge strings. ... show more
