I received this side rails and tried to mount them on a 2014 Ford Escape. The fitting is so bad that there are 1/2 cm gaps between the roof and the rail endings. The dimensional fitting of this rails is simply not acceptable. I even gave it a chance by removing the cover and tried to screw the rail tight in the hope it would probably adjust. No chance. It is too stiff and simply needs to be in the right dimensions. The plastic covers on the end of the rails are of some plastic that is not flexible at all so the only thing that would happen is scratching and damaging your roof.     • I was sent a returned item that is (still) defective, no way to finish installation.

So the final bolt you tighten to finish the installation has an internal locking nut, there are four of these, one for each mounting point. The bad news is that these locking nuts have fallen off of three of the bolts. These are internal and you cannot take the rack apart to reattach them. So no way that I know of to finish installation. Upset at Amazon for sending me a returned item because half of the pieces were assembled by the first sucker who tried to install this item. Then to top it off the seller wants me to pay postage on a defective item return. So cancelled my Prime membership because Amazon will not refund my money and I refuse to send item back to New Jersey. It would cost more to ship it back than it is worth.
