  • Excellent printing and scanning.
Color: Black
I have been using this printer for almost two years. During that time, I have printed about 2500 pages, and scanned about 5000 pages. Almost all my printing has been black & white. I purchased the WF-7620 primarily to print orchestral music, which I print on 13x19" heavy stock. It has done a superb job of that. In scanning, I have been particularly impressed by the paper-handling of the ADF. It has fed paper with slightly wrinkled or curled edges without difficulty. I have not had any problems with paper jams, either in the ADF or in printing. The printer has worked equally well with both Epson and third-party ink cartridges. To be sure, the printer isn't perfect. The user interface of the scanning software (for Mac OS X) leaves something to be desired. And it would be very nice if it could automatically do two-sided printing on 13x19" paper, but it has been only a minor nuisance to manually duplex the large paper, feeding it from one of the cassettes, and then putting the output back into the cassette to print the second side. If the printer died tomorrow, I would consider that I had gotten my money's worth, and I would buy another one. But it shows no signs of dying. ... show more

  • DON'T WAST MONEY ON THIS. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED - see photo of print
Color: Black
Long term use update #2: I followed the instructions from tech "support" and the printing never improved (see attached photo). At this point, if I had been able to bill the time I've wasted attempting to get this thing to print at even a mediocre level, I could have purchased a color laser printer that would print perfectly. Don't waste your money - even if this thin used "free" ink it would be a ripoff and would make your business look bad. Long term use update: I've dropped this to two stars for the following reasons. It began printing sloppy/blurry text more than a year ago. We always use genuine Epson ink. We have been through the clean print heads, adjust print head alignment, etc. routine literally dozens of times. This morning at the instruction of Epson tech support, I ran the print head cleaning routine 4 times. I also ran the vertical alignment routine 14 times with minute "improvements" to the block patterns each time. But it never printed a "clean" block pattern, and the text in every case was blurry. Tech support's concluding tip: let the print heads sit until tomorrow, then run the clean print head routine 3 or 4 more times. If that doesn't fix it, then call us back. Forget about it! In addition we have been unable to print envelopes. The printer sucks them in and spits them out - then prints the address on a blank page from the cassette. Tech support was completely baffled and offered no solutions. Finally, nobody in the office is able to update the software or firmware on the device, despite the Epson software prompting us to do so regularly. When we follow the prompts it says that there is no connection to the printer - despite being connected to the printer. Again, tech support had no answers. I gave a 2 star rating because the scan and fax functionality is really quite good. It gives the option to receive faxes and scans directly to your desktop. However even this leaves something to be desired since there seems to be no way to actually save the various settings we use. So we're stuck having to input file type, destination, scan quality, etc each time we use it. I unboxed the well packaged unit without drama. The first step upon powering up is to set location, date, time, etc. The second step has you insert the ink cartridges and close the top for some kind of initialization. After 10-15 seconds of typical printer noise there came a brief, loud grinding sound - like that of small plastic gear teeth spinning against a jamb of some sort - followed by a chime and an error screen instructing me to power down and power back up. I followed the instructions and got the same grinding and error. A call to tech support was very quickly answered - no time on hold at all. The rep spoke heavily accented English but was otherwise easy to understand, if not well informed. We went through the "unplug for 20 seconds" dance and came up with the same problem. Then he had me open up the unit to manually slide the cartridge carrier to the middle, but there was something blocking the path. After putting me on hold for a few minutes, he came back and said that I had two options - but that both involved sending the unit back as the result of a hardware failure. After hanging up, I jiggled the carrier a bit and managed to get it to pass the obstacle, so I thought perhaps I was in the clear. I powered up, went through the setup dialogue for like the 7th time, and this time it told me there was a paper jam. Mind you, this all happened during initial setup - before the step where you put in paper. I checked the likely places to find no paper nor missed packaging or tape. I pressed the button to indicate that the jam had been cleared, but got the same screen again. So I restarted again, went through the setup screens, and got the same error I had after my first attempt - this time without the gear grinding noise. This unit goes back. I might try a replacement - I haven't decided. VERY DISAPPOINTED. UPDATE 7/7 - Rather than dealing with Epson, I contacted Amazon about a return. They sent out a replacement printer before I even had a chance to box up the old one. UPS delivered the unit 2 days later, and they picked up the defective printer at the same time. KUDOS Amazon! Now that I have a working printer, I am upping my rating to 5 stars. Setup was easy as pie - once on the wifi network, other users found the printer easily. The large touch screen works flawlessly. Scanning and faxing over the network are easy. The unit is quite fast, and really quiet compared to other stuff around the office. The printouts are true to the advertisements in that they seem water stable and resistant to smearing under highlighters. I can't speak to ink usage yet, but otherwise I can say that I am very pleased with the purchase and would encourage friends to buy one if they were in the market. ... show more

  • WOW! BY FAR THE BEST PRINTER I HAVE EVER USED.
Color: Black
It is my experienced opinion that you cannot go wrong purchasing this printer. I am not an expert but I have set up many printers, etc., in my day, so do have experience. I received my printer today and, apart from some packaging issues, doing initial setup as well as connecting to WI-FI went smoothly and successfully. I have printed a few photos and the quality of the photos are awesome, clear, sharp, great color. It was really nice to be able to load photo paper in paper cassette one and load letter size paper in cassette two, rather than taking out the cassette and switching back and forth from photo paper to letter size paper. I was concerned when it came time to set up and test the scanner feature as I have had issues in the past with scanner errors, but I encountered no problems. I have scanned both by using the printer touchscreen and by using the scanner application on my laptop and encountered no problems with either method. I really like the automatic document feeder and was able to place 15 pages to be scanned and it went off without a hitch. I printed a few copies by placing document in automatic document feeder and using the options on the printer touchscreen and it went off without a hitch. Printing a document worked just fine. I just printed a document complete with a photo. It was just on regular paper and it was fine although not as colorful as I would have liked, but this was just regular, run of the mill paper. I will try it using the Epson Bright-White paper but not tonight. I like the fact that you have an option for standard, standard-vivid, then high quality printing, and even option for more settings. The only source of disappointment is that, even though you can download the complete user manual, it would be nice if they would include more detailed instructions about set up and install of ink cartridges in the box. Or at least include the user manual on the DVD installation software. ... show more
